Forgeworld Epic Ork Gunwagons

I am finishing off some more of my Forgeworld Epic Ork Gunwagons.

In this picture the ink, paint and water wash is still wet.

They have being painted in various shades, one was Snakebite Leather, another Blazing Orange and the other Vermin Brown. I do like the fact they look consistent yet different.

The next stage will be a drybrush in the basecoat to highlight the detail and tone down the wash.

Killa Kans

I often paint my miniatures to what I call a gaming standard (okay to put on the table) and then add detail later (sometimes much later).

I decided it was high time that I added some detailing to my Killa Kans, as they looked a little plain, especially in the missile department. The Rokkits were painted white, then red and then given a wash on ink to gloss them up slightly.

In the main I will be adding some copper and bronze to various metal parts and adding some more Ork glyphs.

Who designed Matchbox figures?

BNF Models did…

When I was much younger I had a lot of plastic Matchbox infantry (both the 1/76th and 1/32nd version) which I thought were done very well.

I have now found out that the masters for these were done by Bill Farmer (BNF Models) who has a website.

This is something I like about the internet, you can find things out that would be really difficult or impossible by any other means.

It also means you can find out what other stuff he sculptured.

ForgeWorld Newsletter #128

The Keeper of Secrets
Finished just in time to make an appearance at Games Day UK, Daniel Cockersell’s Greater Daemon of Slaanesh is a truly wonderful piece of work. Based on a concept sketch by Dave Gallagher, Daniel has made a model that captures what I see as the very essence of Slaanesh. The Keeper of Secrets manages to be both beautiful and terrible at the same time. The model shows grace and elegance yet is adorned by spikes, horns and massive claws! The model stands an impressive 165mm/6.5inches tall and is made up from over 80 individual pieces. This lovely new model is available to pre-order on the Forge World online store for release from Monday October 24th. If we are very lucky, we may even have a few pre-release Keeper of Secrets available to buy at Games Day too.

New Warhammer Giant
Over the past few weeks Mark Bedford re-visited our Warhammer Giant. The idea was to make the Giant a bit more brutal and beast-like so with a small, thick browed head and funny numbers of fingers and toes yes, Mark has made the Giant a shambling, drooling monster, but a very dangerous one. Wielding the complete arm and counterweight from a trebuchet as a club, this new Giant still measures in at a healthy 215mm/8.5inches tall, more than enough height to dominate the battlefield and take pride of place among your army. With the Giant now fitting on a special 50mm x 100mm ‘chariot’ base the model is easier to use in games of Warhammer. Again, if we are very lucky, we hope to have some pre-release Giants for sale at Games Day UK next weekend. But of course he is available to pre-order right now on the Forge World online store for release from Monday October 24th.

Imperial Armour Update 2005
Released next week and available at Games Day UK, ‘Imperial Armour Update 2005’ is the brand new 48 page rules guide for Warhammer 40,000 from Forge World. On the link below you can see the front cover so you know what to look for, the list of contents so you know what’s in there, and a couple of example pages. I know that the rules for all our Tyranid creatures have been completely brought up to date and in line with the new Codex and that complete rules for both the Imperial Warhound and Eldar Revenant Titans are in there too.

Pictures from an old Epic battle report

I have lots of pictures on my website which cover a range of different eras, ranges and scales.

It can be quite difficult to find what you might find interesting (and as a webmaster it is quite difficult to decide where to put things). I do have a few battle reports on my website which are quite different to the photographs I usually take, but show a series of photographs from a game.

These pictures are an example of one of my Epic battle reports.

Here Ork fighters attack a detachment of Imperial Baneblade super heavy tanks.

Here an Ork Gargant and a motorised Ork detachment advance.

More pictures from the report here.

Dad’s Army

Dad’s Army defending Lyddle End from the invading German forces, circa 1940…

Many years ago I bought a bundle of Dad’s Army and German forces in 15mm for playing Operation Sealion games. I painted some, but most have spent a lot of time unprimed and unpainted.

Having recently read a few books recently which have rekindled my interest in Operation Sealion. These have included Collaborator by Murray Davies which is set in a nazi occupied Britain and tells the story of a British soldier working for the occupying forces as a translator who then gets involved in the resistance…

Real history books which have also inspired included Berlin The Downfall 1945 by Antony Beevor, the author of Stalingrad. and The Model Occupation: The Channel Islands Under German Rule, 1940-1945.

The Leader by Guy Walters though not an Operation Sealion alternative history, also provided inspiration.

This picture shows one of my Dad’s Army vehicles which I have repainted, It is set with some N Gauge scenery from the Lyddle End Hornby range.

Home Guard Standard Beaverette
Home Guard Standard Beaverette

The N Gauge models are out of scale, 1/148th compared to the 1/100th scale of 15mm World War Two. I also want to use the buildings with Warmaster figures as well.
