Darkest Africa Adventurers

Here are a few of Simon’s Darkest Africa Adventurers.

The flash from the camera (as I was taking these pictures just before the game) has been rather harsh on them, they look a lot better in the flesh. Maybe I should read my own photography techniques!

Old West Buildings

I used my new Sarissa Precision Old West 25mm Buildings in a recent game.

I had also taken the time to repaint my desert scenery tiles from the Martian red they were (due to using too much Red Primer spray paint) to a brown green theme. I however hadn’t got round to drybrushing them or adding tufts of grass in time for the game.

Old West Buildings

I have really liked the idea of the laser-etched mdf buildings I have seen online for a while now, so was really pleased when Simon got me a couple of the Sarissa Precision Old West 25mm Buildings for my birthday.

I got the shack and a small building.

They went together really easily. I added a shop sign to the small building.

I hope to get some more to build a complete Old West town.

Victorian Science Fiction Steam Tank

Here is my Victorian Science Fiction Steam Tank from Ironclad Miniatures from a recent game.

Alongside them are some Foundry Darkest Africa miniatures from Simon’s collection.

We didn’t use the steam tank as a model in the game, merely as scenery.

I am thinking about how I can create rules for the steam tank for the Legends of the Old West rules. I have been looking at the tank rules in The Great War rules and I think that they could work with a little work. My main concern is that the weapons usually found in the old west probably weren’t able to do much damage to a VSF steam tank and therefore as well as rules for the steam tank, I also need to think about some steampunk weapons for those fighting against the steam tank.

Though I am sure an Elephant Gun might be able to do some damage…

Robot Mummy

In a recent game of Legends of the Old West I actually used all four Robot Mummies from my collection of Doctor Who models, as hired thugs.

They didn’t have weapons, but fought in hand to hand combat, by squeezing their opponents.

Darkest Africa

Here are some of Simon’s Darkest Africa figures.

We used them in a recent game of Legends of the Old West where they were trounced by my posse of cowboys and robot mummies…

Basing the Gunfighters

Though I was quite pleased how Emmet Gates turned out, I was less pleased with his base.

I first gave it a basecoat of Citadel Texture: Armageddon Dust. Once the paint was dry, I drybrushed with Citadel Layer: Ushabti Bone and then used some Citadel Mordheim Turf.

What I did note was that it didn’t quite cover the coin as well as I thought it would. So for my other Foundry models I decided to use a bit of green stuff to texture the base.

This will combined with the Citadel Texture make the base look more like a base and less like a coin.

Tally Ho!

Tally Ho! has been an idea of mine for many years now, and sadly hasn’t got very far.

The concept was based around the 1930s pulp fiction, combined with the best of the Indiana Jones films, a smattering of Darkest Africa and potentially some steampunk in there too.

Having finished my Victorian Science Fiction Steam Tank and Emmet Gates, I knew that I did need some more figures. Though I was still painting my Foundry Gunfighters, sorting through some boxes I found some Foundry Darkest Africa figures that I must have bought in the 1990s at some point.

I decided that I would try and paint these up, mainly for use with the Old West rules, but also to inspire me to revisit and think about the Tally Ho! rules and background.
