Download Dark Future

It was only a couple of weeks back when I mentioned Dark Future, in the main as I posted a photograph I had taken of a couple of the vehicles at Warhammer World.

Dark Future Cars

Well bless my cotton socks, you can now download from Games Workshop, the complete Dark Future game including all the supplements and White Dwarf articles. Warning – this is a very large file, 26.7MB.

Dark Future

Excellent, no excuse for a game now, though as I said before I liked the background and the models, but I much prefer the Car Wars mechanics.

Update 1 – fixed link to Specialist Games download page.

Update 2 – removed link as no longer working

Will there be a plastic Stompa kit?

When Games Workshop announced their Apocalypse variant for Warhammer 40K, one image got a lot of gamers excited, a pair of Stompaz!

Ork Stompaz

Initially there was a lot of internet buzz that these were going to be new plastic models, alas it was later found that these were in fact scratchbuilt models.

The only large plastic kit released for Apocalypse was the BaneBlade, however the rules for Stompaz did find there way into the Apocalypse rulebook, so if you built your own you could field them on the gaming table.

Later another (internet) rumour which went round was that Games Workshop had tried to make a plastic Stompa for Apocalypse but were having problems with the moulds and the sprues.

Now with the success of the BaneBlade and the huge increase in orders at Forge World will they try again and release a plastic Stompa?

Well before I answer that question let me firstly quote Jervis Johnson from the current (UK) issue of White Dwarf about the new Orks and the new Ork Codex…

…we’ve got plans for all kinds of new stuff over the course of the year. What else is in the pipeline? Well I’m going to have to keep that a secret for the moment, but suffice to say that 2008 is set to be a very green year indeed…

Now combine that with comments from Seb Perbet at GamesDay 2007 who confirmed to me that the Orks we are seeing being released now are only the first phase and that there will be more Ork released in the spring of 2008.

Finally how about this comment from the Games Workshop site on Stompaz?

There are other Stompa variants – the power-field protected Big Mek’s Stompa with its devastating Lifta-Droppa or the streamlined Go-Fasta Stompa of the Evil Sunz or the heavy Maula employed by the Goffs, but you’ll have to wait to hear more about them.

Now that’s interesting, but you’ll have to wait to hear more about them, does that sound like to you that there could be a plastic kit with variants for the different Ork Clanz?

Why would Games Workshop release a large number of variant Stompa datasheets for Apocalypse when they know that gamers would have to scratchbuild each variant?

Personally I am expecting to see an Ork Stompa in plastic in 2008, do you expect to see one?

Stompa

It’s a messy affair…

I do like to spray my models to undercoat them, as I find that the paint sticks better to the bare resin, plastic, metal as opposed to using a brush.

I do not like to spray my models, as no matter how I use the spray can, I seem to get in a real mess with paint dripping from the can, over my hands, on the floor, all over the place!

I now put a plastic (sandwich) bag over my hand when using spray cans, as it can be such a messay affair.

Am I alone or do you have problems with spray paint?

Forge World Postal Delays

It would seem that Apocalypse is causing big problems for Forge World. Everyone (and a few others) are all purchasing big models for use in Apocalypse games, you know Titans, Shadowswords, Medusas, Squiggoths, etc…

As a result Forge World are having a few problems coping with the demand and therefore there are now delays in getting orders out.

With the recent release of WH40K Apocalypse and the forthcoming Christmas period demand for Forge World models is at an all time high. This has unfortunately led to delays in processing of all orders. Demand for certain models (especially those featured in the Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse rulebook) has been extremely high. Please rest assured we are still committed to despatching orders to all our customers as quickly as possible but significant delays may be unavoidable.

Of course guess who just put in a Forge World order!

Copyright law stops fan film

It would appear that a fan film set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe will never be shown down to German copyright law.

Four years in the planning Damnatus, made by German fans of the Warhammer 40,000 game, cost more than 10,000 euros, took months to film, employs 11 principal actors, dozens of extras and sophisticated post-production special effects. Now finished the film runs to 110 minutes.

But Huan Vu, director and producer of the movie, said Damnatus’ creators have now given up trying to get the film in front of an audience. Mr Vu said that, despite lengthy negotiations with Games Workshop, the company has refused to give permission for the film to be shown.

I understand where GW is coming from, but it is a pity that there is no solution.

Welcome (again) to Felix’s Gaming Pages Blog

After running my gaming blog for many years using iBlog I have decided to move over to WordPress. I have been using WordPress for my new(ish) food blog and have been impressed with the ease of use and the “interoperability” with the Web 2.0 world.

I suspect though the main reason for moving over is a current problem I have with iBlog, in that I have had to reset the blog and republishing was taking days, and in the end I gave up waiting …

I am hoping though that I can “import” my previous blog entries, and I certainly won’t be deleting the old blog so those entries will remain online.
