Orc War Wyvern

This is the old Citadel Orc War Wyvern, which is from the Games Workshop archive and was on display at Warhammer World.

An early release for Warhammer, I do in fact have one of these, somewhere! I remember having real issues gluing the wings using an epoxy resin glue, which I used back them to stick models together. Even then I then added lots of Milliput to keep them attached to the body. Today I would probably need to pin the wings to the body and use green stuff to fill the gaps.

I don’t appear to have a photograph of my model, maybe I should dig through my storage boxes and see if I can dig it out.

This model also looked it was on display at GamesDay 2006, going back through my photo archive.

Well there appear to be a few differences, in the model at Games Day the wings are joined and the box is quite mint. The more recent photograph shows sticky tape attached to the box as well as price…

Crassus Armoured Assault Transport

This beautifully painted Forge World Crassus Armoured Assault Transport was on display at Warhammer World.

This immense armoured carrier is named after one of Lord Solar Macharius’ greatest generals, Borgen Crassus, who remained steadfastly loyal to the Imperium throughout the grim and bloody Macharian Heresy that followed the Lord Solar’s death.

The vehicle can be retrofitted with additional weapons to undertake other battlefield roles as required.

I like the painting, and use of snow and weathering powders. Certainly this will influence some of my painting. This is why I take photographs of models like this, as it really helps to see how “experts” do this and inform your own practice.

Siege of Volganoff

The siege of Volganoff was originally displayed at Games Day 2010 and was then put into place at Warhammer World in 2015. By 2020 the display had been reduced to focus on the heart of the battle.

Dark Angels Thunderhawks

Dark Angels Thunderhawks travel across an industrial sector in support of marines on the ground.

The Thunderhawk gunship is used by the Adeptus Astartes as their primary means of deploying forces for ground combat as well as their primary source of air support. The Thunderhawk gunship is often considered the lynchpin of any Space Marine Chapter, as it is able to fulfill many combat roles. The Thunderhawk is fully capable of functioning as an orbital drop ship, a heavy ground attack gunship, or as a bomber. The aircraft is able to quickly carry Space Marine forces from orbiting starships down into the midst of a battle, while at the same time providing supporting fire against enemy ground or air targets.

Dark Angels Chapel

This classic Dark Angels chapel was on display in Warhammer World.

Wood Elf Cavalry fighting the Undead

At Warhammer World there was a lovely classic Warhammer Fantasy diorama of Wood Elves fighting the forces of the Undead (well skeletons).

Some lovely touches in this diorama. You can see the skeletons emerging from the ground ready for battle.

Tallarn Stormsword at Warhammer World

The Stormsword super heavy tank is built specifically for sieges and street fighting. Whilst the Shadowsword excels at long range and the Baneblade is an ‘all rounder’ equally at home in the open fields or in street fighting, the Stormsword lends its weight and firepower to troops at close quarters

This is constructed from the plastic kit. Compare this one to the original Forge World resin kit (circa 2006).

Tallarn Stormlord

The Stormlord is a super-heavy main battle tank and variant of the Shadowsword tank-hunter and Titan-killer tank used by the forces of the Astra Militarum. The Stormlord replaces the Volcano Cannon of the Shadowsword with a Vulcan Mega Bolter. By removing the large capacitors and generators required for the Volcano Cannon to operate, extra space has been opened up near the rear of the vehicle which allows the Stormlord to carry up to 40 infantrymen as an open-topped armoured transport.

Leman Russ Vanquisher

The Leman Russ Vanquisher is a variant of the Astra Militarum’s primary main battle tank, the Leman Russ.

The Leman Russ Vanquisher variant differs from the standard pattern Leman Russ in that its main weapon is a Vanquisher Cannon, as opposed to the Battle Cannon. The Leman Russ Vanquisher is a much rarer and more advanced variant of the standard Leman Russ as the long-barrelled Vanquisher Cannon mounted on the Leman Russ Vanquisher is capable of firing powerful anti-tank shells. In addition, there is a Storm Bolter mounted co-axially to the main cannon.

Banehammer at Warhammer World

The Banehammer is a super-heavy vehicle used by the Imperium, a close cousin to the venerable Shadowsword and Baneblade.

It is unknown when the Banehammer was first created but it has had much use, especially during the recent Tyrannic Wars. The vehicle is primarily used by Imperial Guard commanders to halt massed enemy advances.

The Banehammer replaces the Baneblade’s Battle Cannon with a Tremor Cannon, which launches projectiles which bury themselves and detonate only after traveling some distance. On detonation, the shell releases a huge shock wave, liquefying the nearby ground and forcing enemy infantry and vehicles to literally crawl their way through or risk the consequences.

I initially confused this Banehammer with the Doomhammer. The Doomhammer is a similar Super Heavy Tank which was created from the necessity for Titan-killing vehicles during the thousand-year-long siege of Ordana. During the siege, many commanders requested Shadowswords to combat the large number of heavy armour in the form of Titans and tanks from a renegade forge world. The only way the Imperium could maintain the war effort was to retrofit their Banehammers with magma cannons.
