Urban Barricade with Space Marine Bike

When Games Workshop released Cities of Death, they released a set of resin Urban Barricades and Walls. Unlike the Urban Basing Kit it is still available at the time of writing. You got six barricades and they blended in nicely with the plastic ruins which were also released with Cities of Death.

They are very well detailed. This is probably my favourite with the wrecked Space Marine bike in the barricade.

First was a black undercoat. I gave the barricades a Codex Grey drybrush, this was quite a heavy drybrush.

The next stage was to paint and drybrush certain areas. The main part of the bike’s body was painted dark green and the tyres were given a brown drybrush. Rust was added to various bits of the barricade.

The earthy sections were drybrushed with Scorched Brown paint. The bike’s metal parts were drybrushed with Tin Bitz and Boltgun Metal.

See the full workbench feature on this barricade and on all my barricades.

Forge World Chaos Brass Scorpion

Forge World have released their most recent newsletter, Forge World Newsletter #209 which has details of the rather nice Chaos Brass Scorpion. Details of new rules will be in the third Siege of Vraks book due this year.

Forge World must have scorpions on the brain this month, as there are also releases for the Red Scorpions Space Marine Chapter.

Hello There,

Even though winter grips us with an icy hand here at Forge World, it hasn`t stopped us getting your orders out, and this newsletter we have something extraordinary for you in the shape of our Chaos Brass Scorpion of Khorne.

As well as this great new model, we have some requested heavy re-enforcement options for the Red Scorpions and our first event of the year.

Thanks
Alan Bligh

Chaos Brass Scorpion of Khorne

The Brass Scorpion is a terrifying daemonic engine of destruction dedicated to the Chaos God Khorne, Lord of Slaughter. This nightmarish construct, as much hell-spawned beast as war machine, it storms across the battlefield like a monstrous predator hunting and killing. Its huge claws are capable of shredding armour with ease and its firepower laying waste to swathes of enemy infantry. Even in destruction the foes of Chaos have learned to fear this unholy war machine, as its infernally-charged reactor erupts to scorch the battlefield with the fury of its death-throws.

The Brass Scorpion of Khorne is a fantastically impressive resin model designed by Daren Parrwood, and both an assembled example and a version painted by Mark Bedford can be seen pictured Here. The models has some superb details such as the tangled web of cabling and writhing bodies beneath its angled armour plating, and it can be built in a variety of poses. There is also a 360 degree view of the painted Brass Scorpion here.

A super-heavy war machine, rules for the Brass Scorpion of Khorne can be found in Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse available from Games Workshop, and it will also be included as a new variant in our forthcoming book Imperial Armour Volume Seven: The Siege of Vraks Part 3.

The Chaos Brass Scorpion of Khorne is available to pre-order now for release the week commencing the 23rd of February.

I seem to be in the minority as I really quite like this model, and if you read this blog I am not a fan of Chaos one bit!

Do you want a Thunderfire Cannon?

At GamesDay 2008 there was a (very small) bundle of pre-release Space Marine stuff, from the Codex to the Drop Pod to the Thunderfire Cannon…

Thunderfire Cannon?

As I mentioned earlier on this blog…

I was also disapppointed with the lack of Ork stuff for sale on the retail stands, all they seemed to have was the Space Marine Thunderfire Cannon, boxes of them, boxes and boxes. Virtually all other new Space Marine stuff such as the Codex and Drop Pod had sold out by 11.00am! However if you wanted a bundle of Thunderfire Cannons, no problem!

There was loads of Thunderfire Cannons and I did mention also in the blog entry

The thing was that it wasn’t only a pre-release it was also an opportunity to get it much much cheaper. At GamesDay 2008 it was priced at £25. Games Workshop are going to increase their prices on the 29th September, so when the Thunderfire Cannon is released on the 4th October it will be priced at £30 (well according to the red shirt I spoke to at GamesDay).

So my conclusion was that one of the reason was it was over-priced and that was why it wasn’t selling.

I believe it didn’t sell as it was overpriced for what it was (and it’s going to cost even more) and I think that it’s not a very good model. When you compare it to the Forge World Tarantula which is cheaper and looks more “realistic” (well how realistic can a weapon from the 41st millennium be).

If you check the store it does say £30.

Thunderfire Cannon?

However have a look at White Dwarf Online and what does that say?
£18

Possibly a mistake?

Possibly. It also says the Codex is £15 and I was charged £18!

Codex Space Marines

Released today and I have my copy.

Codex Space Marines

The Space Marines of the Adeptus Astartes are Humanity’s ultimate warriors, dedicated to the defence of the Emperor and the Imperium of Man. They are barely human at all, but superhuman, having been made superior, in all respects, to a normal man by a harsh regime of genetic modification, psycho-conditioning and rigorous training. Organised into small independent armies called Chapters, their unswerving loyalty is to the Emperor of Mankind and no other. This 144-page Warhammer 40,000 Codex contains all the rules you’ll need to field a Space Marine army, as well as detailed background information, bestiary, accompanying artwork and ‘Eavy Metal showcase.

It’s huge book and full of pages!

So is it worth £18?

Hmm.

Maybe I am just getting old. Maybe I am as it only seemed like yesterday when I bought the last Codex!

Do you want a Thunderfire Cannon?

I didn’t spend a huge amount of money at GamesDay 2008 but did get a few things. Main trouble was that stuff I wanted had sold out.

So why wasn’t the Thunderfire Cannon selling at GamesDay?

According to the same red shirt I spoke to it was because they bought a pallet’s worth with them and it contained small boxes.

Hmmm.

I think not.

I believe it didn’t sell as it was overpriced for what it was (and it’s going to cost even more) and I think that it’s not a very good model. When you compare it to the Forge World Tarantula which is cheaper and looks more “realistic” (well how realistic can a weapon from the 41st millennium be).
One red shirt tried to sell it to me on the basis that it worked well in the game… Well some people may buy figures because of the rules, I buy figures because of the way they look.

So what did I get?

Well I got the Ork Barricades (got the last one). I got the excellent Modelling Masterclass book from Forge World which is full of great stuff. I also got the latest White Dwarf and the Warhammer Historical Old West rules.

What I wanted to get was the Warhammer Historical Great War rules, the Drop Pod, the Space Marine Codex and I even considered getting another Ork Gunwagon – though I may get the new plastic Ork Battlewagon.
