On display at the Forge World Open Day was the Chaos Brass Scorpion of Khorne.

The Brass Scorpion is a terrifying daemonic engine of destruction dedicated to the Chaos God Khorne, Lord of Slaughter. This nightmarish construct, as much hell-spawned beast as war machine, it storms across the battlefield like a monstrous predator hunting and killing. Its huge claws are capable of shredding armour with ease and its firepower laying waste to swathes of enemy infantry. Even in destruction the foes of Chaos have learned to fear this unholy war machine, as its infernally-charged reactor erupts to scorch the battlefield with the fury of its death-throws.
The Brass Scorpion of Khorne is a fantastically impressive resin model designed by Daren Parrwood and painted by Mark Bedford.
I seem to be in the minority as I really quite like this model, and if you read this blog I am not a fan of Chaos one bit!
One of the things I liked about Cities of Death was the large Ork “town” which was there alongside the ruined Imperial Cities. I know I will never have the time, space or resources to make something similar, but I did like the concept and thought it would be nice to have some buildings for my Ork Airfield, well at least something that could be used alongside my Ork Bommer.
So I took an old DVD-R spindle tub I had, these are available in various sizes depending on how many disks there are, I used a 50 disk tub.
Once you have finished with the disks, you do have the basis for a good building. They come in various sizes as well, 25, 50, 100, therefore you can have different heights as well.
The first thing I did was stick a tube out the side (well my son did), the tube is from a roll of foil.
I then added a Land Raider door as a hatch in the floor and Rhino roof doors as entrance doors.
The next stage was to add some wood planking and some metal panels (made from plasticard).
Then using a hot glue gun I stuck these to the side of the DVD tub. A hot glue gun is perfect for this kind of thing, as both plastic and super glues are unsuitable for this kind of model.

It’s based on my Ork Fort.
More soon…
Those of us in the UK can tonight look forward to the first of three new episodes of Red Dwarf.

Yay!
Back to Earth Part 1: The classic sci-fi comedy returns for a special three-part series. Older but no wiser, the crew discover a dimension-hopping leviathan in the ship’s water tank.
Tonight at 9pm on Dave.
We first saw the Forge World Ork Flakk Wagon at GamesDay 2008, still no sign of it been available now. It was on show at the Forge World Open Day 2009.

Still looking good. Wondering though when it will become available?
You can now see all my photographs from the Forge World Open Day 2009 in this gallery.
Next month sees the release of the plastic Valkyrie from Games Workshop.
At the recent Forge World Open Day we saw some conversion kits for the plastic Valkyrie including a Vulture and a Vendetta.

The Vulture makes use of some of the plastic components, whilst the Vendetta conversion turns the Valkyrie into a heavily armed gunship.
Alas I didn’t manage to get any photographs of the Vendetta (I thought I had, but I hadn’t).
Forge World will also be making some new weapon packs as well.
Really nice kits.
Update: you can now see all my photographs from the Forge World Open Day 2009 in this gallery.
Doctor Who returns to our screens this Easter on Saturday 11th April at 6.45 pm with Planet of the Dead.
A London bus takes a detour to an alien world, but can the Doctor defeat the terrifying Swarm?
There is a trailer on the BBC website. Looking good.
When Games Workshop released Cities of Death, they released a set of resin Urban Barricades and Walls. Unlike the Urban Basing Kit it is still available at the time of writing. You got six barricades and they blended in nicely with the plastic ruins which were also released with Cities of Death.
First was a black undercoat. I gave the barricades a Codex Grey drybrush, this was quite a heavy drybrush.
The next stage was to paint and drybrush certain areas.
The inside wall was painted with Scorched Brown.
The earth sections were drybrushed with Scorched Brown, whilst metal parts were picked out with Boltgun Metal.
See the full workbench feature on this barricade and on all my barricades.
