Grey Knights Razorback basecoat

If you have looked at my Grey Knights Landspeeder you will realise that I am attempting to paint a Grey Knights force which goes beyond the listings in the DaemonHunters Codex. What I am trying to do is to create a Grey Knights force (using the Space Marine Codex) and then using a DaemonHunters force as allies.

Having constructed my Razorback and added Grey Knights iconography I gave the model a black undercoat. The next stage was the basecoat and for that I am using the Tausept Ochre Foundation Paint as a basecoat. So why is it brown? I blogged about this back in 2007.

The next stage will be adding more of the basecoat.

Grey Knights Dreadnought Weapons

An excellent birthday present I got, was a Grey Knights Dreadnought from Forgeworld. This is a fantastically detailed model, with lots of engravings, purity seals

The only thing missing are the arms???

Originally I wasn’t sure whether to go for the Grey Knights arms, or make as Mortis version… Yes I know the fluff doesn’t support Grey Knights Mortis pattern dreadnoughts, but when have I ever been one for following fluff to the letter… oh me the heretic!

In the end I decided on a Mortis pattern, with a Psycannon and twin Lascannons.

The Mk IV from Forgeworld is a really nice model, and when you look at the Venerable Dreadnought from the main Games Workshop, you wonder why they didn’t just copy the Forgeworld model.

The GW model looks clunky and as though the venerable components were just stuck on, whereas with the Forgeworld model the detailing is part of the model.

Not sure why I used a white undercoat!

Inquisitorial Stormtroopers

With my Inquisitorial Stormtroopers I was giving them a desert feel I knew I was going to use sand, but also wanted some rocks as well, so I used some slate from the Warhammer 40K Urban Basing Kit. Having added the rocks I then using PVA (white glue) flocked the based with some Games Workshop sand. I do like the sand which has some small larger pieces of gravel, which adds a lot of nice texture. Once dry I then painted the bases Bestial Brown and drybrushed them with Bleached Bone.

Grey Knights Land Speeder Crew

Having worked a lot of my Grey Knights Land Speeder, one of the key components is the replacement crew. I could have used the included plastic Space Marine crew, but in the end I used some metal Grey Knights models. I started with a black basecoat and then gave the armour a basecoat of Boltgun Metal. This was followed with the gold metal parts been given a base coat of Brazen Brass.

After painting the base coats for the purity seals and other iconology on the Grey Knights, I gave the purity seals a top coat of Bleached Bone and highlighted with white paint. I then added text and writing using a fine brush and thinned black paint.

Inquisitorial Stormtroopers – Tallarn

As well as my other Daemonhunters Inquisitorial Stormtroopers which are based on the Cadian Kasrkin I have also decided to add a unit based on the Tallarn or I may just use them as inducted Imperial Guard.

Having given the models a white undercoat, I then gave the models a basecoat of Desert Yellow. This was followed by a wash consisting of Chestnut Ink, Scorched Brown paint (which helps remove the gloss of the ink) and some water to thin the wash down. The models were then drybrushed with a lighter brown to extenuate the detail. The headscarves were picked out with Bleached Bone and highlighted with white paint.

Black Templar Cenobyte with Relic

I have always liked this model, but wasn’t sure a) where it came from, b) what it was called, so I could never find it in the stores or on the online store.

It was only recently when reading through an old White Dwarf that I saw it was part of the Black Templars Chaplain Grimaldus and Retinue Boxed Set.

So now I knew which boxed set it came from, I could work out what it was called and find it in the online store. It is available either as part of a boxed set or individually. As I wasn’t too bothered about the other miniatures in the boxed set I purchased it individually through Mail Order.

I will be using it as part of my Inquisitorial retinue.

Having cleaned the model and basing it with GW modelling sand, I gave the model a white undercoat. I then painted the relic with black paint. I am intending for it to look like grey stone.

Black Templar Cenobyte with Relic

Mark IIb Land Raider

Having given my Mark IIb Land Raider a black undercoat, it needed a second coat.

This is to be a Grey Knights Land Raider, though I may use it now and again as an Inquisitor transport. Next stage will be the basecoat.

Grey Knight Librarian

The greatest threat to the Imperium of Man is, and has always been, the followers of Chaos and the foul daemons of the Warp. The Inquisitors of the Ordo Malleus, the Daemonhunters, are at war with forces too terrible to comprehend and, together with the holy warriors of the Grey Knights, they must take the light of the Emperor into the darkness. The threat of the daemonic is so great that only these heroic warriors have the necessary skills and knowledge to stand against such diabolical foes.

I am slowly building up my Grey Knights army.

I purchased the new Space Marine Librarian in Terminator armour as I really do like the model and for me will certainly fit into my Grey Knights army with all the books and purity seals. Obviously it is quite expensive for a single model, but then when has Games Workshop ever made “cheap” models.

Nice model and nice that all the weapon options are included. The model comprises three castings, once I had put these together I gave the model a black undercoat.

A very ornate model, will be fun to paint.

Grey Knights Jetbike

When the Dark Angels were released I really liked the Master of the Ravenwing on the “last” remaining Imperial Jetbike.

Master Sammael of the Ravenwing is a true Angel of Death. From the saddle of his jetbike he cuts down any foolish enough to stand in his path with the infamous Raven Sword, its blade cut from the same meteorite as the Sword of Secrets. A highly accomplished hunter of The Fallen, Sammael is rightly honoured by his brethren and he is feared by his foes as few other holders of his rank have ever been.

So much so I knew I had to get one for my Grey Knights army, possibly maybe more than one! If anyone other than the Master of the Ravenwing was going to have arcane technology it would be the Grey Knights!
