Forgeworld Newsletter #167

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

Hello everyone,

February brings you another newsletter from Forgeworld, and we have some really good stuff for you in the shape of some great new main battle tanks for our Krieg armour range, as well the AX-1-0 Tiger Shark variant and the Grot Bomb (oh yes!) for Aeronautica Imperialis.
Thx,

Alan Bligh
Forge World.

Krieg Armour

Our two Krieg tank releases this newsletter are both ‘firsts’ for Forge World. The new Death Korps of Krieg Leman Russ Annihilator is a brand new variant. Armed with the tank-destroying ‘annihilator’ configuration twin-lascannon commonly found on the Space Marine Predator`s turret, this Russ specialises in hunting down and destroying enemy armoured forces.

Our other new release is the Death Korps of Krieg Leman Russ Demolisher. The heavily armed and armoured Demolisher siege tank has long been a staple of the Imperial Guard Codex, and this Krieg variant is the first Demolisher kit that Forge World has produced.

These two tanks are not only very effective additions to your Krieg army, but also I`m sure they will be sought after by Armoured Company, Renegades (I`m thinking of nabbing one for mine!) and Guard players alike, as they look great as well as being real battle-winners.

Both of these kits are available to order now for release the week commencing the 26th of February by clicking here. They feature the highly detailed Krieg modified Mars pattern hulls and Ryza pattern turrets, trench rails and air filters, the Krieg Tank Commander with Heavy Stubber as well as all the plastics you need to put together a Leman Russ (including the tank accessory sprue).

Experimental Rules for the Leman Russ Annihilator can be found by clicking here.

(Even More) Death From the Skies!

With Aeronautica Imperialis going from strength-to-strength we have two more releases on the way to get Tau and Ork players salivating. First for the Tau there is the Tiger Shark AX-1-0; once more a fantastic small-scale rendering of its Warhammer 40K `big brother` by Will Hayes, the AX-1-0s come two to a pack and are quite sizable, with a 75mm/3inch delta wingspan. The AX-1-0s are also real killers in the game; their heavy rail guns can blast apart the staunchest ground targets with ease, and with the Seeker Missile upgrade they can engage multiple targets on the ground or in the air (they’re one of the few Tau craft able to use them in this way,) making for a very nasty surprise for any enemy pilot that underestimates them.
As nice as the new Tiger Shark is, I must admit my favourite release this month is the Ork Grot Bombs for Aeronautica. As well as looking good, frankly I just enjoy the idea of these lunatic grots laughing manically as they ride their one-way rockets toward the enemy for death and glory, it`s just so damn Orkish! They`re also pretty effective in the game for scattering enemy formations and blowing high-value enemy target`s into little bitty pieces.

Grot bombs come eight models to a pack; four of these are designed to be attached to larger Ork aircraft (who get the Grot Bombs as an upgrade), and four to mount on the Aeronautica bases included and go screaming round the board.

Forgeworld Epic Squiggoth

With a future model I may paint the armour panels in a similar style to my Junkatrukks but with this model I am going down the dirty rusty armour style.

The black painted howdah was drybrushed with Tin Bitz and then a lighter drybrush of Boltgun Metal.

Next stage is to do the skin of the Squiggoth.

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

Hello everyone,

In this newsletter we have some good news for fans of `Aeronautica Imperialis` with the latest batch of releases for our new game, Also we have some cool new photos of painted Death Korps of Krieg and our Eldar Avatar, as well as some experimental rules for the Great Unclean One.
Thx,

Alan Bligh & Ewen Little.

Air War Escalation

In our expanding `Aeronautica Imperialis` range we have several more releases for this newsletter including the Vampire Raider for the Eldar and scenario-enhancing models such as new silos and bunkers for the game. All are available to pre-order now for shipping from Monday the 26th of February onwards via the Forge World online store.

Eldar Vampire Raider. This heavy hitter for the Eldar strike host has all the speed and manoeuvrability you’d expect, and enough firepower to destroy the heaviest opposition with ease, the Vampire Raider is greatly feared by the pilots of other races. The Vampire Raider fills the niche of troop transport in the Eldar sky host that the huge Thunderhawk Gunship we showed recently does for Space Marines, but with the benefits of added speed and manoeuvrability. Model Designer Will Hayes has managed to re-create the fantastic detailing of its 40K scale counterpart in miniature, but even though it has shrunk down to Aeronautica scale, the Vampire Raider is a surprisingly large model with a wingspan of some 86mm/3.5inches!

