Arvus Lighter

Various Arvus Lighter models were on display at Warhammer World.

The Arvus Lighter is a small, general purpose cargo shuttle that is widely used by the Imperium of Man for many tasks, both in space and on the surface of planets. The Arvus is commonly used by both Imperial Navy warships and Imperial merchant vessels, including Rogue Traders.

This Arvus Lighter was part of a Necromunda diorama.

The Arvus is just one of many types of small, void-capable shuttles used by the Imperium. The Arvus is piloted by a single pilot, and is not equipped with any weapon systems, in fact, the Arvus possesses only the most basic navigation equipment, external sensors, and proximity alarms.

The Arvus has a powerful engine that allows it to carry heavy cargo to and from a planet’s surface.

Red Scorpions Land Raider

This Red Scorpions Land Raider with reinforced armour was on display at Warhammer World.

The Land Raider is an Imperial main battle tank and troop transport which serves as the “armoured fist of the Space Marines.” Available to the Space Marines, the Traitor Legions of the Chaos Space Marines and the forces of the Inquisition and Adeptus Mechanicus, it is one of the most resilient and iconic armoured vehicles in the galaxy.

Imperial Guard Hellhammer

The Hellhammer is a super-heavy tank of the Astra Militarum that is a variant of the infamous Baneblade tank. The Hellhammer replaces the rocket-assisted Mega Battle Cannon or Baneblade Cannon of the Baneblade with a Hellhammer Cannon, a variation of the Battle Cannon commonly found on the Leman Russ main battle tank.

It has a shorter barrel with special heavy-gauge suppressors built into it that allows it to fire extremely high-calibre shells without ripping itself apart. These shells are designed to destroy armour and emplacements with an unstable sub-atomic charge.

Imperial Guard Baneblade

This Imperial Guard Baneblade super heavy tank was on display at Warhammer World. It was from Damien Pedley’s collection.

The Baneblade super heavy tank is the standard super heavy for the Imperial Guard. It’s huge and the design is one of the oldest in service with the armed forces of the Imperium. It is one of the Standard Template Construct (STC) designs that ensures that  Forge Worlds across the galaxy are able to easily manufacture the tanks to a consistent design.  The size means a large crew, ten in all. They are often used as command vehicles by Imperial Guard commanders.

With a range of armaments, a Baneblade is less of a tank and more of a tracked fortress. An unmistakable icon of the Imperium’s armoured supremacy, a single one of these super-heavy war engines can serve as the mailed fist of an Imperial Guard offensive, or as the unassailable lynchpin of even the most desperate of defences.

This Tallarn Desert Raiders Baneblade, from the ‘Eavy Metal team,  was also on display at Warhammer World.

Another Baneblade painted by the Games Workshop team, was also at Warhammer World.

The Baneblade was originally an Epic design, but was then available as a modelling project in White Dwarf. Forge World produced a resin version for many years. In 2007 a plastic version of the tank was made available. We shouldn’t forget the 1/6th scale version that Forge World showcased at Games Day 2006.

Initially I wasn’t a fan, I thought it was too big, but over the years I have come to like the concept. Will I buy the model? Well I might.

Macharius Vulcan Heavy Tank

An Imperial Macharius Vulcan Heavy Tank armed with a Vulcan Mega Bolter, Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber and two weapon sponsons.

The Vulcan variant of the Macharius Heavy Tank sacrifices much of the anti-armour capabilities of the Vanquisher variant for the ferocious anti-infantry firepower of the Vulcan Mega-Bolter, normally carried by Warhound-class Titans and commonly fielded to provide cover for other super-heavy tanks and suppress enemy heavy weapon positions with a devastating storm of shot and shell.

From Damien Pedley’s collection on display at Warhammer World.

My original thoughts on the model when it was released back in 2007. This is one of my favourite models, and is probably at the top of the list of wanted models. As I write this, it is temporarily out of stock. I think on my next visit to Warhammer World I might treat myself to the kit.

Gorkanaut and Morkanaut

These Gorkanaut and Morkanaut models were on display at Warhammer World.

