Primarch Angron

The final big reveal from Forge World for Games Day 2012 was the first of a series of Primarch models, Primarch Angron.

Primarch Angron

The most bloody-handed and savage of the Emperor’s gene-forged sons is the Primarch Angron, whose legendary reputation in battle has earned him the title of The Undefeated amongst his brothers. Cast in his youth upon a world of brutal oppression, he was enslaved and surgically mutilated to become a gladiator in its games of death, eventually becoming the undefeated lord of the red sands, a killer without peer.

When he rebelled against his brutal overlords, the Emperor saved Angron from certain death alongside his loyal followers, an act Angron has never forgiven the Emperor for. It is little surprise then that when his brother Primarch Horus turned against the Emperor that Angron was quick to side with the traitorous Warmaster; his only true master though was ever his rage and bloodlust.

Not a great fan of chaos anyway and that’s a very big base!

Fellblade Super Heavy Tank

If you had a love for the Epic super heavy tanks from the Space Marine era (ie before Epic 40K) then you will love the new Fellblade Super Heavy Tank from Forge World.

Space Marine Fellblade Super-heavy Tank

Based upon the same STC data as the Baneblade and Deathhammer super-heavy tanks, which are a mainstay of the vast brigades of the Imperial Army, the Fellblade is a more advanced variant that first saw widespread service with the Legiones Astartes in the last decades of the Great Crusade.

It is most noted for its use of Mechanicum atomantic arc-reactor technology and a reinforced metaplas alloy chassis superior even to that of the Baneblade, alongside an advanced accelerator cannon as its primary armament. These systems are all fruits of Dark Age technologies rediscovered and restored to humanity shortly before the nightmare of the Great Heresy.

I do quite like this model and certainly reminds me of the early days of Warhammer 40K. It would certainly fit in with the other retro models that Forge World have produced.

Now wondering what else Forge World will show off before the big Games Day event on Sunday. Alas I can’t make the event this year, confused my dates and didn’t get a ticket in time. Maybe next year…

Oh, by the way, anyone know what the Deathhammer super heavy tank is?

Realm of Battle Cityscape Tiles

I see from the Forge World previews for GamesDay 2012 that they are going to be releasing a range of scenery tiles compatible with the Realm of Battle tiles.
Realm of Battle Cityscape Tiles

In a galaxy beset by war, Imperial architecture is by necessity brutal and fortified. Should the Alien, the Traitor or the Heretic attempt to assault an Imperial world, more often than not it is the great cities of humanity that become battlegrounds; open plazas turning into killing grounds while shattered hab-blocks and ruined Administratum complexes become garrisoned redoubts. The humble tools of civilian infrastructure are transformed into key objectives, with generatorum waypoints becoming vital sources of power and sewer networks being pressed into service as guerrilla highways and concealed ambush points

Forge World scenery designer Blake Spence has been hard at work over the past few months creating four modular Realm of Battle Cityscape tiles. Each is light weight and durable thanks to the hollow resin method we use, and each 2′ x 2′ (610 mm x 610 mm) tile is a blank canvas which is fully compatible with your plastic Citadel scenery.

The Shattered Plaza, Generatorum Sector, Primus Sector and Concourse Sector will each be on sale in limited numbers for the first time at UK Games Day, in advance of their scheduled release.

At £75 each it would mean about £450 for a 6′ x 4′ table which is a fair whack of cash for scenery. I guess you could get away with four (or fewer) if you already have the plastic Realm of Battle. I do like these and are what the original plastic tiles should have been like (in my opinion).

Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

Space Marine Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

I see from the Forge World previews for GamesDay 2012 that they are going to be releasing a new tank based on the original Land Raider.

Space Marine Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

The Typhon Heavy Siege Tank was named after the ‘Great Beast’ of Ancient Terran myth, this immense siege tank was developed by the Mechanicum alongside the Spartan, with which it shares a basic chassis design.

The Typhon’s primary armament is the massive Dreadhammer cannon, and was created in response to a request from the Primarch Peturabo, master of the Iron Warriors. He demanded a Legiones Astartes war engine that could rival the great batteries of the Imperial Crusade Army in firepower, but manoeuvre and deploy at the speed of a Space Marine force.

Very nice looking tank.

Scimitar Pattern Space Marine Legion Jetbike

I see from the Forge World previews for GamesDay 2012 that they are going to be releasing some Space Marine jetbikes.

They do look interesting models, but I am not sure if I like them.
Scimitar Pattern Space Marine Legion Jetbike
They seem more like space ship models than bikes.
What do you think?

Epic Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought

Here are some plastic The Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts.

Epic Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought

I actually used them as robots, mainly as they didn’t look anything like dreadnoughts!

The Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought was once a mainstay of the armoured might of the Astartes Legions of old. Larger and stronger than standard pattern Dreadnoughts, the Contemptor’s systems featured many examples of techno-arcana steeped in the sacred mysteries of the Legio Cybernetica. Some chapters still boast these war relics amongst their ranks, and whenever the Contemptor takes to the field of battle, it is an echo of the power of ancient days.

Though they first appeared in Epic, Forge World have recently released a 28mm resin version.

New Forge World Deimos Predator Executioner

Forge World have released another retro Predator model, this time the Executioner.

Forge World Deimos Predator Executioner
Forge World Deimos Predator Executioner

One of the most prized, and almost lost, Predator tank patterns is the Deimos Pattern Predator Executioner, which mounts a rare Executioner-pattern Plasma Destroyer. This ancient and powerful weapon fires a series of sun-hot plasma blasts capable of incinerating flesh and blasting apart even power armour with contemptuous ease. Only the forge world of Ryza is still able to manufacture the advanced photo-plasmic cells needed for the Executioner weapon, so many chapters whose Techmarines have sufficient skill and knowledge replace the Plasma Cannon with a Heavy Conversion Beamer.

This turns the Predator Executioner into an extremely powerful siege unit and long-range tank destroyer, but this firepower is gained at the cost of manoeuvrability and increased vulnerability to short-ranged attacks. That such a modification carries a long-standing seal of remittance from the Adeptus Mechanicus speaks of cataclysmic battles in a forgotten age, in which such devastating firepower was more common, and more necessary.

I quite like the retro theme that Forge World are going through, certainly taking me back to when I started playing Warhammer 40K twenty five years ago when it was first released. Back then I didn’t really have the money to buy lots of models, whereas now I don’t really have the time to paint lots of models….

Quite hope that they start thinking about doing some retro Ork stuff, it would be really nice to see Forge World updated versions of the Ork Dreadnought, the War Buggy and the War bikes.

Thunderer Siege Tank

When the advanced technology of the Tank Hunters’s Laser Destroyer malfunctions, or is damaged in battle the Adeptus Mechanicus often re-gun the the Tank Hunter with a different weapon. A common converison is to replace the damaged Laser Destroyer with a Demolisher cannon, to fill the role of the Demolisher.
