Fantastic fantasy scenery from the talented hands of Dave Andrews…

In the most recent UK White Dwarf, issue 325, January 2007, was a battle report.

Battle Report: March of the Damned: We take two of Warhammer game’s toughest characters and pitch them headlong into mortal combat with one another. Will the evil of Manfred Von Carstein win out, or will the nobility of Kurt Helborg take the day?

This battle report featured three superb fantasy buildings, alas though they were shown in a few photographs, they were quite difficult to see. It was promised that more would be seen in the next issue of White Dwarf.

I was lucky to take photographs of all three buildings at GamesDay 2006. So here they are a month before White Dwarf.

I have posted two of the buildings before on the blog.

The buildings are from the talented hands of Dave Andrews and include this observatory.

A wonderful boat building combination.

Also a building with some wierd undead type thing on the roof.

They are really well done and very Warhammer’ish.

Pity that we won’t see Forgeworld versions!

Starship Comparison Chart

Starship Comparison Chart explains why some ships seem smaller.

If you have ever played our version of Star Trek Full Thrust (or Babylon 5 or Star Wars starship games) you will realise that there are two major issues, firstly getting models of the relevant ships and secondly getting ships which are in scale to each other.

The latter point is more difficult as often the ships would be of vastly different sizes to begin with.

A nice series of comparison charts can be found on this website.

As you will see some ships are really tiny, really tiny.

Mark IIB Land Raider

This is the Mark IIB pre-heresey Land Raider.

It is part of Mike Sharpe’s superb Space Wolves army, which was on show at GamesDay 2006.

The model is available from Forgeworld and is a very nice kit. I have one but have not yet started it. It is based on the plastic Land Raider kit, and the model is very similar to the Epic Land Raider.

Space Marine Vindicator Assault Tank

The Vindicator assault tank is often used by Space Maines to breach heavily fortified enemy positions.

This is the Forgeworld version of the Vindicator assault tank. It is part of Mike Sharpe’s superb Space Wolves army, which was on show at GamesDay 2006.

I photographed quite a few photos of Mike’s army when I was at GamesDay as seen on the blog and on the Warhammer 40K Space Marine miniatures gallery.

I found out in this month’s (January 2007) UK White Dwarf review of GamesDay the owner of the collection, I can’t recall seeing details on the day.

It’s an impressive army.

Sisters of Battle Repressor – Storm Troopers Transport

In a recent post I showed a picture of a Sisters of Battle Repressor from the Forgeworld Displays at GamesDay.

Sisters of Battle Repressor

I said “I do like this model and I am intending to get one to use with my Daemonhunters army as a transport for the Storm Troopers”.

Well Santa must have been listening as I got one for Christmas from my friend Simon (thanks mate).

I am well pleased.

It is a very nice model and you get the following bits of resin. A new hull top, a dozer blade and extra weapons.

The Forgeworld model above includes Sisters of Battle doors, but as I am going to make this a Inquisitorial Storm Trooper transport I may use some Inquisition doors or leave them as they are. I might leave them as they are, as I am thinking about adding some extra armour to the model, akin to the spaced armour, but made from mesh, a kind of anti-tank mesh that you see on armoured vehicles today or on German tanks during World War Two.

As well as the resin pieces you also get a complete Rhino kit (though the Repressor is also available as a conversion kit, though the conversion kits to me never seem such value for money).

The standard Rhino kit includes three sprues.

The second sprue.

The Imperial extras sprue.

As a result I will have some spare parts which will be probably used by my Orky boyz on a few conversions.

BBC denies Doctor ‘quits’ report

David Tennant is “committed” to Doctor Who, the BBC insists, despite a report that he is leaving the sci-fi drama.

Doctor and Donna

The Sun claimed the actor, 35, planned to depart next year, in the middle of the fourth series of the hit programme.

But he was currently filming the third series, a BBC spokeswoman said, adding that any episodes beyond that had yet to receive the go-ahead.
