This is a Balrog from a demonstration game at GamesDay 2006.
The Balrog is a mighty creature of great age and power. Awoken by eager Dwarven miners, the Balrog brought destruction to their kingdoms, overwhelming Durin and his doughty warriors in a series of terrible battles. Of all the evil powers in the world, the Balrog is amongst the most terrible and as one of the largest models in The Lord of The Rings game, is the perfect centre piece for an evil army.
One of the interesting displays at GamesDay 2008 were these CAD pictures of current and future models.

Back in September 2009 live from GamesDay I posted an image of the then described Elysian FAV. This was the first peek of something new and exciting. I later posted a larger image.
Well today Forge World announced the release of the FAV, or give it it’s proper name, the Tauros Venator Rapid Strike Vehicle.
New for the Elysians is the Tauros Venator, a six-wheeled rapid strike and scout vehicle. Light, fast and heavily armed, these all terrain attack vehicles are used for rapid reconnaissance and savage lightning raids in support of the drop troop landings. Designed by Will Hayes, with Elysian crewmen by Simon Egan, this full resin model comes with the choice to mount either a twin-linked multi-laser or twin-linked lascannon as well as optional hunter-killer missiles. This is a great model and something genuinely new for the Imperial Guard and Elysian range.
Really like this, and would really like to get a squadron. At £34 they are a little more pricey then I would like, but it is a really nice model.
Space Marine Drop Pod on display at GamesDay 2008.
The Space Marines are known as the Angels of Death, and the title is never more appropriate than when they attack using Drop Pods. Drop Pod assaults are the ultimate weapon of terror and surprise, aimed right at the heart of the foe. Scarcely have the smouldering hulls come to rest when their hatches blow clear, and the occupants disembark to wreak havoc on wrong-footed enemies.
This is a nice model, and Simon has a couple, I have considered getting a few myself. Not sure for what though?
One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. They used various models to make the scenery. In this photograph Forge World have used a plastic Battlewagon to make an Ork “house”.
Also in there is a exhaust pipe from an Ork Stompa.
A very clever piece of modelling.
So why oh why am I posting a photograph of a tractor to this blog?
Good question.
However if you are painting engines or power plants or generators this image can be used to ensure that your engine looks realistic. Look at the rust patterns for example.
One of the things I like in the Forge World range are the Ork Heavy Weapons, not just the new ones, but the older ones as well. I ordered an Ork Kannon some time ago and it had been hanging around for a while, so I decided to stick it together.
It goes together really easily.
Once finished I will be able to use it any of my Ork vehicles or a Squiggoth.
I was lucky enough to get some GW vouchers for Christmas. I had considered getting some more models, but as I am still modelling, painting and storing stuff from last Christmas (and a fair few Christmases before that) decided I probably have enough models to be going on with. Though I did quite like the idea of a Tyranid Trygon!
In the end I decided and luckily they had some in stock to get some of the Imperial Armour books published by Forge World. I already have volumes one and two. Though GW Stores don’t carry the Forge World models, some (well most I have been in) do sell the Forge World Imperial Armour Books, especially the Apocalypse ones. I got the GW staffer to check and as well as the Apocalypse books (which I already have) and the Masterclass Modelling Book (that I already have) they also had the first two Siege of Vraks books; Imperial Armour volumes five and six.
So I got them both.
Both really nice books. Unlike volumes one and two, they have much more narrative and background. I’ve not looked at three and four in detail, but I think they are similar.
I do like these books.
Will I complete the set?
Not sure, but the volume eight is about Orks so I will most certainly get that one.
In September 2009 Forge World announced a range of new Ork vehicles including the splendid Kill Krusha ‘Eavy Tank.
Kill Krushas are a heavy Ork tank design, based around the twin Ork loves of speed and extreme violence. These ‘mirakles’ of Orkish mekboy fabrication are alarmingly complex creations, high-sided and heavily armoured, whose internal spaces are filled with a mass of hydraulics, pistons, mechanised loader-gubbins and a very large and extremely temperamental engines. These are all tended by the frantic ministrations of numerous Grots who keep the rattling monster tank going with constant hammer blows, polishing and judicious application of oiler squigs. The tank’s main gun is its Krusha Kannon; a heavy bore, high velocity weapon capable of firing a variety of different shells. As well as standard explosive rounds, the Krusha Kannon can use armour-piecing ‘Tankhammas,’ shrapnel-filled ‘Scrap Kanisters’ able to rip open swathes of enemy infantry and incendiary ‘Blast Burnas’ which can drench fortifications with burning chemicals to roast alive anyone caught inside.
Back in April at the Forge World Open Day I snapped a few concept images of Ork tanks and these show the design process in producing the Kill Krusha model. I do like the resulting model more so than the concept sketches.
They also give you a few ideas if you want to create a new version of the Kill Krusha or convert the model.
It will be interesting to see if we see any variants on the Kill Krusha

I really like the Mega Dread model, which combined with Killa Kans and Dreadnoughts gives the Orks a variety of walkers that you would expect to find in their forces.
