Detailing the Stormtroopers

One part of any model which takes it from a painted model to a gaming masterpiece is the details.

Having taken my Inquisitorial Stormtroopers through the wash and then a drybrush, the next stage was the details. For example painting the muzzle of the hellguns in black. I painted the helmet visors in light blue and highlighted in white.

Details on this model includes the head of the sergeant (he’s the only model not wearing a helmet).

Detailing the Stormtroopers

Then there are the Heavy Weapon troopers.

Lots of nice detail on the rear of these models. I used Bleached Bone for the eagle symbols.

Overall making the unit looking better and better.

Another view.

The fifth Indiana Jones movie….

Last night I watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on the BBC and really enjoyed it. Why I watched it on the TV when I have it on DVD is a different question!

This week sees the launch of the fourth instalment in cinemas, nearly twenty years after the Last Crusade hit the screen. I am hoping to get to see it, though I don’t go to the cinema as much as a I use to.

According to the BBC this instalment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, may not be the last.

Steven Spielberg has said he is happy to make another Indiana Jones movie if fans enjoy the long-awaited fourth film, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

There is a possibility then that there may be a fifth (or even a sixth) instalment.

I have enjoyed the first three Indiana Jones’ movies and even at one time contemplated writing a series of rules which were inspired by the films.

Not Indiana Jones…

With the new film, I may revisit the rules and see if I can put them on the web. In the meantime have a look at some pictures.

Forge World Newsletter #194

News of the big new Titan.

Hi There,
The great announcement this Newsletter is the arrival of the mighty Reaver Titan for pre-order. Much anticipated since we first showed a prototype of the model back at Games Day UK last year, this huge model kit is now finished and available to order. It’s caused quite a stir while previewed at our recent events, having garnered lots of excited interest (and its fair share of “ooos” and “aaahs,”) and here it is at last for everyone to see in full!
Thanks
Alan Bligh

Reaver Titan

The Mars Pattern Reaver Titan

The long awaited Reaver, designed by Will Hayes, is a fantastic model which is not only impressively huge, it`s also highly detailed, and comes complete with a full set of crew and a numbered certificate. You can find plenty of pictures of this extraordinary model, including interior detail shots Here on our website, with two examples painted in the colours of the Warp Runners by Phil Stutchinskas and the War Griffons Legion by Stuart Witter.

This huge model is a veritable goliath of the battlefield weighing in at well over twice the weight of a Warhound Titan, and standing at 400mm (approx) 16” high and 255mm (approx) 10” from shoulder to shoulder!

As well as being a truly imposing presence on the battlefield, it is, as you would expect from a Battle Titan, a terrifying opponent in gaming terms, and you can find experimental trial rules for the Titan for your Apocalypse games here. With lots of firepower and great durability thanks to its structure points and void shields, we’ve had it taking on multiple Scout Titans during play test and wiping the floor with slews of lesser super heavies! As well as dominating the tabletop, the Reaver would also make a stunning display model for collectors and a great painting project for hobbyists and gamers alike.

Ordering
The Reaver Titan is available in three weapons combinations, each features the carapace mounted Apocalypse Missile Launcher, and it is available either with a Gatling Blaster and Turbo Laser Blaster, or with two Gatling Blasters or two Turbo Laser Blasters.
The Reaver Titan is available to pre order now with shipping from the 26th of May. However if you want a Reaver as soon as possible, we recommend you order soon, as we will only be making a few of these large and complex models each week.

New Catalogue

In the next few days Forge World will be releasing its new 2008 catalogue. If you would like a copy of the catalogue (which is free regardless of wherever you are in the world), please get in touch with us at our catalogue request email address at forgeworldcatreq@games-workshop.co.uk or give a ring and we’ll take your address details and get you one sent out.

Games Baltimore and Canada

Forge World will also be attending both Games Day Baltimore in the US on the 14th of June and Games Day Canada in Toronto on the 21st of June, and as usual, you will be able to place reservation orders with us to pick up and pay for at the event. Owing to ongoing demand for our models, we may not be able to take a full range of stock to these events, so if you would like to place a reservation order, please get the details to us as soon as possible, as the earlier you do so, the better your chances are of getting exactly what you are after on the day! Also, we are hoping to have a few Reaver Titans for sale at these events, but if you are definitely after one, we recommend you to place a reservation for it.

The final deadline for reservations for Games Day Baltimore is the 26th of May, and for Games Day Canada the 2nd of June.

Ork Aircraft Traktor

One of the Forgeworld models I have always liked is the Ork Aircraft Traktor and Launch Trolley. Ideal to go with my Ork Bommer.

Sadly this is now no longer available, so when stocks were running low (back in 2006) I bought one.

The model consists of the plastic Wartrakk and some resin pieces.

Having put the model together I gave it a white undercoat.

Having re-looked at the model I decided that I wanted the dirty rusty metal look I had given some of my other Ork vehicles, so I gave the model a black undercoat.

This was then initially given a drybrush of Tin Bitz.

The other side.

You can see the full workbench feature on the Traktor.

Dwarf Stronghold

One of the things I like about GamesDay is the fantastic demonstration and participation games

This beautifully made Dwarf Stronghold was part of a display game at GamesDay 2006.

Dwarf Stronghold

Some wonderful modelling work had gone into it.

I liked the details and the features such as the armoured cannon turrets.

Ruins

One of the games I enjoyed a lot at GamesDay 2007 was Aly Morrison and Dave Andrews’ excellent World War One demonstration game.

There was some fantastic scenery such as this ruined house.

It was all the little details that made the game for me such the wonderful details. Such as the wallpaper and the fireplace inside the ruined building.

Great War British Infantry

Excellent stuff.

You can see many more pictures of the game on my website.

Ork Wartrakk Rider Conversion (again)

Having drybrushed the other of my Wartrakks I knew that I shouldn’t forget the crew.

The Gorkamorka era plastic Wartrakk does come supplied with an Ork crew. However these are Gorkamorka styled Orks and don’t really fit in with the models we have been using for some years now and certainly don’t fit in with the models that recently came out.

I decided that I would also convert a driver using spare parts from the Ork Boyz sprue in the same manner as my other Wartrakk.

I sliced and flattened the bottom of a new torso so would fit on the legs of the Wartrakk rider and I also used one of the supplied arms as well. For the other arm I used a handweapon from the Boyz sprue.

As a result I now have another Wartrakk rider which fits in with my other Orks.

See the full workbench feature on this Wartrakk.
