Torchwood

Torchwood Team

Finally managed to find the time to watch all five episodes of Torchwood – Children of Earth, didn’t have the time to watch it “live”.

I really enjoyed watching it, very gripping and a great storyline.

Key question though is where does Torchwood go next?

Is it going to be more like Spooks, where the series is more important than the cast, or is this the end? No more?

Quite tempted to get Torchwood on Blu Ray, though  I ought to get an HD television first…

Torchwood

Tonight sees the return of Torchwood.

Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones return for a brand-new adventure in Torchwood: Children Of Earth, a new five-part series for BBC One.

Unlike previous series, this takes place over the next five nights.

An ordinary day becomes a world of terror as every single child in the world stops. A message is sent to all the governments of Earth: ‘We are coming’. But as a trap closes around Captain Jack, sins of the past are returning, as long-forgotten events from 1965 threaten to reveal an awful truth.

Looking forward to it.

New Doctor Who Assistant

Karen GillanWith a new Doctor next year for the 2010 season, we also now have a new companion too.

Little-known actress Karen Gillan has been unveiled as the next assistant in Doctor Who.

The 21-year-old will star alongside new Time Lord Matt Smith in the new series, to be broadcast next year.

Not too surprising as the current Doctor, David Tennant, no longer has a regular companion.

The 2010 season will in my opinion be the season that makes or breaks Doctor Who. We have a new quite revolutionary Doctor with Matt Smith, a new producer in Steven Moffat and a promise from him that when he runs the place, we won’t see many old characters but will see plenty of “new monsters”. On the plus side, Steven Moffat has written some of the best episodes in the new Doctor Who, but I know for many fans (and importantly parents of those fans) the links with the 1970s/80s series was a key attraction to begin with.

Didn’t we all want the Daleks to come back?

Can the series now stand without the past to support it?

Hopefully more than probably I think.

This just days after it was announced that David Tennant will appear in the Sarah Jane spin off.

David Tennant is to appear as the Time Lord in Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, the BBC has announced.

Tennant, 38, will appear over two episodes of a new 12-part series of the CBBC show, which starts in September.

Russell T Davies, executive producer of The Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who, said it would be a “full on appearance” and “not just a cameo”.

Planet of the Dead

Planet of the Dead

I really enjoyed the Doctor Who special that was on over Easter.

A London bus takes a detour to an alien world, but can the Doctor defeat the terrifying Swarm?

A really good episode with some good characters, an alien world, UNIT and a London bus!

Some good gaming ideas as well, what about UNIT versus the swarm? UNIT now seem to have some cool hardware like this weapons system.

UNIT

Of course they have had the Valiant as well in this series.

Now I just need to find some suitable models.

…and the new Doctor Who is…

And the new Doctor Who is…

Well…

Doctor Who

Matt Smith.

Who?

Exactly.

The eleventh Doctor has been named, and it will be played by 26 year old Matt Smith, pretty much an unknown actor.

Not sure about this. He is younger than Peter Davison, but only by a couple of years.

Well. we’re going to have to wait now until Spring 2010 to see how it works out (and work out it might).

New Doctor Who (to be announced tomorrow)

Doctor Who and Donna Noble by the TARDIS

His replacement – the eleventh Doctor of the TV series – will be revealed in a Doctor Who Confidential programme on BBC One at 1735 on 3 January.

David Tennant quits as Doctor Who

BBC reports that David Tennant is to quit playing Doctor Who.

David Tennant is to stand down as Doctor Who, after becoming one of the most popular Time Lords in the history of the BBC science fiction show.
Tennant stepped into the Tardis in 2005, and will leave the role after four special episodes are broadcast next year.

He made the announcement after winning the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards.

“When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won’t be with me,” he said.

For me, David Tennant was a most excellent Doctor and probably one of the best ever. It will be difficult to fill his shoes.
