25 Years of Warhammer 40000

Warhammer 40000 is 25 years old.

…and yes I did buy Rogue Trader when it came out 25 years ago, I am that old!

I did buy the plastic Space Marines, but much preferred the concept of Space Orks so when that boxed set came out I got that.

There were some great models back in that day including this superb Ork Buggy, remember these.

Ork Buggy

So what was your favourite model of the last 25 years.

French Heavy Artillery Battery

This is a boxed set with parts to make four four 105/155mm C mle 1917 S guns with crew, Observer Rifle team, a Staff team and a Command Rifle team.

I glued the crew and other sections to wooden sticks to make them easier to paint.

French Heavy Artillery Battery Crew

There are five crew for each gun.

You also get a couple of prone infantry to use as the Observer Rifle team. These I based directly on the FoW plastic base.

Crossover

Looks like there is going to be a Doctor Who/Star Trek TNG crossover comic.

There were rumours that there may have been an actual episode crossover between a RTD Doctor Who episode and Enterprise, but after Enterprise was cancelled, this of course all fell apart…

So is this a step too far? Or are you looking forward to it?

Playing the game

Here are some photographs of a Flames of War game using my not quite finished, or not nearly finished German and British forces.

They are the opening shots of a game of Flames of War. Alas the models were only painted to a “basecoat” standard, normally I wouldn’t play a game with “unpainted” tanks, but still have some way to go with the models and we are still working out how to play the rules. The game consisted of a German armoured column being ambushed by British armour.

The few buildings were some Hovels’ ruins and some Hornby N Gauge buildings.

Epic Ship

Gamecraft who make some really nice scenery and models have just released their first 1/285th scale model ship, the USS Independence.

This model is nearly 18″ long and is made from resin. This futuristic ship of the US Navy certainly has potential for modern gaming scenarios, but I also think as such a futuristic looking ship as this it could be used for Epic, the Warhammer 40K game in 1/285th. It looks like it could have been “built” by the Imperial Guard. It costs $80 but at the moment is on an introductory offer of $65.

Basecoating the Flames of War Dingo

The Daimler Scout Car, known in service as the “Dingo” (after the Australian wild dog), was a British light fast 4WD reconnaissance vehicle also used in the liaison role during the Second World War.

The Flames of War blister comes with three of them. I gave the vehicles and the crew a white undercoat, I then gave them a basecoat of Warpaint British Armour.

The crew were given a basecoat of English Uniform (921).
