Forgeworld Newsletter #130

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

In today’s Forge World Newsletter we have list of up and coming model projects and some photos of work in progress to share with you. We have also just taken delivery of a special collectible model that we will tell you a little more about later. But today’s main headline has to be the introduction of an exciting new shipping offer that starts right now! (See below for details!)
Thx,

Ewen Little,
Forge World.

Christmas Shipping Offer
Last year many of you may remember we did a shipping offer before Christmas and as it was so popular we decided to run it again this year. All the way from now until Christmas, anyone who places an order with Forge World for £100 and above won’t pay a single penny for standard shipping. Yup, we pay your postage for you! And of course if your order comes to £250 or more, then you get free Express Delivery to anywhere in the world! Some essential information for anyone wanting to order for Christmas is all of our ‘last order’ dates. The link below will take you to the page on the Forge World website with all you need to know.

What we showed at Games Day
Last weekend at Games Day UK, the Forge World model designers took along projects they were working on for all to see. The link below has a few photos of some of the most popular pieces which will give you a bit of an idea of what is up and coming in the near future. The first photo is of the unfinished master model of a 40K scale Tau Manta. This truly monstrous model has a wingspan of about 860mm/34 inches across. Will Hayes has been working on the Manta for over 3 months and while it can already carry and deploy 4 Devilfish from the lower deck, Will is working on fitting all 48 Fire Warriors into the upper deck now. There is still quite a lot of work to do on the Manta but we will keep you up-to-date with this exciting project in future newsletters. Simon Egan was showing off his nearly complete Tyranid Trygon, a large burrowing Tyranid construct that looks damned scary if you ask me! The idea behind the Trygon is that they burrow up into a target area or behind an enemy and other Tyranid creatures follow along the tunnels they dig to spring ambushes! Our second batch of Elysian Drop Troops progress nicely as we show off some armed with large calibre assault shotguns. Among the other Elysian releases planned are Elysian Veterans and other pieces of equipment as used during the Anphelion Project… We also had some brand new soon to be released Epic 40,000 Eldar Nightwing fighters on show. The ridiculous thing is that these tiny aircraft still manage to include a swing-wing feature! Released in the next few weeks is the second of our new range of etched metal symbols and icons. This sheet of large Imperial Eagles will be great for use on buildings and large vehicles I reckon.

Return of an old favourite
Earlier this week we received a delivery of some of our ’Lord of the Rings’ ‘The Ruined Watchtower of Amon Sul on Weathertop Hill’ models. ‘Weathertop’ plays host to the scene of the encounter between Strider and the Hobbits verses the evil Ringwraiths in ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ and measures over 400mm across! This lovely piece of terrain will only be available while stocks last, so if you want to be sure of owning a ‘Weathertop’ please don’t wait, because when they are gone then we won’t get any more for a looong time!

I have already posted pictures of the Epic Eldar Nightwing, see more of my pictures of the other models over the next few days.

Epic Forgeworld Eldar Nightwing

I always thought the original metal Eldar flyers were a little, well bulky and solid for such a graceful race.

It was great at GamesDay to see Will Hayes showing off his new Epic scale Eldar Nightwing on the Forgeworld stand.

This is a beautifully sculptured model and would you believe it the wings even swing…

ThunderHawk Transporter with Container

This is a preview shot of the Forgeworld ThunderHawk Transporter with container.

I do like this model, though I do not like the actual *traditional* ThunderHawk model which doesn’t look right to me.

The transporter model has been available for some time with a dual Rhino or single Land Raider load, and yours for £395.

This version has instead of the Rhinos or Land Raider this version has a container.

This can be used I guess to offload troops or supplies.

Imperial Command Rhino from the Golden Demon at GamesDay 2005

This was my favourite entry from the Golden Demon at GamesDay 2005.

This Damocles Command Rhino won the Forgeworld Best of Show prize in the 2005 UK Golden Demon awards. The radar dish moved around and as you can see in this shot, the inside included “real” lights (made from LEDs). It was very well painted and made good use of the Forgeworld Imperial Fists doors.

It was very well painted and there were some little details that brought a smile to my face, the internal panels were lit and the radar dish rotated one way and then another…

Welcome to the latest Forge World Newsletter. Games Day UK is fast approaching and we’re busy filling trucks with stock and display models. The office is starting to look a little bare with all the models put in boxes. The display at Games Day will be worth seeing though as we’ll have most of the models in our range on show along with the new items and a few Games Day specials. I saw some pretty big boxes being packed in the FW Design Studio earlier, so you’ll want to stop by their stand. I hope to see many of you at Games Day. We also have a new range of products to show you too.

Phaeton Pattern Imperial Complex – Anphelion Base
Phaeton Pattern Imperial Complex – Anphelion Base As many of you already know, the next Imperial Armour Volume is the “Anphelion Project.” There has been lots of discussion over the preview picture of a Terminator in a corridor shown in Volume 3: Taros Campaign. Well, Forge World’s first base complex is now complete and available to pre-order. This is an incredibly detailed terrain set which can be organised however you’d like. The rooms and corridors can be assembled and left unattached so that you can change the layout every time you play. The roof pieces are all removable and the walls are fully detailed on both sides enabling you to have battles inside, outside and through the complex. The doors can also be removed so they can be used as obstacles or to hide nasty surprises behind. The exterior of the buildings are detailed with shutters, panelling, vents, cabling, windows, locking points for each section and buttresses with automatic piles driven into the ground stabilising the building. The interior is just as detailed with corresponding locking points and strong industrial feel to the styling. Cabling snakes across the walls and ceiling, pipes run down the corridors, access points and storage containers all add to the dark feel of the complex. It’s the room details that really stand out however. Each wall is recessed to allow a detail panel to be placed in it, thereby allowing the rooms to be customisable and allowing you to specify the tasks performed in it. Wall pieces include data storage units, chemical tanks, xenos containment chambers, roof access points, scribe desks and several more. Another piece of interest is the dissection table, a rather nightmarish device with servo arms wielding assorted blades and implements and computer screens to display the information gathered. Also in the set is a Landing Pad, complete with guidance lights and servicing points. The mastermind behind this base complex is Darren Parrwood and he’s spent many months hunched over his desk oblivious to the world creating the base. Once completed, the pieces were handed over to Mark Bedford who has created a terrain board incorporating all these pieces showing the Anphelion Base in situ on the planet. We have some photos of it to show you but if you want a proper look, you’ll need to be at Games Day where it will be on display.

Games Day Specials
At Games Days, we always have a few event only models and this one will be no exception. Available at this year’s Games Day will be the Multi-part Epic Space Marine, the 1:6th Scale Imperial Guard Laspistol, a range of colour prints from Imperial Armour Volume 3: Taros Campaign and a new Kroot Bird. These are only available at Games Days and a couple of other select events, so don’t miss your chance to get them. Also, we are hoping to get some extra castings of the detailed room panels from the Phaeton Pattern Complex for Games Day, if we manage it then you’ll be able to buy room panels for use in dioramas or your own scenery. Forgeworld Epic Ork Gunwagons

I am finishing off some more of my Forgeworld Epic Ork Gunwagons.

In this picture the ink, paint and water wash is still wet.

They have being painted in various shades, one was Snakebite Leather, another Blazing Orange and the other Vermin Brown. I do like the fact they look consistent yet different.

The next stage will be a drybrush in the basecoat to highlight the detail and tone down the wash.
