Kill Bursta – New Forge World Ork Tank

At Dutch Frenzy today, there were some new models on the Forge World stand. As well as the Valkyrie Heavy Lift Variant for the Tauros Venator Rapid Strike Vehicle there was a new Ork tank, that may or may not by called the Kill Bursta.

Based in the same chassis as the already released Kill Krusha it though has a much bigger gun! As it won’t have interior detail, it will also be cheaper than the Kill Krusha.

It looks like it will have a crew.

Very nice, really like it, especially the plow.

Tried out the Mega Dread

Though not finished, after  a quick game today, decided to try out my new Mega Dread on the gaming table.

Quite a tough cookie for my opponent, Simon, who only had ten Marines.

In order to give him a chance, we reduced the rear armour on the Mega Dread from 11 to 10, otherwise those Space Marine Bolters would have no chance of doing any damage. We also allowed all the Marines to be armed with Melta Bombs, likewise they would have no chance of harming the Mega Dread with their “bare hands”. There were two Marines with heavy weapons, one with a missile launcher and one with a flamer.

Apart from not being able to use the Big Shootas on the Mega Dread when using the twin-linked Kill Kannon, it was quite a tough fight. In the end the Marines won out, though not before the Mega Dread managed to take out seven of them.

Forge World Generator

One of the purchases I made from Forge World was the generator which appears to be no longer available from them.

One of the key things you need to do with virtually all Forge World models is to give them a good wash.

When the Forge World models are cast, the mould is given a spray (I guess) of some kind of lubricant to allow the cast model to be released from the mould easily. However the lubricant also acts as a barrier to paint, so as happened with previous models I (and others) have painted is that the paint flecks off.

Washing the model in water with a drop of washing up liquid should remove the lubricant. Avoid using hot water as this could warp the resin (a useful tip if you need to warped resin back to its original shape).

Once washed the model is then ready for painting.

No idea at this time what I am going to use it for. Initial idea was for a Cities of Death stratgem or objective. I did consider Ork’fying it and making it the engine for an Ork vehicle.

Next stage will be a black undercoat.

Balrog

This is a Balrog from a demonstration game at GamesDay 2006.

The Balrog is a mighty creature of great age and power. Awoken by eager Dwarven miners, the Balrog brought destruction to their kingdoms, overwhelming Durin and his doughty warriors in a series of terrible battles. Of all the evil powers in the world, the Balrog is amongst the most terrible and as one of the largest models in The Lord of The Rings game, is the perfect centre piece for an evil army.

Tauros Venator Rapid Strike Vehicle

Back in September 2009 live from GamesDay I posted an image of the then described Elysian FAV. This was the first peek of something new and exciting. I later posted a larger image.

Well today Forge World announced the release of the FAV, or give it it’s proper name, the Tauros Venator Rapid Strike Vehicle.

New for the Elysians is the Tauros Venator, a six-wheeled rapid strike and scout vehicle. Light, fast and heavily armed, these all terrain attack vehicles are used for rapid reconnaissance and savage lightning raids in support of the drop troop landings. Designed by Will Hayes, with Elysian crewmen by Simon Egan, this full resin model comes with the choice to mount either a twin-linked multi-laser or twin-linked lascannon as well as optional hunter-killer missiles. This is a great model and something genuinely new for the Imperial Guard and Elysian range.

Really like this, and would really like to get a squadron. At £34 they are a little more pricey then I would like, but it is a really nice model.

Space Marine Drop Pod

Space Marine Drop Pod on display at GamesDay 2008.

The Space Marines are known as the Angels of Death, and the title is never more appropriate than when they attack using Drop Pods. Drop Pod assaults are the ultimate weapon of terror and surprise, aimed right at the heart of the foe. Scarcely have the smouldering hulls come to rest when their hatches blow clear, and the occupants disembark to wreak havoc on wrong-footed enemies.

This is a nice model, and Simon has a couple, I have considered getting a few myself. Not sure for what though?

Orky House

One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. They used various models to make the scenery. In this photograph Forge World have used a plastic Battlewagon to make an Ork “house”.

Also in there is a exhaust pipe from an Ork Stompa.

A very clever piece of modelling.