The Gorkanaut possesses all the unsubtle brutality of Gork along with a blocky silhouette that looms menacingly over friend and foe alike. Piloted by an Ork Nob, this hulking orkoid armoured war suit is the epitome of everything an Ork aspires to be: Massive, tough, loud and destructive. The Gorkanaut’s main weapons are the deafening and deadly Deffstorm mega-shoota and the massive armoured Klaw of Gork (or possibly Mork). It is also armed with two twin-linked big shootas, two rokkit launchas and a skorcha.

The Morkanaut’s main weapon is a profusion of worky gubbinz and zappy bits known as the kustom mega-kannon. It is also armed with two twin-linked big shootas, two rokkit launchas, a kustom mega-blasta and the Klaw of Gork (or possibly Mork).

Still not entirely confident about the differences between the two, but I think that’s the point.

I have considered buying one of these for my Ork forces, but it has so far remained on that long shopping list of wants.

Sagitaur ATV

The Sagitaur is a nimble, heavily armoured ATV engineered for rapid deployment into hostile environments. Designed to accompany Hernkyn Pioneers, it excels in scouting and swift, armoured assaults.

Its robust frame, capable of withstanding the rigours of alien terrain and intense combat, makes the Sagitaur an invaluable asset for any League-sponsored colonisation effort.

This versatile vehicle is equally at home surveying uncharted worlds or leading the charge against enemy forces.

Hekaton Land Fortress

The Hekaton Land Fortress is the Leagues of Votann’s armored titan. A heavily armed transport capable of carrying 12 models, it’s a versatile and potent force on the battlefield.

This is the kind of styling and look that I was hoping we would see with the Cargo-8 Ridgehauler, alas we didn’t.

Now though I would be happy to use these as a Squat, sorry Leagues of Votann, vehicle, I wonder how it compares to human sized models to be used slightly differently. Always difficult to gauge the size of a model from a photograph and no comparative models next to it. So it was nice to see it in the flesh at Warhammer World.

Another view.

There were various versions with different paint jobs, on show at Warhammer World.

Built for both overwhelming firepower and troop transport, this tank is a cornerstone of the Kin’s military might.

With its robust frame capable of carrying up to 12 models, and equipped with a fearsome array of heavy weaponry, the Hekaton is a versatile model on the battlefield.

A testament to the Kin’s engineering prowess, this formidable vehicle is as respected as it is deadly.

Ork Battlewagon

These Ork Battlewagons were from the displays at Warhammer World.

A Battlewagon is a catch-all term used for any type of Ork assault tank and heavy armoured troop transport. The term Battlewagon seems to refer overall to a category of large Ork armoured vehicles. A Battlewagon can be wheeled, tracked or a combination of the two and is used in many battlefield roles. It always carries a large complement of weapons.

Sometimes these armaments are just Big Shootas, while on other vehicles they are large Killkannons. Battlewagons possess thick armour plating, multiple turrets and death rollers or rams. They also carry mobs of Ork Boyz, either internally or clinging onto its many handholds.

See more photographs in the Ork Battlewagon Miniatures Gallery.

I have two Battlewagons on my workbench.

Battlewagon -This plastic battlewagon kit was released by Games Workshop on the 3rd January 2009 and I picked mine up on the 4th January.

Battlewagon with Supa Kannon -I got this model as a Christmas present, it combines the plastic Battlewagon kit with a resin Supa Kannon.

Ork Megatrakk Scrapjet

Various Ork Megatrakk Scrapjet models were on display at Warhammer World.

A favourite amongst Speed Freeks and grounded Flyboyz alike, Megatrakk Scrapjets provide rocket-propelled acceleration, impressive firepower and the hilarity of ramming into enemy lines at the helm of what is effectively a gigantic, thrust-driven drill.

They look like an Ork aircraft fused with wheels and tracks. I’ve always liked the model and the idea behind it. It is such a typical Ork concept.

These vehicles allow former Ork pilots to revel in the dimly-remembered joy of mowing down enemies at point-blank range – a joy which, of course, often caused the Flyboy to crash in the first place.

Explosions blossom amidst the enemy as rokkits and missiles collide with their targets, while Grot tail-gunners blaze away with chattering big shootas – the array of weaponry welded, bolted, riveted and lashed onto a Megatrakk Scrapjet is fearsome.

This Megatrakk Scrapjet was part of the Ork Shanty Town display.

I have a Megatrakk Scrapjet on my workbench. I have struggled to finish it, as it put it altogether before painting it. I think I needed to part-build it and paint it in stages.