Also released on the 26th is a superb rendition of our Arvus Lighter for Aeronautica, again exact in every detail to its larger counterpart. This stalwart Imperial transport craft, while unarmed, is perfect for many scenario games where the goal is more complex than to simply duel with enemy aircraft, as well as being great for making airbase scenery and dioramas for your games. (The ungainly and workmanlike Arvus Lighter is one of my favourite designs. Now I can have a fleet of the little flying bricks to zoom around the table with! – Ewen)

In a similar vein we`ve also produced highly detailed new models representing Missile Silos, Radar and Command Bunkers for use in bomber and air raid missions as well as in campaign games (and of course they’ll also appeal to the Epic 40,000 gamers and grace their battlefields too). On a somewhat more lethal note also out is the Imperial Heavy Flak Gun to defend your airfields and bases with!

Look forward to more `Aeronautica Imperialis` releases soon.

`Aeronautica Imperialis` availability

Since its release, we`ve had enquiries from people like yourself, asking where they will be able to pick a copy of the book and some models? The answer to this is that `Aeronautica Imperialis` and the great new range of models to go with it are available pretty much exclusively from Forge World via the Forge World online store, and of course anywhere you see our stand at events and shows.

You can pick up Aeronautica in limited quantities at a select few flagship stores, (Call us for details), but do check what they’ve got in stock with them first before making a special journey.

Plague Daemon

It`s been a while since the release of our most despicably corrupt model The Great Unclean One, and you can now download experimental special rules for this bloated master of putrescence here.

Colours of Battle

Also up on our website toady are some new photos of excellent painted examples of our Eldar Avatar by Darren Latham and our Death Korps of Krieg Heavy Bolter teams and Death Korps of Krieg Lascannon teams by Paul Rudge.

The First Forge World Open Day

In the last issue of the Forge World Newsletter we mentioned our hosting a Forge World Open Day on April 1st. After receiving a few enquiries, we can confirm this is for real and not a hoax.

Being held here in Nottingham at Warhammer World, the day promises to be a great opportunity to come and meet the Forge World team and we plan on having quite a lot laid on to grab your attention and get you involved.

Of course we will have a large sales stand and anything that you might want to buy we will get picked and packed from our warehouse that day. Tony has said that there is a possibility that we`ll have some new, pre-release models available too, but we`ll be able to confirm details as the big day gets closer.

As our offices, or `The Lair` as we know them, are right round the corner in a secret, dormant volcano, which many of you might already have guessed, we`ll also be able to put on the biggest display of Forge World models anywhere so you`ll be able get a good close look at whatever you want.

We’ll be hosting seminar/Q&A sessions throughout the day, working on the details of a painting competition, Forge World Design Studio areas and ‘how-to’ hobby workshops too. Details on all these attractions and more will follow in future Forge World newsletters.

And as this is the very first Forge World Open Day, we have decided to make entry completely free! We won`t be taking over the entire hall on the day, that’d be rude! We`ll be sure to leave gaming tables for Warhammer World regulars and first-time visitors alike. In fact, all the usual Warhammer World attractions will be available for everyone, just with Forge World thrown in for free!

Ork Aircraft Traktor and Launch Trolley

The model consists of the plastic Wartrakk and some resin pieces. The resin pieces include wheels, the trailer, an arm, a fuel tank and the hook.

The Ork Aircraft Traktor is used to taxi Ork aircraft in position to launch, where it takes off discarding the launch trolley. the Aircraft Traktor also recovers landed Ork aircraft for refueling.

One of the key things you need to do with virtually all Forgeworld models is to give them a good wash. When the Forgeworld models are cast, the mould is given a spray (I guess) of some kind of lubricant to allow the cast model to be released from the mould easily. However the lubricant also acts as a barrier to paint, so as happened with previous models I (and others) have painted is that the paint flecks off.

