Steam Tank

The military might in the Victorian era was enhanced with powerful steam tanks.

Ironclad Miniatures Steam Tank

I recently wrote an article on adding Science Fiction elements to Old West gaming, SteamPunk Old West. I wanted some vehicles to go with the Old West miniatures I was painting. Looking at the resin models from Ironclad miniatures, one that did catch my eye was one of the steam tanks. It comes in a variety of pieces.

This is a very clean casting. There are not many parts and this dry run shows it was very easy to put together. I am thinking about adding more details to the model.

The first task was to wash the resin, to remove any remaining mould lubricant.

1879

Ral Partha Europe  have released photographs of their 1/100th scale British Infantry for their new FASA Victorian Science Fiction game, 1879.

1879 British Infantry

Roughly 18mm tall, these British Infantry are wearing the latest in Miasma mask technology, and are armed with Lee-Metford rifles.

I’ve not seen a huge amount of info on 1879, but it does sound interesting.

Ral Partha Europe will also be releasing vehicles at some point in the future. Thinking these might be useful for my Space 1939 idea.

Tunnelling Machine

I recently wrote an article on adding Science Fiction elements to Old West gaming, SteamPunk Old West. I wanted some vehicles to go with the Old West miniatures I was painting. Looking at the resin models from Ironclad miniatures, one that did catch my eye was the tunnelling machine.

Thinking about possible scenarios, the idea of gold mines came to me. So decided to purchase the model. Very much a Jules Verne style model it was still looked very much like it would fit into the old west environment.

It was a very clean casting and there weren’t too many pieces either.

Kingdom of Britannia Illustrious Class Sky Fortress

High above the waves the Illustrious Class Sky Fortress gracefully glides into battle, held aloft by six gigantic manoeuvring rotors and the Royal Engineering Corps’ most advanced Sturginium Gravitation Generators. But do not let the majestic soaring fool you, this is a beast born for war, with a host of deadly and devastating weapons that it brings to the fight. It can pummel you with turret fire while deadly squadrons of fighters and fighter bombers launch, ready to bring even more death and destruction to the fray. Illustrious is the name of this model, but its enemies may perhaps rename it to Infamous once they’ve felt its wrath in battle.

This is how it looks from the marketing material.

The model itself comes in a blister.

The first stage will be washing the resin model and giving it a white undercoat.

Prussian Empire Pflicht Class Scoutships

Prussian Empire engineers love the classic zeppelin shape and have made extensive use of the gas powered blimp shape throughout the military. So what does this machine of war bring to the gaming table? Well a powerful aft bomb, fore Tesla coils and broadside weapons that hit out to Range Band 2.

This is how it looks from the marketing material.

The two models come in a blister pack.

Prussian Empire Arminius Class Frigates

The Dystopian Wars is a miniatures games from Spartan Games.

The Prussian Frigate is a simple ship with a single turret and aft Tesla weapons. Squadrons of Frigates are often used to screen larger ships, combine their fire against enemy ships, and sometimes chase down vessels that have submerged below the ocean waves.

There are six models and they come in a single blister pack.

Dystopian Wars Airfield Set

This set contains three medium-sized hangers, two zeppelin towers and one communications building.

This was very much an impulse buy, but I was inspired recently by some Dystopian Wars pictures that I recently posted to the blog.

As with virtually all Dystopian Wars castings these are very clean and no flash.

Beautiful Dystopian Wars

Reading the Cianty Blog they had a show report from Hamburg, in amongst all the photographs was this amazing Dystopian Wars demonstration game. A series of rocky islands complete with cities and airship landing stations.

Dystopian Wars

An incredible piece of modelling and painting. Very inspiring.

You can see how it all came together with a lot more photographs on the Hamburger Tactica website (in German).

Crimean War

Crimean War Soldiers
A new era for me.

Looking at using the Waterloo rules from Warhammer Historical for this period, but the idea is small skirmishes rather than big battles.

I bought three blister packs, the models are from the Great War Miniatures Crimean War range.

I am thinking that I might also use them for some Victorian Science Fiction scenarios set in Victorian England, something I have written about on my website before, looking at gaming in the world of The Difference Engine.
