The Quad Launcher is a highly effective anti-infantry and suppression weapon, lobbing four shells at a time down onto enemy trenches, or used for point defence in a direct fire role against enemy infantry attacks.
Of course the Quad Launcher is also known at the Thudd Gun. This one was on display at Warhammer World.
According to the latest posting on the Warhammer Community sites, the Old World in Warhammer is coming back.
The original Warhammer world was “destroyed” in 2015. The Warhammer: The Game of Fantasy Battles changed forever when Games Workshop (though they said Archaon was responsible) destroyed the world.
Everything we knew of the Old World collapsed into a void of Chaos and infinite possibility. From that tumultuous storm came the Mortal Realms, heralding a new dawn of unending war in the Age of Sigmar.
I never really got the Age of Sigmar, apart from it was an attempt to make Warhammer Fantasy Battles more like Warhammer 40K.
I am interested to see where this is going, but it’s not a new story or a new world, it’s the original old world.
The Old World is to Warhammer Age of Sigmar, as the Horus Heresy is to Warhammer 40,000.
So looks like we’re getting the old Warhammer back…
This Valentine Infantry Tank Mk III was on display in the Land Warfare Exhibit at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
British WW2 infantry support tank, crew of 4, powered by AEC 6-cylinder diesel engine, armed with 2pdr gun and machine gun.
Valentine was an infantry tank produced in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. More than 8,000 of the type were produced in eleven marks, plus various specialised variants, accounting for approximately a quarter of wartime British tank production.
Over on the Warhammer Community a new model for the Sisters of Battle has been shown off. It’s a model of Junith Eruita, a Canoness Superior of the Order of Our Martyred Lady, complete with flying pulpit.
This massive model is as gloriously over-the-top as Sisters of Battle classics like the Exorcist or Penitent Engine. It’s a floating pulpit with a massive aquila on the front and skeletons holding heavy flamers on the bottom.
I do think this is one bizarre model, even by the standards of Warhammer 40K.
I have been wondering about the new edition of Car Wars, so it was interesting to watch this preview of the new rules.
Car Wars Sixth Edition is a complete redesign of the original game of autoduelling. It plays faster and includes new plastic miniatures.
So it captures the spirit of the original game, but loses a lot of the complexity. Sounds like it will be interesting to see it in the flesh.
At the Bovington Tank Museum you can get close up and personal with the first tanks that were built and used in combat, such as the Mark IV Tank.
First World War tanks, namely the British Mark IV, started the practice of carrying fascines on the roof, to be deployed to fill trenches that would otherwise be an obstacle to the tank.
The Mark IV was a British tank of the First World War. Introduced in 1917, it benefited from significant developments of the Mark I tank (the intervening designs being small batches used for training). The main improvements were in armour, the re-siting of the fuel tank and ease of transport. A total of 1,220 Mk IV were built: 420 “Males”, 595 “Females” and 205 Tank Tenders (unarmed vehicles used to carry supplies), which made it the most numerous British tank of the war.
The “Male” tanks were armed with three machine guns and two 6-pdrs. Whilst the “Female” tanks had Five .303 Lewis machine guns.
The Mark IV was first used in mid 1917 at the Battle of Messines Ridge. It remained in British service until the end of the war, and a small number served briefly with other combatants afterwards.
I have been working on a metal 15mm Mark IV Tank for use with the Home Guard.
Though I do really like the Flames of War Great War models, which have a lot more detail.
I also have a gallery of Mark IV tanks from a wonderful 28mm demonstration game at GamesDay 2007.
This huge, what I think is a, Planetary Defence Weapon was part of the huge Warhammer 40,000 diorama at Warhammer World.
Of all the anti-tank guns used during the Second World War, the 37mm Pak 36 was the most widely encountered. This one is displayed in the Land Warfare Exhibit at Duxford.
Developed in 1933 and issued to the German army in 1936, with 9,120 being available by the beginning of the war in September 1939 and a further 5,339 produced during the war.
I remember having a 1:76th version (20mm) because I had the Matchbox Krupp Kfz 69.
Back in 2004 I discussed using an 1/72nd Airfix kit of the WWII LCVP Landing Craft as the basis for an Epic scale Imperial Guard Tank Landing Craft .
I saw this post as I was updating some other stuff, so I thought I would add an update. Alas this never got further than the ideas stage and the kit was eventually sold on eBay a few years ago.
The FV611A Humber Pig Mk 2 was an armoured vehicle based on the Humber 1 ton truck chassis. This one was on display at the Imperial War Museum in London.
Used by the British Army from the 1950s until the early 1990s. The Pig saw service with the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) from late 1958 until early 1970. The Pig became particularly well known from its presence on the streets of Northern Ireland during the worst of the Troubles.
I was thinking that some 15mm versions of this would be useful for modern English Civil War games along with the Team Yankee releases available now.
