Imperial Fists Deimos Pattern Vindicator

This Imperial Fists Deimos Pattern Vindicator was on display at Warhammer World.

The Vindicator is a dedicated siege tank, deployed by the Legiones Astartes to breach enemy fortifications and destroy the heaviest enemy vehicles. Slow, ponderous, but heavily armoured, these tanks rumble into range before unleashing a devastating salvo of demolisher shells or piercing bursts of energy from a magna laser destroyer. Vindicators are especially useful in the confined terrain of cities or other enclosed battlefields, where they can smash buildings to broken ruins and forge a path through otherwise impassable obstacles.

I have a Typhon Siege Tank for my Imperial Fists army, so not sure if I need another siege tank. Having said that I do like the Deimos Pattern Vindicator model, so you never know.

Imperial Fists Fellblade Super-Heavy Battle Tank

This Imperial Fists Fellblade Super-Heavy Battle Tank was on display at Warhammer World.

The Fellblade is based on the same Standard Template Construct pattern as Baneblade super-heavy tanks, equipped with advanced weapon and armour systems befitting the Legiones Astartes. This formidable mainline tank employs many technologies restored to humanity by the Great Crusade – from its reinforced metaplas alloy chassis and atomantic arc-reactor to its powerful accelerator cannon and battery of explosive shells.

The Land Raider is regarded by many as the finest armoured fighting vehicle of its class in the Imperium’s arsenal, and is the mainstay battle tank of the Space Marine Legions.

It is a phenomenally powerful war machine, its multi-layered composite armour and reinforced hull all but impervious to even heavy weapons, being a sealed unit designed to resist enemy attack from any approach. Intended to serve in almost any environment as both war machine and exploration vehicle, it can operate freely in war zones ranging from acid swamps to rad-deserts without any noticeable impediment to its performance, and can even operate in hard vacuum, ensuring there is no open battlefield on which its armoured wrath cannot be unleashed.

Those of us who have been playing Warhammer 40K since it was first released will recognise this model. It is of course a new version of the original Land Raider that was released back in 1987 following the release of the 1st edition of Warhammer 40,000, Rogue Trader. Forge World released a resin version a fair few years ago, and since then, a plastic version of the kit has been released as part of The Horus Heresy range.

Imperial Fists Kratos Heavy Assault Tank

This Imperial Fists Kratos Heavy Assault Tank was on display at Warhammer World.

The Kratos Heavy Assault Tank is based on an Ancient Terran pattern fielded during the Unification of Old Earth, redesigned after the Emperor’s treaty with the Lords of Mars to serve as the spearhead of the Great Crusade, a line-breaker and foe hammer. This grinding battle tank is all but impervious to enemy fire, and its steady, inexorable advance provides an indomitable core to any assault by the Legiones Astartes, enforced by a barrage of overwhelming firepower.

Imperial Fists Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

This Imperial Fists Typhon Heavy Siege Tank was on display in the display cabinets at Warhammer World.

Named for the ‘Great Beast’ of Ancient Terran myth, the immense Typhon Heavy Siege Tank was developed by the Mechanicum alongside the Spartan, with which it shares a basic chassis design.

This is the Forge World resin kit which was available before the release of the Horus Heresy plastic kit.

I quite like the weathering of this model.

I have the plastic kit version of the Typhon Heavy Siege Tank on my workbench, which I am painting up as an Imperial Fists Typhon.

I have also posted photographs of the Sons of Horus Typhon Heavy Siege Tank. I think the Sons of Horus model is the plastic kit.

Land Raider in the desert

Here is my Grey Knights Land Raider in the desert.

