Warmaster High Elves

Warmaster is one of those games which I really like, but actually never do very much with in terms of modelling, painting or gaming! Maybe it’s time to do something about it in 2010!

This is one of the many Warmaster games which was on show at GamesDay 2001. These are High Elves.

Grey Knight Terminator with Psycannon

One of my Christmas presents (from last year) was a Grey Knight Terminator with a Psycannon.

The model went together very nicely. I used Citadel sand on the base and resin and slate from the Warhammer 40000 Basing Kit. I then gave the model a black undercoat.

The next stage will be a basecoat of Boltgun Metal.

Ork Big Trakk

One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. There were many of the new Forge World models including the excellent Ork Big Trakk. A turbine powered Ork tracked vehicle with twin Big Shootas.

I really like this model, which combined with Trukks and Halftrakks gives the Orks a variety of vehicles that you would expect to find in their forces.

Survivors returns in January

Yay, the BBC’s Survivors is coming back in January 2010 for a second season.

Survivors by Adrian Hodges returns to BBC One for a second series in January 2010 picking up moments after the thrilling cliff-hanger to season one.

Abby (Julie Graham) and her mismatched family of Survivors are in disarray, now struggling not just with the difficulties of day-to-day life amidst the ruins of the post-virus apocalypse, but also with the threat of other emerging communities and the machinations of the sinister Lab.

Weathered Ork Gunwagon

One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. There were many of the new Forge World model and some older one such as this Ork Gunwagon.

This model has been weathered using the new weathering powders. I did get some at GamesDay but have not had the chance to try them out yet. I didn’t buy the whole set I got rust, soot and earth.

One of the issues of being one of the slowest painters in the world is that when you eventually do paint the models, you can find that they have been replaced by newer plastic versions, which sometimes are better, sometimes not, but usually different…

The superhero is back…

Back in the 1980s one of the big RPG games from GW was Golden Heroes. This was followed by various syndicated RGS with characters from Marvel and DC Comics.

The one similarity behind all of these was the superhero wore a suit or had a cape! Too often wearing underpants and tights; oh very camp.

Today as well as the costumed heroes we also have other heroes, those that are found in the film Push and the acclaimed series Heroes. These superheroes are not the ones in costumes, these aren’t even heroes, some don’t even realise they have superpowers. I have enjoyed watching Heroes and have also managed to catch Push as well.

Now I am not sure if there are any serious gaming possibilities with what you could call not-superheroes. Yes you could create a really entertaining RPG scenario, but not sure if there is room for miniatures gaming. Now I could be wrong (and I have been wrong before) so if you have thoughts please post them in the comments.

Ork Gunwagon with Big Zzappa

One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. There were many of the new Forge World models including the new big gunz, mounted on the older Ork Gunwagon. This is the new Big Zzappa.
