Here comes Merlin

With the (very short) Merlin teaser after the last episode of Doctor Who, the BBC have announced further details about the new series.

Merlin is a thrilling fantasy drama set to enchant family audiences in a brand new 13-part series on BBC One this September.

Every Saturday night audiences are destined to experience a series of magical adventures, as they follow the unlikely friendship of a would-be wizard (Merlin) and the future King (Prince Arthur).

The drama brings together a cast of acclaimed British actors (Richard Wilson as Gaius, Anthony Head as King Uther Pendragon) as well as exciting new faces.
Colin Morgan is the young wizard Merlin, Bradley James is the arrogant but brave Prince Arthur, rising star Angel Coulby is Guinevere and newcomer Katie McGrath is Morgana.

Multi-award-winning actor John Hurt has just been cast as the Voice of the Great Dragon. Enigmatic and powerful, he alone knows Merlin’s true destiny.

Sounds very interesting, and as The Mill are in charge of special effects (they do most of the SFX on Doctor Who) it should look fantastic.

Looking forward to it.

Apocalypse Reload

Managed to pick up a copy of Apocalypse Reload. Check the blurb from the Games Workshop website.

Apocalypse Reload is a supplement to the hugely popular Apocalypse book, crammed full of more than 50 exciting new datasheets, new strategic assets specific to each Warhammer 40,000 army, and an Apocalypse battle report that has to be seen to be believed!

It’s very nice and got some interesting stuff in (some of which we have seen before).

However I was disappointed it wasn’t a hardback!

Ork Aircraft Traktor Fuel Bowser

One of the Forgeworld models I have always liked is the Ork Aircraft Traktor and Launch Trolley. Ideal to go with my Ork Bommer.

Sadly this is now no longer available, so when stocks were running low (back in 2006) I bought one.

The model consists of the plastic Wartrakk and some resin pieces.

Having put the model together and started on the paint job, I wanted to tidy up and neaten the weathering, which seems to have worked.

You can see the full workbench feature on the Traktor.

Orks

This my Ork army advancing across the battlefield.

In there are my Forge World Squiggoth, Forge World Gunwagon, Stormboyz, Dethkoptaz and a battery of Big Gunz.

The scenery tiles are “homemade” using blocks of 4′ x 1½’ polystryene which I covered in the (original) Games Workshop gaming grass mat. I have four of these blocks, as the 6′ x 4′ grass mat covered them easily.

The hills are from a company I can’t remember and find at the moment!

Trees are model railway tress and there is a bunch of lichen in there as well.

Where’s my house gone?

One of the games I enjoyed a lot at GamesDay 2007 was Aly Morrison and Dave Andrews’ excellent World War One demonstration game.

There was some fantastic scenery such as this ruined house.

It was all the little details that made the game for me such the wonderful details. Such as the wallpaper and the fireplace inside the ruined building.

Great War British Infantry

Excellent stuff.

You can see many more pictures of the game on my website.

Under “new management”

One of the vehicles Simon has in his collection is this very nice Space Marine Vindicator which is now under “new management”. Here are some more photographs in addition to the ones I have shown before.

The back story behind the model is that a Space Marine Vindicator was taken out on the battlefield and then recovered by the Imperial Guard and pressed into service.

Rules wise Simon is using the Thunderer rules from the Forge World Imperial Armour book.

This is a really nice model and I like what Simon has done with it.

More pictures of Vindicators.
