Advance upon the enemy…

One of the games I enjoyed a lot at GamesDay 2007 was Aly Morrison and Dave Andrew’s excellent World War One demonstration game.

German forces complete with a captured British Mk IV Tank in German colours and soldiers armed with flamethrowers, move forward.

Advance upon the enemy…

You can see many more pictures of the game on my website.

Ork Fighter Bomma in action

I have been working on my Ork Fighter Bomma for years now.

Though not finished (in the sense can any model be finished), it was in my mind in a state ready for the gaming table.

At a recent game it took to the table.

We used the Apocalypse rules for it and I was well impressed with its performance.

Less impressed with its performance in the second game, when dropping its bombs it took out my Orks and not the enemy Imperial Guard!

Using the new  Apocalypse bombing template (the one that consists of five circles) was an interesting experience and the rules certainly worked for me (even when they didn’t work in my favour).

Looks like Simon will need to get some kind of anti-aircraft defence.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Tonight I was lucky enough to (eventually) go and see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Though I know a lot of people were disappointed and some reviews were bad, I really enjoyed it.

I am guessing that as a result of the reactions and reviews I had lower expectations than those cinema-goers who went in the week of release and had really high expectations.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Was it perfect?

Well no, but I liked it, I liked the nod to the previous fims (ie Marcus) and even the Young Indiana Jones’ Chronicles.

As for “nuke the fridge”, I am afraid I do agree with the internet community sentiment on that.

From a gaming perspective, lots of wonderful ideas. I do like the idea of using Soviets as the bad guys.

I am already working on and planning an Area 51 scenario as a result of that scene in the film.

Black Templar Cenobyte with Relic

I have always liked this model, but wasn’t sure a) where it came from, b) what it was called, so I could never find it in the stores or on the online store.

It was only recently when reading through an old White Dwarf that I saw it was part of the Black Templars Chaplain Grimaldus and Retinue Boxed Set.

So now I knew which boxed set it came from, I could work out what it was called and find it in the online store. It is available either as part of a boxed set or individually. As I wasn’t too bothered about the other miniatures in the boxed set I purchased it individually through Mail Order.

I will be using it as part of my Inquisitorial retinue.

Having cleaned the model I based it with GW modelling sand.

See the full workbench feature on the Black Templar Cenobyte with Relic.

Epic Imperial Guard Manticore

I have always liked the (Epic 40,000) Imperial Guard Manticore model. It is something about those large missiles which makes this look like an artillery piece which means business.

I was always disappointed as a result with the Forgeworld version which looks less like an artillery piece and more like an anti-aircraft weapon or a much lighter artillery piece.

Thinking about it, I wonder if I could (or should) build a 40K scale version?

Model from Felix’s collection, see more Epic artillery.

Apocalypse Reload

Normally when Games Workshop release a supplement, they release a bundle of stuff over two or three months, then ignore it for ages until they re-release it or ignore it for ever!

Remember Cityfight and Cities of Death?

What about Armageddon?

Well it appears that Apocalypse is somewhat different.

There was the usual two or three months of new releases last September – remember the BaneBlade!

However with the release of fifth edition of Warhammer 40,000, Games Workshop are publishing a new Apocalypse book, Apocalypse Reload.

This doesn’t appear to be a new version of the old book for the new version of Warhammer 40K, but a supplement to the original Apocalypse rulebook.

Check the blurb from the Games Workshop website.

Apocalypse Reload is a supplement to the hugely popular Apocalypse book, crammed full of more than 50 exciting new datasheets, new strategic assests specific to each Warhammer 40,000 army, and an Apocalypse battle report that has to be seen to be believed!

Well I am not sure if it is that good it “has to be seen to be believed” but I think I may be getting a copy.
