Ork Mega Dread

One of the highlights of GamesDay 2009 for me was the fantastic Ork Shanty Town display that Forge World did. There were many of the new Forge World models including the excellent Mega Dread.

I really like this model, which combined with Killa Kans and Dreadnoughts gives the Orks a variety of walkers that you would expect to find in their forces. Mine is well under way and I used it (in an undercoated state) in a recent game.

More on the Ork Battlewagon

Having made the chassis, the next stage was adding the superstructure.

Still kept the model separate for painting purposes.

Another view.

This is how it looks with the provided turret, though I have decided not to use the turret with the model.

Though in the above photographs it looks like the wheels and tracks are fixed, I kept them unstuck so that the model would be easier to paint.

Victory of the Daleks

Fair bit of interest following my posting of the Doctor Who trailer and the World War Two British Army Dalek.

Well here’s a picture of another!

ww2dalek001

They appear in the third episode to be broadcast on the 17th April entitled Victory of the Daleks.

Not going to post any other information that I have (accidently) seen, as I don’t like spoilers. This though looks like it could be a fun episode and certainly one with plenty of gaming potential.

Return of the Sea Devils – Doctor Who

I really enjoyed the first episode of the new season of Doctor Who.

An enjoyable romp with time travel, aliens, a threat to the Earth and regeneration issues.

I had my reservations about Matt Smith and Steven Moffat taking over the lead role and executive productor respectively. However I think my reservations were unwarranted. An excellent first episode, though a couple of things caught my eye.

Firstly in the scene where the Doctor asks is the planet Earth protected we see a (classic) Sea Devil.

This to me is a bit of a clue that we may see them in a future episode.

So I ask are these the new Sea Devils?

The screen capture is from the bit at the end of the episode where we see what is coming up in the new season.

The (heat) weapons and the mesh on the arms is very similar to the classic Sea Devils.

Steven Moffat did say back in July 2008  that we shouldn’t expect to see old monsters.

Steven Moffat has told Doctor Who fans to expect “new monsters” when he becomes the show’s executive producer and lead writer.

He told fans not to expect too many appearances from old characters.

“We’re not in the business of being nostalgic, we’re making nostalgia for the future, new monsters, new friends.”

Well it looks like we will be seeing a few, the Weeping Angels (created by Moffat) are in the new series, we have seen the Daleks and now Sea Devils.

Should be a good series.

Squiggoth

A Squiggoth that was entered into the GamesDay 2006 Golden Demon awards.

This is an Ork Squiggoth which was entered into the UK 2006 Golden Demon awards.

It is a nice concept, and the painting looks quite good.

For me the overall composition and basing of the model does let it down in my opinion. I am not sure if this is a Warhammer 40000 model or a Warhammer Fantasy Battle model, it’s not a clear concept. I like it, but I would like it even more if the overall concept had worked.

Having said all that it did get Gold!
