Forge World Ork Halftrakk

January 2008 saw the release of the new Ork Trukk. I had expected to see some Forge World conversion kits relatively quickly, however though we saw the Flakk Wagon at GamesDay 2008, it wasn’t until July 2009 that we saw the first actual Forge World variant Ork Trukk kit, the Ork Half Trakk.

So this is what you get in the box, a complete shrink wrapped plastic Trukk kit and a bag of resin.

As you might expect the resin consists of the wheels, tracks and wheels for the tracks. There is also a new engine which replaces the plastic one included with the kit.

Here is a photo of all the resin pieces.

One problem though (and you can see this above) is that I only had a single rear sprocket.

The left one was missing…. A quick phone call to Forge World and a few days later the missing left sprocket had arrived. I have had virtually no issues with Forge World models in the past and this was the first missing part I had in any of the models I had made up to now.

Sanding the Blastscape

Having been slightly disappointed with the quality of the Blastscape scenery, I decided that I would try and improve on the models by adding some texture and scenic items.

Using PVA (white glue) and GW sand I flocked the edges. I also added some GW slate to some of the pieces.

Skyshield Landing Pad

The Skyshield Landing Pad is a very nice piece of scenery for Warhammer 40,000.

Landing pads are launch bases used by flight-capable craft to unload or evacuate troops and vital personnel. The Skyshield landing pad used by the Imperial Navy, though originally purpose-built to accommodate Valkyrie and Vendetta gunships, is robust enough to serve even the Thunderhawks of the Adeptus Astartes, and has field generators that protect the craft and its crew from incoming fire.

A plastic kit, it contains four lots of two sprues. This is the landing pad and side walls.

This is one of the four legs.

This is a very clever piece of design. Reminiscent of the first Land Raider and Rhino.

So the first stage is to stick this altogether.

Blastscape

It came in a plastic bag! They are vac formed plastic.

When I saw this product for Apocalypse on the Games Workshop website, it looked really good.

So I thought I would get a pack.

Alas the original image on the website was of some resin masters, the vac formed final product was nothing like what we saw in the previews. Though GW did revise the product image to what you actually got rather than using resin masters.

It was a pity really that they didn’t make resin versions (like the Urban Barricades and Ork Barricades). Having said all that, they were a splash release and are now no longer available to buy.

They came in a plastic bag.

Ork Stompa Head

This is of course only part of the main weapon arm, there is the main weapon and rokkits that will be attached to the whole structure.

The model does go together quite easily. However unless you let it dry properly, you can find that if the glue has not set then the model falls to bits in your hands. This has happened with previous plastic kits, so I was very careful with this one. However as there are so many parts, you can leave one bit to dry and start on the next sub-assembly.
