If you were thinking of doing the subscription deal for the new houses from Battlefront you are now out of luck as the House Subscription Deal is now sold out.
The main advantage of the deal was the free shipping, the guarantee that you would get every house released and all the extras too.
As a bonus for subscribing to the full set you will receive an add-on set, including villagers, monuments, walls and other urban extras to the value of two houses. We will also throw in free shipping as an added bonus.
So it sounds like you’ll get these walls and the monument.
Not sure if that bonus includes the extensions?
Well I am very pleased with my Calais House which arrived today. It is really nicely done.
Update: The Calais House has also sold out, so if you want one you will need to check your local shop, but I suspect you would need to be quite lucky to get one.
This month sees the initial release of the Normandy style houses from Battlefront. The first model is the Calais House.
They do seem to have been very popular, with lots of pre-orders.
Our first steps into the real estate market have proved even more rewarding than we had anticipated with our first property, a sunny little house in Calais, selling so fast that we will probably be out before the end of the week. The reason I bring this up is that currently we have orders from our stores around the world far exceeding the supply and we are only three days into solicitation. As our original plan was to make a set number and then have a new one come each month we are overjoyed by the response but we will not be making more of the first house. We will have no choice but to allocate stock to stores to be as fair as possible and give at least some to everybody that has made orders.
It looks like the Calais house will sell out imminently and may have even sold out by the time you read this. After some consideration I did go and order mine, I was hoping to buy it from a local shop, but if the pre-orders are anything to go by then I would probably never have managed to get one.
I did consider doing the subscription deal, but not sure if I want ALL the buildings…
Yes, yes and yes again. Battlefront are (finally) releasing some 15mm buildings for Normandy.
In my look at the Rural Church which was released in May I did ask…
What I have noticed is a distinct lack of building releases for Normandy, there are quite a few buildings in the many photographs you see in the rule books and the two source books for the battle for Normandy. I wonder if the reason is that there are already a fair few companies out there already manufacturing nice resin 15mm buildings already? Having said that a fair few are also making Russian houses and churches too.
So are we going to see any terrain for Western Europe for Flames of War from Battlefront? What do you think?
So here we are some six weeks later and in the latest Wargames Illustrated the new buildings were advertised. What is interesting is how they are going to be released. The buildings will be released on a monthly basis, rotated between the four styles. Battlefront will also rotate the colour scheme. Once a production run has been completed then Battlefront will move onto the next house and paint scheme. The idea is that you will be able to build a gaming board with a variety of houses and paint schemes without any duplication.
The first four releases are as follows.
To follow these releases will be larger houses and some shops and outhouses.
Very pleased to see these forthcoming releases and looking forward to seeing what else is planned.
I already have two of the ruined buildings from the Total Battle Miniatures range of Western Europe 15mm buildings. I was lucky enough to get two more for my birthday from Simon, thank you. He gave me the ruined cafe and ruined shop with passage.
The ruined shop with passage is a nice model, though because it is ruined, you wouldn’t realise that there was a passage. This is the photograph from the manufacturer.
The reason of course is that Total Battle Miniatures range has both the complete building as well as the ruined building in their range.
The model comes with a separate piece of floor, not sure if I will use it, or build a ruined floor using some scrap wood.
It’s a nice casting with clean detail and looks very effective. I will probably use a similar method to the one I used with the other ruins. After washing the resin I will give the model a white undercoat and then use a combination of washing and drybrushing to bring out the detail.
I now have four ruins, but I think I would like to get some non-ruined buildings to complement the ruins. From photographs of Normandy in 1944, you can see in some villages and towns, whilst some houses were ruined, alongside were others that didn’t even look damaged.

The ruined cafe is a really nice building and comes complete with some “pavement” out the front that would have been used with tables and chairs.

Battlefront will be releasing a rural church in their scenery range for Flames of War on the 26th May 2012. As you can see from the photograph this is for the Eastern Front. Looks very nice and goes well with the recent rural houses for the same geographical and historical era.

What do you think?
I have been thinking about how I should paint the ruins that came with my Jagdpanther.
So far I have not been pleased with what I have done so far…
As a result I have been looking online and in Flames of War publications for ideas.
Finding this page on the Flames of War website made me realise I wasn’t going in the right direction with my model.
As you can see from the two examples they have done, there are quite a few things I need to do to my model.
I think I might need to start again!
Within the Flames of War Street Barricades box you get two identical street sections, one overturned Opel Blitz and one pile of barricade, both designed to fill the gaps in the street sections. All are made from resin.
The first thing I did after washing the resin models to remove any remaining mould lubribicant was give the model a white undercoat. I then gave the model a basecoat.
I gave the street sections a basecoat of Humbrol Sea Grey.
The separate barricades, the truck and short barricade were given a basecoat of Warpaint German Armour.
See the workbench feature on the Street Barricades.
There are also a couple of Battlefront painting guides available.
I have the ruined row of three houses and the ruined row of four houses, from Total Battle Miniatures. Having cleaned the models, I gave the inside of the models a black undercoat and then masked the inside of the windows (with masking tape) before I give the model a white undercoat on the outer side of the model.
I then started on the basecoat of the various parts of the building starting with the stonework.
