The Lizardmen Army Book

Games Workshop have released, as is becoming the norm now, a digital version of their Warhammer Army Book for the Lizardmen.

The Lizardmen army book has all the content of the hardback edition, plus all the features you’ve come to expect from our iPad Editions. Quick-links embedded throughout the book make it a convenient aid to gaming. There’s an interactive miniatures gallery showing off the Lizardmen range, including 360 rotating images of its monsters and character models. Warhammer: Lizardmen will also be automatically updated with any new additions or amendments to the rules including new FAQ’s.

I’ve always liked the lizardmen concept, and I actually had a small lizardman army when I played the first edition of Warhammer back in the 1980s.

Space Marine Stalker

This is a photograph of the forthcoming new Space Marine Stalker model, well it is alleged that it is and the rumourmill seems to confirm it. The Hunter model comes with a single barrel, whereas the Stalker has three. It is an anti aircraft tank for the Space Marines.

Imperial Fists Damocles Command Rhino

This beautifully painted Imperial Fists Damocles Command Rhino won the Forgeworld Best of Show prize in the 2005 UK Golden Demon awards.

The radar dish moved around and as you can see in this shot, the inside included “real” lights (made from LEDs).

It was very well painted and made good use of the Forgeworld Imperial Fists doors. Though I wasn’t too sure about the “highlighting” on the radar dish. The aerials are well done and add to the overall effectiveness of the model. Probably not too practical for a gaming model!

The weathering is very subtle and very well done, sometimes I think it can be too easy to over-weather models.

Forge World Armoured Medusa

One of the nice things that I remember from attending GamesDay 2008 (was it really five years ago) were the wonderful Forge World display cabinets.

This model of the Armoured Medusa Armageddon Pattern was one of the many finely painted miniature armoured fighting vehicles on display.

One of the reasons I went around GamesDay 2008 taking photographs was to use the pictures as painting references and for ideas when painting my own models.

There are two key aspects of this model that have helped me paint, as it happens, my Ork models. Firstly the rust effect, in the main I think I would use a toned down method for rust. I also really like the cannon barrel, which I think would work really well on an Ork weapon.

It’s interesting to see that this model has no markings, one of the things you see on other Imperial Guard models is a range of markings, apart from the Imperial Aquila, there are no other markings.

Overall I do find the Forge World models quite inspiring and certainly help me to paint and model.

So the next Doctor is…

Peter Capaldi is Doctor Who

Well the secret is a secret no more, the twelfth Doctor will be played by 55 year old Peter Capaldi, who is quite well known as an actor.

He replaces Matt Smith, who at 26 was one of the youngest actors to play Doctor Who, and Peter is the same age that William Hartnell was when he started to play the role of the Doctor. Peter will replace Matt in the Christmas special, and there is no news if Jenna Coleman will continue as the Doctor’s companion.

It will be interesting to see how an older actor will interpret the role.

The 3rd Doctor

Back in the 1990s Harlequin Miniatures produced a licensed range of 28mm metal miniatures and one of the blisters I got was of the third Doctor. After affixing him to his base, I gave the model a white undercoat using Citadel Skull White Spray. I then added some green stuff to his base to fill the gaps. I also painted his face and hands using Citadel Elf Flesh.

I now need to check some source material before I start painting the velvet jacket.

Honoured Imperium Broken Aquila

These have been in storage for a while now, it was back in 2011 that I gave the models a basecoat of Humbrol Sea Grey spray paint.

The broken Aquila was a very flat grey.

I then used a variety of greys and drybushed them on.

I was originally going to keep the whole model grey, but I am now thinking I might add more scenic and foliage and rather than have it as a recently broken Aquila, have it as one that was broken some time ago and nature has over time grown around it. The Imperium has been around for ages and so it still fits the fluff. It was seeing a ruined Imperial City in the jungle in a copy of White Dwarf a few years back that inspired me to think about going down this route.

This scenery that was also on display at GamesDay 2009 always impressed me.

Taking the Imperial Ruins, painting them stone in colour and adding overgrown jungle foliage and roots was always in my opinion an inspired move.

I am going to do something similar with my broken Aquila.

Doctor Who Radio Times 1963

In reality the first episode of Doctor Who never made it to the cover of the Radio Times (they actually featured a radio programme, somehow I can’t seeing them do that too often today).

However if they had featured Doctor Who on the cover of the Radio Times to promote this new series it would, according to the Radio Times, probably looked like this.

Egyptian Sarcophagus

This is a resin Egyptian Sarcophagus from Grendel.

I gave the model a basecoat of Citadel Base: Zandri Dust.

As you can see the basecoat did not fully cover the model. I am expecting the shade or wash to cover those details.

The next stage will be a dark brown wash.

Painting the Brig

Here is another of the metal miniatures from Harlequin Miniatures. This is Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart of UNIT. Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was one of the founders of UNIT and commander of its UK operations.

I added some green stuff to his base to fill the gaps. I also painted the flesh using Citadel Elf Flesh.
