As well as the Shadowsword video, the boys at Games Workshop have also published a video preview of the new Ork Stompa.

Shadowsword and Stormlord Video
Games Workshop have published on YouTube a video of their new Shadowsword and Stormlord kit.
Abandoned Looted Rhino
Though I have not quite finished my Looted Ork Rhino I have been using it in my games as an abandoned vehicle.
Just added a bit of lichen to make it look abandoned. Glad I modelled the rear door to open, the interior and that the top hatch is separate.
Sanding the bases of the Stormtroopers
I normally like to base my models before undercoating, in this way I am gluing the base materials (ie sand or slate) to the raw base and not a partly painted base. Also the undercoat helps to cement the base materials. However not everything always goes to plan, sometimes I have a spraying session before I have a basing session.
This was certainly the case with my Inquisitorial Stormtroopers who were well painted before I started to base them. As I was doing a desert feel to these I knew I was going to use sand, but also wanted some rocks as well, so I used some slate from the Warhammer 40K Urban Basing Kit. Having added the rocks I then using PVA (white glue) flocked the based with some Games Workshop sand.
I do like the sand which has some small larger pieces of gravel, which adds a lot of nice texture.
The bases will be painted (which helps cement in the sand) and then drybrushed.

Another fifteen dice…
Back in November 2007 I wrote a blog post on the (then) new Forge World Macharius with Vulcan Mega Bolter.
I was astounded back then with the Heavy 15 capabilities of the Vulcan Mega Bolter. Throwing 15 dice on one go.
Well if resin isn’t your thing, then the forthcoming new plastic Shadowsword kit will make you happy as one of the variants you can make, the Stormlord, is armed with the Vulcan Mega Bolter! As you can see here from the Shadowsword box art from the latest White Dwarf.

Wonder how many of these models Simon is going to buy!
Epic Imperial Guard Salamander
Here are a trio of Imperial Guard Salamander from Simon’s collection.
The Salamander command vehicle is one of the many vehicles based on the flexible Chimera chassis. Armoured Company command sections are often equipped with the Salamander Command vehicle, allowing them and their Chimera borne infantry keep up during an assault and support the tanks.
These conversions were made, probably about ten years ago.
I am pretty sure that these are Griffon hulls, as for the gunners, well would you believe me if I said they were Ork Buggy Gunners?
Ork Stormboyz
Tomorrow (17th January) sees the release of new plastic Ork Stormboyz.

Stormboyz, the shock troops of many successful warbands, dedicate their lives to the time honoured martial disciplines of drilling, marching and hurtling through the air. To this end they go to war strapped to rokkit packs that, when activated propel their wearers forward on great tongues of oily black flame.
I do like the new models which seem very Orky. Not sure if I am going to get any as I already have a mob of the old sort.

Merlin on DVD
I really enjoyed BBC’s Merlin, but I can now get it on DVD.
Well Volume 1 is available now, Volume 2 in the next few weeks.
I know some think it was a bit “silly” and not very true to the legends of Arthur and Merlin, however my view was that the series wasn’t trying to do that it was much more about being an enjoyable TV series rather than an accurate version of the mythical legends of Arthur.
