The Legion Imperialis Spartan Assault Tanks will be going on pre-order this Saturday.
Spartan Assault tanks are massive armoured conveyors built to carry infantry across treacherous battlefields, and they join Legions Imperialis as the first Transport Detachment that can carry Terminator squads. This plastic kit contains four Spartans with options for sponson-mounted quad lascannons or laser destroyer arrays.
These are nice looking models.
I have been thinking about getting some miniatures for Legions Imperialis since it was released. So was pleased to get the Legions Imperialis: Rhino Transport boxed set for Christmas.
The Rhino is the most widely used armoured personnel carrier in the Imperium. Based upon ancient STC technology, the fundamental design is robust, reliable, and easy to maintain, with an adaptive power plant that can run off a wide variety of fuels. Within the Space Marine Legions, the Deimos pattern was the most widespread, serving as the basic armoured transport available to the Legiones Astartes and the foundation on which a number of other war machines were based.
In the box you get two sprues that can be used to construct ten models.
This was the first time I had seen these models in the flesh. They are smaller than I thought they were going to be, but are (obviously) bigger than the older original Epic miniatures. However I thought they would be larger than they are.
I like how the box has come with transfers covering the many legions of Legions Imperialis.
When it comes to painting models, I do like to see how others have been painted. These are the images from Games Workshop.
I am thinking I will paint these as Imperial Fists.
The first stage will be constructing the models. Unlike the older Epic models, which were a single casting, these are multi-part kits.
We finally got the announcement that Legion Imperalis is on its way.
Next week there will be a two week pre-order window for Legion Imperalis.
It also looks like there will be a wealth of releases. As well as the boxed set there appears there will be a range of models, accessories, scenery and other stuff all released at the same time.
A quick Google search shows that the boxed set will have a RRP of £120. The pack of ten Rhino APCs will be £30.
Don’t quite know what I will pre-order at this point.
Over on the Warhammer Community site they have showcased Legions Imperialis miniatures painted by community painters.
One force caught my eye, and it was a Solar Auxilia force painted by Gadge.
Legions Imperialis models are incredibly detailed despite being in epic scale, so it’s really important not to lose this detail with overly thick paint or too many layers. Drybrushing and Contrast paints are the key to this ‘sand and spinach’ scheme that will look good on both desert and temperate battlefields. I started off with a base coat of Zandri Dust Spray undercoat, which was drybrushed up with Flayed One Flesh, where the tonal difference helps pick out every hatch and rivet. To avoid swamping the model with excessive paint, I used Creed Camo Contrast paint to apply the camouflage bands and blotches, as the translucent quality of Contrast paint allows the existing highlights on the base coat to surface. Other parts were painted variously with Black Legion, Blue Horror, and Evil Sunz Scarlet, before being outlined lightly with Agrax Earthshade. Lastly, I applied weathering by giving the tracks a light drybrush with Terminatus Stone, before dipping a brush in Ratling Grime, wiping most of it off, and dabbing it all over any areas where I felt the tanks would be either well-oiled or getting in contact with a lot of grime – the vents, grills, gun barrels, and wheels.
I did like the scheme and it reminded me of the Aeronautica Imperialis Valkyrie Assault Carriers that I painted.
I think I might use the same scheme and process on any Legions Imperialis Solar Auxilia I get.

We have seen a preview of the forthcoming Legion Imperialis Land Raiders.
These look really nice and looking forward to getting some to paint.
I actually thought we had seen these already. I suspect that might be more down to the fact that when Space Marine and Epic 40000 were released the Land Raider was in those initial releases. Looking back at the (delayed) forthcoming Legions Imperialis boxed set, I see and realise now, that Land Raiders are not part of that set.
So will we see a Typhon Heavy Siege Tank as well now?
On the Warhammer Community website there is a page spread from the next issue of White Dwarf which shows the forces for the Legion Imperialis battle report.
Looks a little crowded to me.
I am looking forward to seeing the battle report.
In the next issue of White Dwarf there will be an early battle report for Legions Imperialis.

Now what does this tell us about the release date for Legions Imperialis? Well, not anything concrete, but I wonder if this means we might see Legions Imperialis before November? If not then in November?
Over on the Warhammer Community website we have seen a preview of some Drop Pods for Legion Imperialis.
The Legiones Astartes utilise a number of methods of deployment into hostile war zones – but none are more iconic than the Drop Pod assault. Each pod is a self-contained orbital descent capsule, launched from a spacecraft and searing through a planet’s atmosphere before retro jets fire to slow its descent just enough not to be obliterated upon impact with the surface. Upon landing, a deadly cargo of Space Marines charges directly into the heart of battle.
Though not entirely clear from the article, I think these are in fact plastic models.
There is also the intriguing final comment…
They’ll be available – much like Legions Imperialis itself – sooner than you think!
Seeing the previews of the new Legions Imperialis Artillery models over on the Warhammer Community site made me realise how much I preferred the older versions of the Medusa and the Basilisk.
Though the Horus Heresy versions have been available from Forge World, and these are detailed models, I am not a fan.
The initial plan was that Legions Imperialis would be released in August. However the most recent post on the Warhammer Community site, as mentioned on this blog, was that the release will be delayed until later in the year.
Why was there a delay? Well as you might have guessed the internet is rife with rumours.
One of the strongest of the Internet rumours is that the rulebook needed to be reprinted due to an inappropriate quote. Though we don’t really know the details it probably was a paraphrased quote from World War Two.
Other rumours talk about warehouse and computing problems. There is also speculation that there are shipping delays.
Of course we will probably never know the truth.
Still looking forward to getting my copy of Legions Imperialis.
