Scorpius Missile Tank coming soon

GW have announced the Scorpius Missile Tank for The Horus Heresy.

Built on the ubiquitous Deimos Rhino chassis the Scorpius Missile Tank was designed at the request of none other than the close-combat hungry Space Wolves. All of their huffing and puffing couldn’t blow down the fortified xenos bastion-cities they came up against in their earlier campaigns, but a massive missile launcher system was just the ticket to bring them tumbling down. Their Barrage weaponry provides invaluable indirect fire against all sorts of targets – whether they are clad in ceramite or not.

Feels a little tall for me, but then again most Space Marine Whirlwind variants are on the tall side.

This is of course a new plastic kit based on the original Forge World resin kit.

Here is that model (well three of them) in The Battle of Signus Prime display at Warhammer World.

New Rogal Dorn Battle Tank for the Imperial Guard

Rogal Dorn Tank

So there is a new tank coming for the Imperial Guard.

The new Rogal Dorn Battle Tank is a behemoth of a vehicle, perfectly suited for smashing enemy positions and anchoring defensive lines. Its heavy armour gives it durability worthy of the Praetorian’s name, while its powerful engines ensure it doesn’t fall behind squadrons of Leman Russ Battle Tanks.

Its turret mounts either two full-size battle cannons, or an enormous oppressor cannon.

Like the idea of this model. A nice big Imperial tank. This is bigger than a Leman Russ, but smaller than the Baneblade.

Rogal Dorn Tank

It’s interesting that for many years Forge World produced resin tanks that were also bigger than a Leman Russ, but smaller than the Baneblade. Tanks such as the Malcador Heavy Tank

…and the Macharius Heavy Tank.

I do wonder why they decided to design a completely new tank, though I am reminded of the Imperial Guard Raganrok tank that was developed for Epic.

I suspect it might be that attempting to recreate an existing resin model in plastic was challenging, and to ensure that the sprues would fit in the box they needed to start from scratch.

Having said that, as I said I do like this model.  Also I like that the kit comes with tons of detail parts, so you can add tool stowage, track links, and other bits and bobs all over the chassis, as well as a range of weapon options.

Horus Heresy Predator available today

The new (plastic) model of the Predator is available today. This Predator is based on the Deimos Pattern Rhino.

Although not as fast as the Sicaran, the Predator is a reliable ‘everytank’ for the Legion on the go. Instead of a complicated custom chassis, it’s built on the shoulders of the Deimos Pattern Rhino, providing armies with a dependable armoured fighting vehicle that can be easily modified and repaired as necessary.

It was originally announced and previewed back in July.

I like the kit and retro yet modern look they have achieved with the kit. Well Forge World did do that ten years ago… This is of course a plastic version of that Forge World resin kit. The Forge World kit was of course inspired by the  original plastic Predator model which used the original Rhino model.

The kit comes with a range of weapon choices.

I might get one to add to my Rhino, but not today, as I promised myself I would finish the Rhino first (and it still needs some work).

Horus Heresy Predator available in two weeks

I saw over on the Warhammer Community site a new (plastic) model of the Predator will be available to pre-order next week, so will be available in two weeks.

This Predator is based on the Deimos Pattern Rhino.

Reinforcements available on pre-order soon

This Saturday you will be able to pre-order two new tanks for The Horus Heresy, the Spartan and the Sicaran.

The Spartan is a “re-imaginging” of a Rhino Land Raider conversion from the 1980s.

The mighty Land Raider is a design that has stood the test of time ever since Arkhan Land dug it out of the catacombs on Mars – but what’s a Legion Praetor to do when their prized Terminator squads can’t quite squeeze into its armoured hold? They reach for the Spartan Assault Tank – and now, with a stunning new plastic kit, you can too.

