Undercoating the Snotlings

I’ve always liked snotlings, the snotling pump wagon is probably my favourite model of all time. On a recent visit to Warhammer World I picked up a box of snotlings. The box contains 28 individual metal snotling miniatures, which fill four bases to create mobs. There are some wonderful characters in the collection.

The first stage was cleaning the metal castings. I decided I would paint them on the casting sprue and then attach then to the bases.

I used some wooden pegs to hold the castings and make them easier to manage when painting and when drying.

I gave all the models a white undercoat using a Citadel White Spray.

The next stage will be to base coat them, I think I will use a contrast paint on these models.

The first stage was cleaning the metal castings. I think I will paint them on the casting sprue and then attach then to the bases.

I decided to use wooden pegs to make them easier to paint (and to remain standing when the paint was wet).

I am thinking of getting some more to use on my Warhammer 40K Ork vehicles, but will paint these ones first.

Bloodbowl Snotlings

Revealed today the newest team for Bloodbowl…

It’s Snotlings.

Of course Bloodbowl is a game based in a fantasy setting, but didn’t mean I didn’t start thinking about other possibilities as reinforcements for my Warhammer 40K Grot army.

I was always a fan of the old Snotling Pump Wagon and I do quite like this new one.

It has a lot of character and with a little conversion could work in a Warhammer 40K setting. I have been painting a few Snotlings as additions to my Ork vehicles, as well as Grot tanks, so this wouldn’t be too much out of place. Even the players look like they will be useful.

It was originally published in 1992, that’s quite some time ago. At this time I had “gone off” Warhammer but it had become, for me, looking slightly silly and the models appeared to be “unrealistic”. Come on how realistic are snotlings in the first place… I think a contributing factor as well was that Games Workshop were getting quite “strict” about their games, and the creativity we had seen in the earlier days was getting lost to “follow the army list to the letter”. I liked having fun, I think you can still have fun with games, but the models still need to look good.

Snotling Pump Wagons

One of my favourite models of all time is the Snotling Pump Wagon, not the new montrosity, but the original one from Citadel. What I liked about it most was the humour behind the model, you got the idea that the designer was down the pub when the idea came up.

The model initially came as a single decker with an expansion pack providing the top deck if needed. In later years the complete model was made available as a single kit.
