Space Marines on sale at UK GamesDay

Space Marine Drop Pod
According to the Games Workshop website, a variety of Space Marines stuff will be on sale at the UK GamesDay on the 14th September including the new Drop Pod.

Dropping from orbit, the brand new pre-release Space Marines will be in extremely limited supply. That said, we’ll be taking 2000 brand new plastic Drop Pods – an amazing 89-piece plastic kit – not to mention the all-new Thunderfire Cannon and the all-important Codex: Space Marines.

We’ll also be taking supplies of the new Sternguard and Vanguard Veterans, the mighty all-plastic Land Raider Redeemer / Crusader, as well as the many new Special Characters including Captain Sicarius of the Ultramarines and the Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists, Pedro Kantor.

Hmm tempted.

Took a few photographs of Marneus Calgar of the Ultramarines’ Land Raider from the ‘Eavy Metal display cabinets at both GamesDay 2005 and Warhammer World.

£18 for the Drop Pod!

Later this year we shall see a new Space Marine Codex and with the codex comes a bundle of new Space Marine miniatures out on the 4th of October.

One of the new kits will be a plastic Space Marine Drop Pod and I was pleasantly surprised to find it will only be £18 ($30).

This is based on the Forge World resin model which costs a massive £45!

You can get it “early” by buying the Space Marine Spearhead boxed set which comes out on the 20th September. I suspect they may have a few at GamesDay 2008 in Birmingham the week before.

Hopefully it won’t be too expensive as unlike a Land Raider, you really need a few of these dropping onto the table.

Assault on Black Reach on pre-order

The starter boxed set for Warhammer 40K, the Assault on Black Reach is now available to pre-order on the Games Workshop online store.

Assault on Black Reach on pre-order

For only £40 I think it represents “amazing” value for money.

An ideal first purchase for anyone new to wargaming or existing gamers who want to begin playing Warhammer 40,000, the enclosed starter booklet has easy-to-follow examples and a step-by-step introduction to the game, while the rulebook contains all of the information you’ll need to play the game proper. The two armies provided will allow you and a friend to begin playing right away – these finely detailed, plastic, citadel miniatures have been specially designed to allow you to quickly assemble an army ready for your first battle. For existing Warhammer 40,000 players, this set provides some unique scenery and a handy, pocket-sized rule book, great for taking along to tournaments and events. This boxed game contains a 112-page Rulebook, a 33-page Getting Started booklet, Dice, Templates, Range Rulers and almost 50 Citadel miniatures, including: a Space Marine Captain, 10 Tactical Space Marines, Five Space Marine Terminators, a Space Marine Dreadnought, an Ork Warboss, 20 Ork Boyz, five Ork Nobz and three Ork Deffkoptas.

Despite my earlier reservations about the Deffkopta, having now seen the side view in Apocalypse Reload I am growing to like them.

I think I will be getting a box (or even two).

Under “new management”

One of the vehicles Simon has in his collection is this very nice Space Marine Vindicator which is now under “new management”. Here are some more photographs in addition to the ones I have shown before.

The back story behind the model is that a Space Marine Vindicator was taken out on the battlefield and then recovered by the Imperial Guard and pressed into service.

Rules wise Simon is using the Thunderer rules from the Forge World Imperial Armour book.

This is a really nice model and I like what Simon has done with it.

More pictures of Vindicators.