Also known as the Land Raider Spartan, this armoured carrier was designed to punch through the most overwhelming enemy defences and deliver a knock-out blow of massed Astartes infantry. It became a common assault vehicle during the Great Crusade, where its nigh-impervious chassis could shrug off regular anti-tank weapons as it ferried up to 26 Legionaries – or 13 Terminators – into the fray, with a surprising turn of speed for its size.

A resin version was available from Forge World, but this is a full plastic kit.

This was based on a conversion from White Dwarf 119.

The article in White Dwarf had instructions for the conversion of a Land Raider and a Rhino into two new Imperial vehicles. One was the Spartan, Terminator Battle Tank using the kit parts with the addition of plastic card or cardboard. and an Imperial Tank Hunter utilising the remainder of the parts from the two kits.

The article also had an overview of the Spartan Assault Tank.

Horus had thrown around the captured Adeptus Mechanics city of Aries Primus. This was then the second city of Mars and the largest single source of war munitions in the Imperium. With the city in Horus’ hands, the besieged Earth stood no chance against the forthcoming attack from his Rebel forces. Only by recapturing Aries Primus and its weapons factories could Earth’s hard-pressed forces be resupplied. Horus had ordered a defensive plasma ring to be constructed around the city and called it the Ring pair can shoot against targets on that of Death. Without vehicle transport, even the Terminators were unable to get through. The Imperium had lost most to hit with each pair – so either both of its armoured carriers in the first battle for Aries Primus, and facilities to replace them were meagre. So, taking what spare parts and production facilities were available elsewhere, the Spartan and vehicles much like it were hastily devised. Although many died attempting to cross the Ring of Death, it was eventually penetrated and destroyed, and the city was carried thanks to the devotion and sacrifice of the Terminator Suicide Squads. The Spartan design proved so successful that it was refined and retained as a standard part of Imperial equipment.

The Spartan is a special conversion based on the well known Land Raider. The extra luggage space and open-top main hatch are designed to accommodate the extra bulk of Space Marines wearing Terminator Armour. The Spartan is armed with two sets of twin lascannon, exactly as the standard Land Raider, and it is provided with an additional forward facing heavy bolter and rear facing bolt gun. Both these hull-mounted weapons are designed to be operated by a Terminator standing in the Spartan.

The Sicaran is a more recent model, but before this plastic version, there were multiple resin versions from Forge World.

Of the two I prefer the Spartan.

Both will be available to pre-order this Saturday.

Vartijan Exo-Driller

The Vartijan Exo-Driller has been revealed over on the Warhammer Community website to accompany Squat Prospectors on their most dangerous digs

These suits of rugged exo-armour were originally designed to protect Squat miners in the most hostile environments – and the ash wastes definitely qualify. They’ve been upgraded over the centuries with heavier weapons and better defences, and Prospector gangs now bring them along to fight off Ash Waste Nomads or other hostiles trying to claim the prime dig sites out in the Necromundan badlands.

Very much a Squat terminator (or even dreadnought) this is a fun model and lots of potential both for and beyond Necromunda.

It is reminiscent of the Squat Exo-Armour of old. It does make me wonder what else we will see over the next few years.

Squat Prospectors

Announced today are some really nice Squat Prospectors.

Squat Prospectors

These are the Ironhead Squat Prospectors – tough and resourceful miners out in the ash wastes who are more than capable of defending themselves from anyone that tries to take the treasures they dig up.

Squat Prospectors

Though designed for Necromunda, I do like these models. They really remind me of the original Squats.

Thinking I might get a squad.

New boxed set for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy revealed

new boxed set for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy

So we now have details of the new boxed set for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. You get forty “beaky” Space Marines in Mark VI armour, Terminators, Contemptor Dreadnought and a Spartan Assault Tank.

It was revealed on the Twitter.

I do quite like the idea of this box set, lots of nice retro style beaky marines and a great looking tank as well.

Plastic Spartan Assault Tank

Over on the Warhammer Community site they have revealed a new plastic Spartan Assault Tank .

Of course we have had the Forge World resin version for some time now, though this has been deleted from the Forge World store.
