Here comes Merlin

With the (very short) Merlin teaser after the last episode of Doctor Who, the BBC have announced further details about the new series.

Merlin is a thrilling fantasy drama set to enchant family audiences in a brand new 13-part series on BBC One this September.

Every Saturday night audiences are destined to experience a series of magical adventures, as they follow the unlikely friendship of a would-be wizard (Merlin) and the future King (Prince Arthur).

The drama brings together a cast of acclaimed British actors (Richard Wilson as Gaius, Anthony Head as King Uther Pendragon) as well as exciting new faces.
Colin Morgan is the young wizard Merlin, Bradley James is the arrogant but brave Prince Arthur, rising star Angel Coulby is Guinevere and newcomer Katie McGrath is Morgana.

Multi-award-winning actor John Hurt has just been cast as the Voice of the Great Dragon. Enigmatic and powerful, he alone knows Merlin’s true destiny.

Sounds very interesting, and as The Mill are in charge of special effects (they do most of the SFX on Doctor Who) it should look fantastic.

Looking forward to it.

Excellent

I really enjoyed the final episode of Doctor Who last night. A real roller-coaster of an episode with lots in it.

David Tennant is still the Doctor, which seemed to surprise a lot of people including me (even thought it shouldn’t have).

Seems obvious that Mickey and Martha are joining Torchwood from the way in which they jaunted off with Captain Jack.

Christmas seems a long way off for the Christmas special and 2010 seems even further off for season five (though there will be four specials in 2009).
Excellent end to season four.

Final episode of Doctor Who

Really looking forward to the final episode of Doctor Who tonight.
I have spent the week avoiding trailers, news items, websites, conversations and any other way in which I might encounter spoilers.

I am even leaving posting this blog post to virtually the last minute (35 minutes to go at the time of writing) so that I can avoid spoilers.

Not long now…

Russell T Davies is to step down

BBC reports on Doctor Who Executive Producer, Russell T Davies is to step down.

Russell T Davies is to step down as executive producer of Doctor Who, the BBC has announced.

Davies is credited with breathing new life into the show which he brought back to television screens in 2005.

Taking over is the renowned and well respected Steven Moffat.

Bafta-winning writer Steven Moffat will succeed Davies as lead writer and executive producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who.

Moffat said that the whole of his career had been “a secret plan to get this job”.

Steven has written some classic and excellent episodes, including the superb Blink. Makes me thing Doctor Who is in safe hands.

So there will be a fifth season of Doctor Who, the question is will David Tennant still play the Doctor?

The Return of Blake’s Seven

Back in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s alongside Doctor Who the BBC broadcast an excellent sci-fi series called Blake’s Seven.

When it was broadcast I use to watch it and thought it was fantastic.

Blake’s Seven

I have never tried to watch it again now, as I know I will destroy my treasured memories as at the time the sets and effects were fantastic, today they will look horrible, tacky and cheap!

Having said all that I am pleased to hear that there is to be a new series of Blake’s Seven which will be made for Sky.

A new remake of sci-fi series Blake’s 7 could soon return to television screens, Sky One has revealed.

The satellite channel has given the green light for the development of two 60-minute scripts for a “potential event series”.

I am already looking forward to it.

Of course from a gaming perspective, the battles between the rebels and the “evil” Federation are just waiting to be recreated on the table. We also have the starship battles with the infamous Liberator.
