Games Workshop Epic Scenery

Seeing this image recently from an old White Dwarf.

It reminded me how good GW epic scale custom made scenery was. The Dwarf and the (older) rule books were full of these kind of pictures. Which is why I wish the Epic Armageddon book had being full of these kind of pictures (or even these pictures) rather than the (cartoony) artwork from the collectable card game.

Guntrukks on Patrol

Those of you familar with my website may have already seen the page devoted to the Kult of Speed.

I have decided to add some more forces but using the paint scheme that I am using for my other Ork variant armies.

I am also intending to look back on some of the miniatures I have done and either add some detailing or even re-wash some.

To give you an idea here are some Ork Guntrukks I did a year or two back. This is a photograph of some Ork Guntrukks on patrol.

Ork Trukks with Gunners
Ork Trukks with Gunners

They are simple E40K Flakwagons with Ork Buggy Gunners and Imperial Guard Dozer Blades. They have used a pure ink wash which is why they are slightly shiny, whereas with my more recent painting I have used an ink/paint combination wash which reduces or eliminates the shine.

I am sure that I have shown these before.

I might now give them a new wash.

These models also show why I like the older lots of parts E40K models over the newer single casting Epic Armageddon models.

These models take parts from three models something which would be difficult to do with the current offerings from Specialist Games.

I do realise that the multi-part aspect of the older models made it difficult to build them, but it certainly made them easier for conversions and new models.

Ork Looted Rhino

There are Orks who have looted Imperial weaponry. Not only can they use Space Marine weapons they can also borrow the transport option… Check out how I am painted the Lootaz. The starting point for the Looted Rhino was a Chaos Rhino.

I then spent some time looking on the web for other Looted Rhinos. An obvious model to look at was the Forgeworld Looted Rhino.

This conversion kit contains quite a few resin pieces which replace substantial parts of the original plastic kit.

This includes new doors, a new front panel and additions to the engine panels and exhausts. Forgeworld also had another Looted Rhino on their GamesDay display.

This conversion had a death roller and various Orky panels as well as a Big Shoota and grenade launchaz.

I have been looking on the web to see how other people have been converting Rhino’s for use as an Ork Looted Rhino.

One such (now defunct) site is Scarpia’s Warhammer World which has an article on how to convert a Rhino into a looted Ork version.

Though I do think this is a nice model, it still looks too Imperial for my liking.

Having taken on all these various versions I decided on a particular course of action. I would redo the side doors, the front panel, the rear door. I would also redo the top door and try and make a variant or two which could jsut slot into place. I wouldn’t have a roller, but would use one of the Chaos spikey front ends. I decided to use the Chaos Havoc Launcher with a Killa Kan and use the supplied Burna with the Rhino.
