1. Flames of War – Battle of the Bulge
Have been painting some more of my Old West gunfighters, Bitter Creek Todd and Bitter Creek Todd.
These are very nice models, full of character and will work for games in the old west. Still some way to go on the painting though.
This is Ned Buck from the VOW232 The Outlaws blister.
Pretty much completed the base coat for this model.
The next stage will be to give the model a a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade.
Here is another of the metal miniatures from Harlequin Miniatures. This is Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart of UNIT. Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was one of the founders of UNIT and commander of its UK operations.
I painted his uniform with Flames of War English Uniform 921.
Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart was born in Scotland, according to dialogue in Terror of the Zygons. He first encounters the Second Doctor in The Web of Fear (1968), when Lethbridge-Stewart is a lieutenant colonel commanding a British Army detachment sent to investigate the Yeti in the London Underground. By his next appearance in The Invasion (1968), he had been promoted to Brigadier and was working with UNIT. When the Doctor was forcibly regenerated and exiled to Earth, Lethbridge-Stewart gave him a position as UNIT’s scientific advisor after he helped defeat the Auton invasion.

Decided I do need to get them finished, soon, so we can have a game with them.
This is the marketing image of the laser-etched MDF Stage Coach from Sarissa Precision.
I was given one for Cbristmas, it comes as a piece of laser-etched MDF and a smaller piece of laser-etched card.
It was very simple to put together, the card components were quite tricky and you need to watch that you don’t bend or crumple the card aspects. I was really impressed with the wheels which though looked quite delicate, were pretty easy to remove from the MDF.
The model I made looks very much like the marketing material and I was impressed with the quality of the kit and the explanatory instructions, which made construction very simple and relatively quick.
It probably could do with a a lick of paint, but even in the raw “wooden” state could be used for games.
For Bolt Action I am in the process of painting some partisans to fight Simon’s Italians. I have been looking for some vehicles, my first choice was the Tamiya 1/48th scale Citroen. Though relatively easy to find online, it is a plastic kit, slightly larger scale-wise for Bolt Action scale models.
What I didn’t realise until recently was that Warlord Games actually make a fair few civilian models for Bolt Action.
Looking through the Bolt Action website I quite liked the look of the Civilian 1000Kg Dropside Truck.
The other civilian vehicles in the French range also look quite useful. In the main I will use them as scenery or as objectives.
As well as my Bolt Action Partisans, I am in the process of building a Commando team to fight alongside them. I am also going to use them as UNIT troops for some Doctor Who scenarios that I have been thinking about.
As well as the plastic boxed set I also have a couple of blisters, a Mortar Team and the Vickers MMG Team.
The 3″ Mortar Team. comes in a blister pack and is made of metal.
They look like nice clean castings.

The first stage will be to construct and base the models, before giving them a white undercoat.
At Reveille, the recent Bristol show I spent a little time looking at the models and talking to the guys at Clockwork Goblin Miniatures about their great 15mm (and 28mm) alternative World War Two figures, walkers and tanks, War Without End.
In the end I bought a single blister, a 15mm US Kodiak Assault Walker, though I was tempted to spend a lot more money at their stall.
It looks like a lovely clean casting and by using 3D computer design, you have a really good sculpt with the sort of lines and shapes you would expect from a factory manufactured vehicle. This is a really nice alternative model for World War Two games and at 15mm perfect for Flames of War.
I am thinking lots of possible scenarios, including using the Kodiak Assault Walker as an objective for a raid behind enemy lines.
The next stage will be putting it all together.
