Blucher Class Dreadnought

Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher was a famous Prussian Generalfeldmarschall (Field Marshall) who was known for his rather direct military tactics. ‘On it like Blucher‘ is a term synonymous in the Prussian military for taking the fight to the enemy. The designers behind this Dreadnought certainly took this to heart. FOUR powerful Primary turrets rain death on enemy targets and row after row of Tesla Coils rip into enemy vessels.

Here is my finished model.

When painting a model I often refer to other finished versions for ideas and inspiration.

This is how the Blucher Class Dreadnought looks from the marketing material.

The model itself comes in a quite a large blister pack.

This is a very clean casting and the computer aided design certainly shows in the detail of the model.

I gave the model a wash in soapy water in order to remove any release agent remaining on the model.

I then glued the metal turrets to the model.

I gave the model a white undercoat.

At some point the rear guns got bent, so I had to bend them back.

The next stage was a grey basecoat.

I used a Tamiya acrylic and had my usual problem, exaggerated by bad light, in the paint not covering the whole model. I find the paint rather thick and it doesn’t thin well compared to GW paints. So it will probably need some touching up, before I start adding detailing to the model through a drybrush and then adding the decking.

I painted the decks with Vallejo Tan Yellow (912).

The next question I needed to ask, was did I add any bronze or copper elements to the model? Or do I keep it more traditional naval in colour and appearance?

The next stage was to give the decks a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade.

The next stage was to give the rest of the model and hull a wash of Citadel Shade: Nuln Oil.

I am still astounded by the amount of detail on these models. This photograph is covering an area of about half an inch across.

I then gave the model a drybrush.

Here is the Prussian Empire Blucher Class Dreadnought along with two Arminius Class Frigates.

At this point I am happy with the ship as is, and is certainly useable in games.

I do want to add some markings and I might add some more details, but will first try and get some more models painted first.
