Contrasting the Space Marine Dreadnought

This Space Marine Dreadnought was one of the models included the Assault on Black Reach boxed set. The Warhammer 40,000 Assault on Black Reach was 5th edition’s “boxed game” or “starter set”.

Having constructed the model I then put it away for a while…

I got the model out of storage and decided I would paint this up as an Imperial Fists Dreadnought to accompany my new Deimos-pattern Rhino.

I gave it a white undercoat using White Scar spray.

The next stage was the base coat and I did consider to either use a yellow spray, or to use the new Imperial Fist contrast paint.

In the end I went with the new Imperial Fist contrast paint and I was quite pleased with the end result.

I think for the next stage I will now shade some of the mechanics of the Dreadnought.

Legiones Astartes Imperial Fists

Having painted my Deimos-pattern Rhino in Imperial Fists colours,  decided that I would probably need some Space Marines as well. As it happens I have some Space Marines from the various Warhammer 40k boxed sets I have bought over the years.

The plan was to try out some paint schemes.

They are relatively easy to put together.

The first attempt was not successful.

I had given the model a white undercoat and then a yellow spray, but the spray was too heavy. Still I tried a wash and then realised I would need to start again…

So onto the next model.

I gave the model a white undercoat using a White Scar spray.

I then base coated the model using the new Imperial Fist contrast paint.

I think the next stage will be detailing the weaponry and other non-yellow parts of the model. Though probably a drybrush first, perhaps.

Space Marine Dreadnought

A Dreadnought is piloted by a mighty warrior who has been saved from death by his internment within its armoured sarcophagus. In this way the warrior can continue to vanquish the foes of the Emperor for many centuries, or even millennia.

Spearheading the assaults of the Space Marines, Dreadnoughts are feared by all foes of the Imperium. On the battlefield they are death incarnate, with powerful weapons blasting their foes and lethal close combat weaponry crackling with deadly energies. There are few opponents in the galaxy who can stand against such armoured savagery.

Got some supplies in

After my Mechanicus Standard Grey spray had run out, whilst spraying some ruins, I went to my local FLGS to get a replacement. Whilst there I also picked up a can of White Scar, as my Corax White had also run out. I decided that I would try out the new Contrast Imperial Fist paint as well. I will use it on some old plastic Space Marines I have from old Warhammer 40K boxed sets to accompany my Deimos-pattern Rhino.

What kind of Legion Deimos Pattern Rhino?

Having pre-ordered the Horus Heresy Deimos Pattern Rhino though I don’t pick it up until next week I have been thinking about how to paint it.

When I ordered it I did think initially about following the paint scheme on my other Imperial armoured vehicles, which is a desert brown colour.

Reflecting on my purchase I did think if I should follow one of the original Rhino colour schemes. Or even paint it as an Imperial Guard Rhino.

Then I thought about going or legit on the fluff and actually paint it as a Legion Rhino, if so which Legion? Well I do like the Imperial Fists colour scheme (as seen here on this Golden Demon winning entry of the “modern” Rhino).

Decisions, decisions.

Imperial Fists Astraeus Super-Heavy Tank

The Astraeus is a symbol of the Imperium’s might, unbowed by the dawning of a bloody new millennium and unbroken by the onslaught of its foes.

This Imperial Fists Astraeus was part of the Assault on Zybos diorama at Warhammer World.

The industrial world of Zybos has fallen to the Black Legion. Now it’s massive foundries produce countless foul Daemon Engines. The Imperial Fists have declared that they will purge this corrupted world and destroy all traces of these hideous creations.

The Astraeus is a super-heavy tank, similar in form to the smaller Repulsor transport in use by the newly created Primaris Space Marines. It mounts a formidable array of weapons, designed around a pair of immense macro-accelerator cannon. Providing a stable firing platform for these temperamental weapons are banks of enhanced repulsor plates, allowing the inexorable advance of the Astraeus to continue unhindered by hostile terrain or the vain defiance of the foe, while its layered void shields can shrug off even the most devastating weapon strikes.

This diorama was originally built for the Warhammer 40000 Apocalypse Book and featured Ultramarines.

When it was moved to Warhammer World, it was extended by the team and the Ultramarines replaced by the Imperial Fists.

Primaris Repulsor

The Repulsor is an Imperial anti-gravitic main battle tank intended to provide armoured support for the Primaris Space Marines of many different Chapters.

Achilles-Alpha Pattern Land Raider

The Achilles-Alpha pattern Land Raider is the most durable vehicle currently in the service of the Legiones Astartes.  This is the version on display at Warhammer World.

These vehicles shrug off weapon strikes that would cripple other battle tanks, and are proof against even the most toxic environment.

The weaponry of these vehicles is formidable, featuring an advanced quad launcher and powerful volkite batteries.
