Imperial Armour Volume 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem

Forge World have (finally) released Imperial Armour Volume 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem.

imperialarmourvolume8

Waaagh! Garaghak is gathering pace across the Forsarr sector. Several of the Imperium¹s worlds have already fallen to the rising green tide of Orks, and now the sector¹s primary hive world has been invaded. Garaghak¹s hordes seem unstoppable, except that the Raven Guard¹s Scouts have discovered a secret behind the Goff Warlord¹s unending warbands – an Ork technical genius called Mek Boss Buzzgob who has created his own factories on the former Imperial refinery world in the Kastorel system.

This book contains a detailed history of the Raid on Kastorel-Novem and the rise of Warlord Garaghak. There is a complete Elysian Drop Troop Imperial Guard army list, including the Vulture gunship, Valkyrie Sky Talon and the Tauros and Tauros Venator rapid assault vehicles. There is also background information on the Raven Guard Space Marine Chapter, along with a new special character, Shadow Captain Korvydae. Rules, background and technical details are included for all of the recent Forge World Ork releases.

This book is heavily illustrated with over 50 colour pictures, 60 full colour vehicle profiles, over 30 technical drawings, plus colour profiles for the Elysian Drop Troops, Raven Guard and the Orks of the Goff, Evil Sunz and Death Skullz clans, all to add new depth and detail to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

I will be ordering this book and am looking forward to reading it.

After America

In my e-mail box this morning came a recommendation from Amazon, After America by John Birmingham.

afteramerica

March 14, 2003, was the day the world changed forever. A wave of energy slammed into North America and devastated the continent. The U.S. military, poised to invade Baghdad, was left without a commander in chief. Global order spiraled into chaos. Now, three years later, a skeleton U.S. government headquartered in Seattle directs the reconstruction of an entire nation—and the battle for New York City has begun.

Pirates and foreign militias are swarming the East Coast, taking everything they can. The president comes to the Declared Security Zone of New York and barely survives the visit. The enemy—whoever they are—controls Manhattan’s concrete canyons and the abandoned flatlands of Long Island. The U.S. military, struggling with sketchy communications and a lack of supplies, is mired in a nightmare of urban combat.

Caught up in the violence is a Polish-born sergeant who watches the carnage through the eyes of an intellectual and with the heart of a warrior. Two smugglers, the highborn Lady Julianne Balwyn and her brawny partner Rhino, search for a treasure whose key lies inside an Upper East Side Manhattan apartment. Thousands of miles away, a rogue general leads the secession of Texas and a brutal campaign against immigrants, while Miguel Pieraro, a Mexican-born rancher, fights back. And in England, a U.S. special ops agent is called into a violent shadow war against an enemy that has come after her and her family.

The president is a stranger to the military mindset, but now this mild-mannered city engineer from the Pacific Northwest needs to make a soldier’s choice. With New York clutched in the grip of thousands of heavily armed predators, is an all-out attack on the city the only way to save it?

From the geopolitics of post-American dominance to the fallout of Israel’s nuclear strike, After America provides a gripping, intelligent, and harrowing chronicle of a world in the maw of chaos—and lives lived in the dangerous dawn of a strange new future.

I quite enjoyed the first book in this series, Without Warning that though has a strange premise about an energy wave, is an enjoyable novel about a world without America.

Reading the synopsis above I now have a better understanding of why certain characters were introduced in the first book.

You can pre-order After America from Amazon.

Ork Stormboyz Nob

One of my Ork units I do like are my Stormboyz (even despite Simon calling them the Lipstick Boyz) however they are leaderless, until now!

Games Workshop do produce a Stormboyz Nob, however it is only available by mail order and not from their shops. So when I was up in Nottingham I did get the Stormboyz Nob when I visited Warhammer World. It is a nice model and will certainly give my Stormboyz mob a bit more punch.

Now I just need to start painting him to match my Stormboyz mob.

Full workbench feature on the Stormboyz Nob.

Ork Kannon

One of the things I like in the Forge World range are the Ork Heavy Weapons, not just the new ones, but the older ones as well. I ordered an Ork Kannon some time ago and it had been hanging around for a while, so I decided to stick it together. It goes together really easily.

I then gave the model a black undercoat.

Once finished I will be able to use it any of my Ork vehicles or a Squiggoth

Malcador Annihilator

Another example of ‘second-generation’ Baneblades, the Malcador Heavy Tank is a mobile fortress, heavily armed and armoured but slow. The ‘standard’ pattern has been altered to create several variants, each designed to fulfil a specific battlefield role. The Annihilator variant mounts a twin-linked lascannon in place of the limited-traverse Battle Cannon of the standard pattern tank, and is commonly equipped with lascannon sponsons to supplement this main armament.

Detractors of the design claim that the Malcador Annihilator falls between two roles, fulfilling neither fully as it is too large and too slow to serve as a ‘true’ tank-hunter while lacking the firepower and armour to evenly match a Baneblade in open war.

Against conventional armour, however, and in the hands of a skilled crew, the Malcador Annihilator can still prove its worth.
