…and the new Doctor Who is…

And the new Doctor Who is…

Well…

Doctor Who

Matt Smith.

Who?

Exactly.

The eleventh Doctor has been named, and it will be played by 26 year old Matt Smith, pretty much an unknown actor.

Not sure about this. He is younger than Peter Davison, but only by a couple of years.

Well. we’re going to have to wait now until Spring 2010 to see how it works out (and work out it might).

PSP Games

I was lucky enough to get two games for my Sony PSP for Christmas. I got Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command and Gripshift.

Squad Command is a strategy based game which will be very familar to those who play the Warhammer 40000.

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command marks the first time that the brutal, war-ravaged world of Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe will be playable on the PSP. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command features fast, action-packed combat through turn-based strategy and an engaging, authentic single-player storyline. Gamers play as the elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and strive to combat the encroaching evil of the ruthless and daemonic influenced Chaos Space Marines through 13 cinematically-tied missions. With a robust multiplayer mode featuring 9 unique missions, gamers will team up and go head-to-head with other gamers worldwide as either the Imperium of Man or Chaos Space Marines, ensuring hours of unique replayability. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command will also fully utilize all the portable functionality of the PSP and Nintendo DS, including the dual-screen and stylus, bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to life on handheld.

For those looking for an action game you would be better off looking elsewhere. I am enjoying the game and find it tactically stimulating.Gripshift is a different game altogether, a driving puzzle game which I am also enjoying. Basically there are various tracks which you drive over.

GripShift is the first video game for the PSP portable entertainment system to combine high-flying stunt driving and unique puzzle-solving action in an all-out, pedal-to-the-metal driving experience.

Players race as one of six unique characters in supped-up vehicles as they stunt their way through insane twisting levels while collecting power-ups, avoiding traps, beating the clock and challenging friends.Featuring enhanced aerial physics with an intuitive control system, players perform awesome aerial jumps for massive hang time in puzzle-like driving challenges with multiple routes, short-cuts, loops, jumps and power ups. Compete in single player race mode against the CPU, or enjoy multiplayer action with your friends in head-to-head wireless multiplayer. Create and design custom levels to share with your friends or play in one of eight bonus games for outrageous fun. It’s an original break-thru combination of stunt driving, platform action and puzzle solving, designed exclusively for the PSP system.

Mark IIb Land Raider

I have undercoated my Mark IIb Land Raider with a black undercoat.

This is to be a Grey Knights Land Raider, though I may use it now and again as an Inquisitor transport. As you can see from this shot though, the undercoat didn’t really cover the front, so I might need to give it another coat.

Next stage will be the basecoat.

Full workbench feature on the Mark IIb Land Raider.

No one told me…

Having started painting some Old West miniatures, I started to think about scenery. I remembered from years ago that Snapdragon Studio made some Old West Scenery. So let’s “Google” them. I did find them and found their wonderful Old West buldings, however I was also pleasantly surprised to see that Snapdragon had started to sell some of their 1/300th SF range again.

I was always a fan of  their buildings and have quite a few in my collection including this bunker.

Snapdragon Studio Bunker

Simon has one as well.

Snapdragon Studio Bunker

My Epic battle reports shows many of their buildings off (there are some Forge World ones in the reports as well).

Time to think about which buildings I am going to buy.

Old West Outlaws

I was lucky enough to get for Christmas two packs of Foundry Old West Outlaws (thank you Simon).

Old West Outlaws

There twelve miniatures in total, which should be more than enough for some Old West games.

Old West RulesI shall be using the Legends of the Old West Warhammer Historical rules which I purchased when I was at GamesDay 2008.

A tabletop miniatures game which allows you to bring to life the deeds of the brave lawmen and gunfighters of the most famous period in America’s history. This lavish, full-colour manual contains all the rules you need to gather your posse and play games set on the harsh American frontier. Within you will find eight action-packed scenarios, and a campaign system that allows you to develop your fighters into hard-bitten heroes and villains of the Old West.

Fight alongside some of the deadliest figures of Western legend – such as Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp. Rob a stagecoach with the James gang, or try to out-draw Wild Bill Hickock. Grab your sixgun, saddle your mustang and prepare to take part in the wildest adventure of them all!

First stage will be to base them and then give them an undercoat.
