Merlin

Straight after the final episode of Doctor Who the BBC ran a (very) short trailer which basically consisted of the following screen.

Merlin

A look on the BBC wesbite reveals nothing at the time of writing.

So I did a quick Google search and found this article on the Guardian from 2005.

Merlin is one of a number of dramas being developed for the 7pm Saturday slot following the runaway success of Doctor Who earlier this year, which is credited with reviving family viewing.

The new BBC1 drama would concentrate on Merlin’s early life. In literature and on screen Merlin has been variously portrayed as a key figure in the Camelot story, acting as King Arthur’s adviser, poet and magician, but also as a villainous character.

There is also a later article from the Guardian from this year which has more detail, notably that Anthony Head is in the series.

The BBC has started filming on Merlin, a fantasy drama about Arthurian legend featuring Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Little Britain star Anthony Head and One Foot in the Grave’s Richard Wilson.

The 13-part drama will be broadcast in the autumn and stars a trio of newcomers as the young Merlin, Arthur and Guinevere.

Head will star as Arthur’s father, Uther Pendragon, while Wilson will play court physician Gaius in the Saturday teatime BBC1 series, slated for the family drama slot occupied by the likes of Doctor Who and Robin Hood.

The drama will be set in the mythical city of Camelot, and focus on Merlin as a wizard on the brink of adulthood who clashes with a young Prince Arthur.

Looks interesting. Sounds similar in style to the BBC’s Robin Hood.

Ork Aircraft Traktor

One of the Forgeworld models I have always liked is the Ork Aircraft Traktor and Launch Trolley. Ideal to go with my Ork Bommer.

Sadly this is now no longer available, so when stocks were running low (back in 2006) I bought one.

The model consists of the plastic Wartrakk and some resin pieces.

Having put the model together I initially gave it a white undercoat. Having re-looked at the model I decided that I wanted the dirty rusty metal look I had given some of my other Ork vehicles, so I gave the model a black undercoat. This was then initially given a drybrush of Tin Bitz.

I then gave it a drybrush of Boltgun Metal.

I also used some Blazing Orange to add rusty streaks.

The other side.

You can see the full workbench feature on the Traktor.

Excellent

I really enjoyed the final episode of Doctor Who last night. A real roller-coaster of an episode with lots in it.

David Tennant is still the Doctor, which seemed to surprise a lot of people including me (even thought it shouldn’t have).

Seems obvious that Mickey and Martha are joining Torchwood from the way in which they jaunted off with Captain Jack.

Christmas seems a long way off for the Christmas special and 2010 seems even further off for season five (though there will be four specials in 2009).
Excellent end to season four.

Final episode of Doctor Who

Really looking forward to the final episode of Doctor Who tonight.
I have spent the week avoiding trailers, news items, websites, conversations and any other way in which I might encounter spoilers.

I am even leaving posting this blog post to virtually the last minute (35 minutes to go at the time of writing) so that I can avoid spoilers.

Not long now…

Daleks

Eldar Scorpion Type II

The Scorpion super heavy grav tank is one of the largest vehicles capable of anti-gravatic movement. The Eldar have used the Scorpion to spearhead an all out attack, especially against strongly defended positions where its Pulsars are used to engage enemy bunkers and strong points.

This is the model from the Forgeworld displays at GamesDay 2004.

Capitol Imperialis at the Tank Factory

Back at GamesDay 2001, Carl from Dropship, which alas has not been updated for many years now, put on a most excellent Epic demonstration game with some fantastic models and some fantastic scenery.

One of the key scenery pieces for me was the freight yard, railway track and one of the nice Forge World Tank Factories (which is sadly now long longer available).

In that shot you can also see the very nice (and also not available) Capitol Imperalis.

Sadly this model was never re-released nor was it re-imagined when Epic Armageddon came around (and went again).

I have seen what some people have done on the web, but I do wonder now and again if Forge World will ever release either an Epic or a 40K version or something similar.

More photographs from this demonstration game.

Ork Great Gargant

At GamesDay 2003 there were a lot of Forge World Warhound Titans which has just been released. Amongst all that Imperial heavy armour was this lone Ork Great Gargant.

Ork Great Gargant

This was from Armorcast in the days before Games Workshop took large scale resin models back in house and created Forge World. It was only (in theory) available in the USA and was very difficult if not impossible to get in the UK.

If I could find one, afford one and have the time to paint one, I really would like to get hold of this model, but alas I think everything is against me!

Forge World seem to have no intention of making an Ork Gargant, even with the “green tide” of the new Ork Codex, we have seen very little if any new Ork stuff. There has been a rumour shot of a souped up Ork Trukk…

and some ammo grunts….

Ammo grunts

but apart from those, very little else.

Though I do wonder what else Forge World may be planning…