Washing the model in water with a drop of washing up liquid should remove the lubricant. Avoid using hot water as this could warp the resin (a useful tip if you need to warped resin back to its original shape). Once washed the model is then ready for painting.

The model went together quite well, and I decided initially to paint the fuel tank separately. The first thing I did was give the model a spray of white undercoat.

Another view…

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

Hello everyone,

In this newsletter Forge World`s 2007 is off to a flying start with some great new aircraft for Aeronautica Imperialis (sorry the pun was mandatory), more deadly tanks for the Death Korps, and the arrival of the long-awaited Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad.

All of the new models in this newsletter are available to pre-order now on our Online Store for release commencing the 29th of January.

Alan Bligh

Leading the Onslaught

Our first new release this newsletter is the Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad. This fantastic new squad is intended as a platoon level command unit and features a junior officer with powersword and laspistol, a vox-operator, two Command Squad special weapons troopers (one with a plasma gun, one with a melta), and a standard bearer. Frankly I don`t need wax lyrical on these models, the quality and detail of them is everything you`ve come to expect from our Death Korps range, and should be readily apparent from these pictures.

Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad

This command squad is far from the last thing we have planned for the Death Korps, the near future will see both a HQ Command Squad and the Death Riders, with more to follow in what is perhaps already the most varied and extensive Imperial Guard range now available. One other thing to mention; you`ll note the inclusion of a piece of brass rod on the standard bearer in our new Command Squad (here), this is included when you purchase the models. In fact these rods will turn up in many of our future products (as banner polls, lance shafts etc) as we think they add greatly to the overall quality and ease of modelling.

Armoured Wrath

Also now available for pre-order are a further two models in our new Death Korps of Krieg Tank range, the Death Korps of Krieg Mars Alpha Pattern Leman Russ Exterminator and Executioner. These new variants are heavily modified to conquer the most environmentally hazardous warzones and navigate the most blasted of landscapes, with trench rails and filtration systems. These kits also come with Krieg tank commanders and pintle heavy stubbers.

On the battlefield both of these tanks make excellent hunter-killers in Warhammer 40K, both able to fire full volleys on the move. Depending on their configuration you can also fit them to excel at scything down enemy infantry or to swiftly deal with the threat of light vehicle squadrons. In particular the Executioner`s Plasma Destroyer cannon will make a mockery of `high-save` enemies such as power-armoured troops, while the Exterminator`s potential for sheer volume of fire is not to be underestimated.

Death From Above

Aeronautica Imperialis, our new game of savage air war the 41st millennium was released on the 2nd of January and is already proving to be a success. Hot on its heels are two brand new aircraft models with which to battle for the skies, the Space Marine Thunderhawk Gunship and the Eldar Phoenix.

These new models have a level of detail and faithfulness to their 40K counterparts that`s simply amazing. The real jewel in our crown here for me is the Thunderhawk Gunship model. I first saw one a while ago during development, and getting hold of one now I`m still struck just by how cool it looks and the incredible accuracy Darren has achieved, -every single line and detail is on there. It`s also pretty damn big in relation to the other flyers (as indeed it should be), in fact its 4 inches (10cm) long with a 3½ inch (8.8cm) wingspan, and sits 1½ inches (3.8cm) tall from landing gear to tail plane. It`s such a lovely model in fact that even if you never play a game of Aeronautica (and why not?) you`re probably going to want one anyway, either as a collector or as a Space Marine player, just to own and paint in your favourite chapter’s colours.

The iconic Thunderhawk is a real brute in Aeronautica; relatively slow but durable and heavily armed, it’s able to engage enemies at all ranges as well as pound ground targets to rubble and land troops in assault scenarios. The Phoenix on the other hand is a consummate all-rounder, excelling equally as an interceptor and strike craft, with the signature Eldar strengths of high-speed and supreme manoeuvrability matched to a powerful weapons array.

Look for more Aeronautica Imperialis releases in future newsletters. You can find out more about our exciting new air combat game here.

A Date For the Diary

On the 1st of April 2007, we`ll be having our first ever Forge World Open Day event at Warhammer World in Nottingham, -so mark that one on your calendars! More details on this will be forthcoming in future newsletters.
