The Standard Car 4×2, or Car Armoured Light Standard, better known as the Beaverette, was a British improvised armoured car produced during the Second World War.

Beaverettes were manufactured as a ‘stop gap’ measure when invasion threatened in 1940, using the chassis of civilian saloon cars. These armoured cars were only ever issued to the Home Guard and RAF airfield defence units.

With the Mark IV Mk IV, the glacis armour was redesigned to improve visibility.

The Tank Museum acquired a Standard Beaverette Mk IV in 2018. It underwent restoration before going on show.

Standard Beaverette Mk III

Standard Car 4×2, or Car Armoured Light Standard, better known as the Beaverette, was a British armoured car produced during the Second World War. This RAF Standard Beaverette Mk III was on display at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

The Mk III Beaverbug – had a shortened chassis, a redesigned hull without curved front wings, top armour and a machine gun turret. A Mk III was used by the RAF Regiment in the capture of a Focke-Wulf Fw 190 and destruction of another when they landed at RAF West Malling in April 1943.

I have an old SDD 15mm model of the Standard Beaverette Mk I.

These are quite different to the Mk III.

Repainting the Home Guard Standard Beaverette

Standard Car 4×2, or Car Armoured Light Standard, better known as the Beaverette, was a British armoured car produced during World War II.

Don’t remember the manufacturer. After a bit of internet research I believe it is an old SDD miniature. Not convinced totally, but other miniatures in the box it was in carry SDD codes. I have painted this model. I gave the model a black undercoat, a dark green base coat and “weathered” it with some brown paint. Decided to repaint the model and gave it a coat of Warpaint British Armour.

Looks better already!
