Inquisitor Lorr

At the beginning of March 2005 on my (old) blog I mentioned that GW were releasing a limited edition Witch Hunter model that would only be sold in the stores on the 2nd and 3rd April.

Well I didn’t think I was going to get one, but I was on my way over to Simon’s for a game of Space Hulk and stopped off at the GW store and picked one up.

It is a very nice model and is based on the Witch Hunter model that is available in the boxed set, but has a different weapon (plasma pistol) and is pointing rather than holding a sword. Personally I think it is a better model.
Now at the time I thought do I paint it, or do I keep it and sell it on eBay in a few years time (or does everyone do that).

After much thought (well two and a half years) I decided that I would put together the model and paint it. The casting comprises a single casting, but the model is in two parts. The model goes together very easily.

Having flocked the base with Games Workshop modelling sand, I gave the model a white undercoat.

No, no, no and no again!

So there I was looking forward to to the new Harry Potter film in November when I read this BBC report.

The release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been pushed back by eight months, to July 2009.

The sixth instalment of the teenage wizard’s adventures was supposed to have its Royal premiere on 17 November.

Alan Horn, president of studio Warner Bros, said the decision was taken to guarantee the studio a major summer blockbuster in 2009.

No, no, no and no again!

Epic Deathstrike Missile Launcher

One of the nice models from the Epic 40,000 era was the Deathstrike Missile Launcher.

This one shot super weapon was often at the heart of many an Imperial Guard Artillery Battery. This model is from Simon’s collection.

Unlike a lot of Imperial Guard Epic vehicles this one has never been made into a 40K version by Forge World, though this has not stopped others from scratch-building their own.

With Apocalypse I wonder if we will now see a Forge World version?

More photographs of Epic artillery.

Oh, plastic Deffkoptaz!

Okay so I said earlier on my blog that

I have to admit I am not that impressed. They look a lot smaller than the original metal variants, and more like the (new’ish) Epic Armageddon version.

I was basing that on this picture.

I have since seen a side profile in Apocalypse Reload and today I saw them in the flesh (well in the plastic) at my local GW store.

I am now really growing to like them. They are really nice models.

They are much bigger than they appear in the photograph, a similar size to the current metal model. The detail is excellent and with a good paint job look like they could be really nice. Main challenge appears to be painting them, especially the pilot.

Space Marine Drop Pod (in plastic)

Later this year we shall see a new Space Marine Codex and with the codex comes a bundle of new Space Marine miniatures. One of the new kits will be a plastic Space Marine Drop Pod.

This is based on the Forge World resin model.

Hopefully it won’t be too expensive as unlike a Land Raider, you really need a few of these dropping onto the table.

You can get it “early” by buying the Space Marine Spearhead boxed set which comes out on the 20th September. I suspect they may have a few at GamesDay 2008 in Birmingham the week before.

British WWI Artillery

One of the games I enjoyed a lot at GamesDay 2007 was Aly Morrison and Dave Andrews’ excellent World War One demonstration game.

Here we see a British heavy artillery piece, bombarding the German trenches.

Imperial Guard "Comedy" BaneBlade

Today I had my first game of Warhammer 40K fifth edition. Set in the ruins of an Imperial City, a force of Orks tried to take over a ruined tank factory. An opposing force of Imperial Guard were tasked with stopping them.

In turn four, I allowed Simon to bring on his new Imperial Guard BaneBlade.

Super Heavy Imperial Guard Baneblade from Simon’s collection.

It was interesting playing to the new rules, you have to remind yourself to remove your assumptions based on the fourth edition.

Simon’s BaneBlade which is nearly finished is very BIG! He’s done a really nice job on it and it looked very impressive on the battlefield. Though it couldn’t hit much on the table and when it did, it did very little damage. It actually did more damage to itself when its forward Demolisher Cannon “missed” its target and hit itself!

I expect in the next game it will do more damage – I am going to need something to take it out!
