Fighting Withdrawal

New Warhammer 40K battle report added to website…

This was an interesting game. Simon had just finished his 40K scale Forgeworld Valkyrie and wanted to use it in a game. Knowing his “luck” I expected that the Valkyrie would fly in and one of my grots would take a shot and shoot it down… at which point Simon would be slightly annoyed!

Therefore I created this scenario which has forty Imperial Guard, with Heavy Weapons, a Tarantula Sentry Gun but no tanks. They would be dug into one end of the table and their objective was to get at least twenty troops off the table.

They would be taken off table by a flight of Valkyries that would fly in, strafe the Orks before landing, allowing the Imperial Guard to embark and fly off.

My Orks job to stop all this!

See the report.

Feral Ork Boar Rider

As you may recall from a previous posting I am in the process of making some Feral Ork Boar Boyz using parts from the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Orc Warriors and the 40K Ork Boyz sprues.

Here is a picture of the newly constructed model.

I may add some reins and add a few other features.

I have avoided using the regular rectangular base and opted for the 40mm round base.

Ork Objectives

Still looking for ideas…

Out there quite a few people are building objectives for games of Epic Armageddon, a good example of this is the Dropship website.

I have decided to make some Ork objectives, so far I have started on a watchtower and am aiming to make a few more such as a crashed spaceship, a large Krooz Missile, a junk heap, and a Gargant (half-made or semi-destroyed – is there a difference).

Warhammer 40000 Annual

Well I needed the Feral Ork rules…

Anyone who checks out my workbench, will realise that I am making up some Feral Orks.

However the main rules, Codex Orks do not contain the rules, originally published in White Dwarf, the Feral Ork rules (now revised) have been published in the Warhammer 40K Annual 2004.

It is nicely put together, but is as you expect it’s just a re-print of the WD articles, but they have been revised…

Battle Report

Well it would have been if the camera battery hadn’t failed

I was hoping to bring you a photographic battle report between Orks and Imperial Guard, however it seems that my digital camera has a faulty battery and thus “failed”.

You can see some of the pictures I took here.

The game went really well (for the Orks) but it was close. We played the Take and Hold scenario and after six turns a single grot and a few Orks held the objective.

It was the first opportunity for my Ork Grot Bomb Launcha on the battlefield and it failed miserably “bouncing” off the frontal armour plate of an Imperial Chimera.

My opponent put on his Medusa which was rather nasty…

Forgeworld Ork Gunwagon Conversions

Even though I had stuck all my Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons together and undercoated them, I have now decided that I want to use some of the excellent weapons on some Squiggoths!

I managed to get a Kannon and a Lobba off the models (well I did manage to “break” another Lobba, but glued it back into position).

With the two empty Gunwagons, with one I have added a buggy gunner and the other is going to get a Pulsa Rokkitt.

Finally got my copy…

But it’s not as though I was over eager really…

Well I finally managed to get a copy of the Epic Armageddon rulebook…

This sounds like I was desperate to get a copy and that I had searched high and low! Well the reality was when the rulebook came out I did try and get a copy, but my local GW had none in stock (allegedly they had sold them to all the staff). I know I could have purchased a copy by Mail Order, but when I did my last GW Mail Order I got some fantasy orcs instead!

Today I popped into one of my local GW stores and they had a few copies, so I thought oh go on get a copy, so I did.

It is really really nicely put together and I was impressed.

What was also nice was that I was only charged £20 (rather than the list price of £25).

The manager complained as too many people were buying it and he was having to order more copies!

A friend of mine (in a different GW store) was initially charged £40, then £60 came up on the till before eventully he was charged £20 also!

Next phase of miniatures released

Online store and White Dwarf has details of the new models…

The Games Workshop Online Store now has details of the next phase of Epic Armageddon miniatures.

They consist of Space Marines, Imperial Guard and Orks. Some are obviously re-releases of the older Epic40K models, but there are new models as well.

My favourite is the Ork Battle Fortress, however it does look better in White Dwarf then it does in the online store… even though it is the same picture!

Another nice model are the new Space Marine Bikes which are based on the Epic40K attack bike (which was based on the 40K scale model) as opposed to the original smooth streamlined plastic models.

Pricing is somewhat as expected but some models seem to be same price as Epic40K and others are much much higher and in some cases cheaper!