Originally planned to be a Grey Knights Land Raider, despite the iconography, I decided I would paint it as an Imperial Fists Land Raider

I used the same paint scheme I had used on my Deimos Pattern Rhino. Originally for the basecoat I used Tausept Ochre. After retreiving the model from storage, the first thing I did was spray the underneath of the model with Citadel Zandri Dust. I gave the model a couple of light sprays of Army Painter Daemonic Yellow. I painted the weapon sub-assemblies. added detailing and painted the iconography. Then using various Citadel shades I washed and shaded the model. For the next stage I used some Citadel Layer Yriel Yellow. I took a large brush and gave the model, what I would call, a heavy drybrush. The tracks for the Land Raider were painted, and the iconography was completed with washes and highlights. The finished tracks were then glued to the Land Raider with superglue.

Imperial Fists Predator

This Imperial Fists Predator was on display at Warhammer World.

It makes use of the first plastic Rhino kit. The additional parts are metal, including the sponsons and the turret.

Drybrushing more of the Dreadnought

This Space Marine Dreadnought was one of the models included the Assault on Black Reach boxed set. The Warhammer 40,000 Assault on Black Reach was 5th edition’s “boxed game” or “starter set”. Having constructed the model I then put it away for a while… I got the model out of storage and decided I would paint this up as an Imperial Fists Dreadnought to accompany my new Deimos-pattern Rhino. I gave it a white undercoatusing White Scar spray. The next stage was the base coat and I did consider to either use a yellow spray, or to use the new Imperial Fist contrast paint. In the end I went with the new Imperial Fist contrast paint and I was quite pleased with the end result. I knew that though this looked quite good, it wasn’t quite the effect I wanted, so I shaded most of the model with Reikland Fleshshade Shade. I painted the weaponry and the exhausts on the Dreadnought with Leadbelcher. For the next stage I used some Citadel Layer Yriel Yellow and undertook a heavy drybrush.

I then gave the model a light drybrush of Citadel Layer Dorn Yellow.

Making progress on the Forge World MkIIb Land Raider

The Land Raider is an Imperial main battle tank and troop transport which serves as the “armoured fist of the Space Marines.” The Mark IIb Land Raider Phobos is one of the earliest marks of the standard pattern of Land Raider. The Mark IIb Land Raider Phobos is the only pattern of the standard Land Raider Phobos that uses the older armoured sponsons, as they do not allow the weapons they hold to fully rotate.

I got a Forge World MkIIb Land Raider and was originally painting it up as a Grey Knights Land Raider in desert camouflage. I wrote up some reflections on my MkIIB Land Raider, on the current state of the painting and what I needed to do next. I had a few issues fixing the bolter guard on the top of the superstructure. I eventually managed to glue in the armoured shell. I then touched up the damaged areas with a brush and some fresh paint.

I am still painting up the icongraphy. The front ramp is being painted as stone.

Once that is done I will be shading the model to add depth (and weathering).

Fixing the missing part

The Land Raider is an Imperial main battle tank and troop transport which serves as the “armoured fist of the Space Marines.”The Land Raider’s heritage predates even the founding of the Imperium of Man, yet it remains the single most destructive weapon in the Adeptus Astartes’ arsenal. The Mark IIb Land Raider Phobos is one of the earliest marks of the standard pattern of Land Raider. The Mark IIb Land Raider Phobos is the only pattern of the standard Land Raider Phobos that uses the older armoured sponsons, as they do not allow the weapons they hold to fully rotate.

I got a Forge World MkIIB Land Raider and was originally painting it up as a Grey Knights Land Raider in desert camouflage.

I wrote up some reflections recently on my MkIIB Land Raider, on the current state of the painting and what I needed to do next.

I also noticed that there is a part missing the, the hull top front bolters. I will have to find where I put that piece. Well I was pleased to find the missing parts and these have now been reunited with the Land Raider. They were a set of twin bolters and a armoured shell for the bolters.

At the point though of repainting I didn’t glue in the armoured shell, as I knew I would need to paint the bolters first before affixing the shell.

The model was given a white undercoat and then a new basecoat of Daemonic Yellow spray from Army Painter.

I then painted the twin bolters with Leadbelcher.

When it came to fixing the shell in, I had a bit of trouble fitting it into place. It was a bit of a tight fit.

So much so trying to fit the piece I damaged the paintwork on the armoured shell.
