Ork Trukk

The original Ork Trukk model was designed for Gorkamorka, and then became part of Warhammer 40K with Codex Orks. It was really way too small and needed to be updated, and updated it was in January 2008 with the release of the new Ork Trukk.

Trukks are designed to transport mobs of choppa-wielding Boyz into combat as quickly as possible. Each warband and clan will ‘kustomise’ its trukks to reflect their own predilictions. For example, a Goff vehicle will be functional with a large crew compartment, while the Evil Sunz almost always have turbo-charged engines and a red paint job.

I do like this model and think it is very Orky. You get a very thin box with two sprues, transfers and instructions.

The model was constructed as per the instructions, Generally I try and build as much of the model as possible to avoid having to glue painted parts together… The chassis and engine were the first parts I stuck together.

I then put the wheels together.

The wheels were then stuck to the chassis.

Skullhamma Battle Fortress

The Skullhammer is the delight of many a Big Mek, a clanking hissing contraption inviariably made from looted parts.

When this model was first shown I did consider buying a BaneBlade to copy the conversion and create my own Skullhamma. However as I wasn’t too sure about how it would turn out, also time and money, decided I would leave the idea as just that an idea. In the end I got a Battlewagon.

Ork Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun

I know some people don’t like the humourous aspects of the Orks, personally I do quite like those aspects. The concept behind the Ork Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun of hoovering up snotlings and flinging them across the battlefield is just like so Orky.

The Shokk Attack Gun is a devastating Ork weapon that hurls Snotlings through the warp, sending them mad in the process. When they reappear, they are frenzied creatures, capable of bringing down the toughest of enemies – especially if they materialise inside an enemy’s armour!

It’s probably why I like the Grot Bomb Launcha so much. The metal Ork Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun is a very nice model and you get the following metal parts.

They fit together quite easily, however it is quite difficult to ensure that all the parts fit.

Weaver

Saw this in a bookshop recently and am considering buying it.

Weaver is a novel around World War Two in which the Germans successfully invade England.

The Weaver of Time’s Tapestry has finally succeeded in twisting the threads of history into a new shape; the Luftwaffe have pushed the RAF to the brink, and the invasion barges have reached the beaches of Sussex and Kent. Britain wakes up to the nightmare of the Wermacht unleashed in Southern England. As the desperate battle to hold up the invasion rages it is left to a few individuals caught up in the panic and chaos to piece together what has really happened – is this the culmination of a plan that has taken centuries to play out, a plot from the future to change the past forever? Stephen Baxter’s historical thriller series crashes into the 20th century with a terrifying vision of mechanised war and political atrocity unleashed on English soil. This is the climax of one of the most thoughtful and involving series of novels that have brought history alive like no other.

My only reservation was that this is the fourth book in a series of books, the first of which deal with Romans and William the Conqueror.

Do I need to read the first three books to make sense of the fourth, or can I enjoy the fourth without needing to buy and read the first three books?

Ork Trukk with Enclosed Cab

This Trukk model also includes a folding platform at the rear. This in my opinion is much better than the plastic platform included with the plastic kit. This is the same platform which we see on the long awaited Flakk Wagon. Bizarrely Forge World don’t sell a Flakk Wagon, you would need to use this Ork Trukk with Enclosed Cab and the separate Flakk gun.

Star Trek IX

I finally managed to get to see Star Trek XI alas not at the cinema but on my TV.

I really enjoyed it, much more so than I thought I would. I thought the storyline was clever, the characters worked for me (well except Kirk) I even liked the reboot that the time travel caused. The effects were very good and I liked the ship models.

I watched it using the copy I got for Christmas which was the Star Trek XI (3-Disc Edition) with Bonus Digital Copy on Blu Ray.

Space Marine Land Speeder Storm

At GamesDay 2008 we first saw the Space Marine Land Speeder Storm.

This was a really nice model that when it was released came with Space Marine Scouts.

I always thought that a flight of Land Speeders would make for an interesting force.

Ork Big Trakk with Supa Kannon

One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. There were many of the new Forge World models including the excellent Ork Big Trakk. A turbine powered Ork tracked vehicle with twin Big Shootas. This model though has been given the Supa Kannon.

I really like this model, which combined with Trukks and Halftrakks gives the Orks a variety of vehicles that you would expect to find in their forces.

The weapon choices also add variety, not just for Forge World vehicles, but also for the plastic Trukk and Battlewagons.

Current rumours abound that in 2010 we will see new plastic Ork Dreads, Wartrakks and Buggies.

The First Men In The Moon

Coming to the BBC in 2010 will be a new adaptation of HG Wells’ The First Men In The Moon.

Mark Gatiss is to star in his own adaptation of HG Wells’ thrilling scientific romance The First Men In The Moon alongside Rory Kinnear, in a one-off 90-minute drama for BBC Four.

It’s July 1969 and, as the world waits with baited breath for news of the Apollo 11 astronauts, a young boy meets 90-year-old Julius Bedford (Rory Kinnear) who tells an extraordinary story of two men’s journey to the Moon, way back in 1909.

As a young man, Bedford chances to meet Professor Cavor (Mark Gatiss), a somewhat unworldly scientist with an amazing invention: Cavorite – anything to which it is applied becomes opaque to the force of gravity. Knowing a miracle when he sees one, and with a keen eye on profit, Bedford encourages Cavor to think big. And so the two men construct a copper and cast-iron sphere which will fly them to the Moon. But what terrors await them in the lunar interior? And will they ever succeed in returning to Earth?

Sounds good and hopefully with modern effects will look good too. Having said that I have always enjoyed the 1964 version of First Men In The Moon with Lionel Jeffries and Edward Judd.
