David Tennant quits as Doctor Who

BBC reports that David Tennant is to quit playing Doctor Who.

David Tennant is to stand down as Doctor Who, after becoming one of the most popular Time Lords in the history of the BBC science fiction show.
Tennant stepped into the Tardis in 2005, and will leave the role after four special episodes are broadcast next year.

He made the announcement after winning the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards.

“When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won’t be with me,” he said.

For me, David Tennant was a most excellent Doctor and probably one of the best ever. It will be difficult to fill his shoes.

Wot no Spooks?

I knew Spooks was coming back this autumn, however not watching much on the television recently meant I didn’t see any trailers. Nor did I get a newspaper either, so didn’t know that it was on tonight at 9pm.

Years ago it would have been a problem as I would have to wait until repeats.

Now we have a few technologies which make it much easier.
I could wait until it appears on DVD, though generally with BBC programmes it takes a long time to get onto DVD.

With Freeview I can watch repeats on BBC Three later this week…

And of course BBC iPlayer means I can watch it now, less than 30 minutes after it finished on BBC One.

Cool.

Merlin

Tonight I watched episode five of Merlin from the BBC. I am really enjoying this series and I think the concept behind the young Merlin is a very clever idea.

It’s not trying to be pretentious as ITV’s Robin of Sherwood back in the 1980s often was. It is quite similar to the BBC’s recent interpretation of Robin Hood.

Looking forward to seeing how the series pans out.

Trafalgar

Warhammer Historical announce their new naval game, Trafalgar, which will be available in early 2009.

Trafalgar

On 21st October 1805, the Royal Navy met the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar. Led by Admiral Lord Nelson aboard HMS Victory, the British scored a decisive victory without losing a single ship.
Now, 203 years to the very day, Warhammer Historical are very excited to announce the forthcoming release of a brand new game – Trafalgar. Written by Legends of the Old West supremo Mark Latham, Trafalgar is an action-packed game where players build their fleets and take to the seas in a hail of cannon fire.
