This Ork Warboss was one of the models included the Assault on Black Reach boxed set. The Warhammer 40,000 Assault on Black Reach was 5th edition’s “boxed game” or “starter set”.
There are very few parts and the clip nature of the kit means it went together very easily.
The original plan was an undercoat, and I was pretty sure I would go with my traditional black for Orks.
Having constructed the model I then put it away for a while.
Now having got it out again, I am thinking that I may go with a white undercoat and then use contrast paints for the model.
Here’s the Ork Warboss from the Assault on Black Reach boxed set.

This is how GW painted their Warboss.
Quite sure that I can’t get close to that quality of painting.
Next stage will be an undercoat, pretty sure if I will go with my traditional black for Orks.
Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka from one of the display cabinets at GamesDay 2008.
From the GW site:
Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is a mighty prophet of the Waaagh!, capable of rousing entire planetary populations of Orks into a frenzy of conquest and bloodshed. He is the single most influential Ork in the galaxy, and billions of greenskins march to war in his name.
This very weird and wonderful model of a Goblin Warboss on Gigantic Spider is from the Citadel Collectors Range and was on display at GamesDay 2007.
More photographs of Orcs and Goblins.
As I showed before on this blog Will Hayes and Mark Bedford have been working on a Ork Warboss Biker and now they have finished it and is available to order from Forge World.
It’s not cheap at £38, but it is a very nice model, and I really quite like it, especially the stonking big rocket!

However I find hims somewhat cheesy, as the 2+ save means that it is very difficult to get rid of him in a game.
Though I do like the model, which is why he gets used.
I have added materials from the urban basing kit to my Ork Kommandos.
I didn’t use any of the resin pieces, but used the large and small slate. I think I will add some barbed wire as well.
I initially decided to paint their backpacks separately, so thought of how I would need to mount them. After much thought (and a fair bit of procrastination) I decided against that idea and stuck the backpacks on.
Here is the Kommando Nob (Boss)’s backpack complete with Grot
I have based my other Ork bosses on 40mm bases, so I might at some point rebase him, but for the moment he can stay on his smaller base (well he is an infiltrator).
Next stage will be the undercoat.
