Malcador Defender

A renegade Malcador Defender advances during the Siege of Vraks.

Named after a mysterious figure from the Imperium’s earliest days, Malcador the Sigillite (a close advisor to the Emperor during the Battles of Unification, and the man credited with founding the Administratum of Terra), the Malcador Heavy Tank is a mobile fortress, heavily armed and armoured but slow. The Defender variant is perhaps the most common, although also the most unusual – its fixed turret mounts 5 limited-traverse Heavy Bolters, positioned to provide all-round defensive fire. The Defender crams 8 crew into a cramped interior, as it also mounts two sponson weapons and a hull-mounted Demolisher Cannon. Unsurprisingly, the Defender is perfect for the role of a breakthough tank – ably suited to close-quarters fighting, trench warfare and urban engagements in which its multiple fire-points and heavy armour excel.

Imperial Tauros Assault Vehicle

Another model available at the 2010 Forge World Open Day will be the Imperial Tauros Assault Vehicle.

tauros4wheel

The Tauros Venator is but one variant of this multi-purpose assault vehicle – the ‘standard’ 4-wheel Tauros is used by the Elysian regiments as a long-range scout vehicle, mounting potent anti-personnel firepower in the form of either a Heavy Flamer or Tauros Grenade Launcher. Its four wheels are individually powered by advanced high-yield galvanic motors, allowing it to maintain speed even with damaged tyres – often a crucial edge when faced with superior enemy firepower. This detailed model, designed by Will Hayes, is a full resin kit that comes with options for a Heavy Flamer or Grenade Launcher as well as two resin crew, designed by Simon Egan. The Tauros can be transported in either a Valkyrie Sky Talon or a standard Valkyrie, which the model will physically fit into.

I like this, probably more so than the six wheeled version.

Imperial Guard Heavy Tank

Here is an Imperial Guard Heavy Tank from Simon’s collection moving through the ruins of an Imperial City.

Variant Imperial Guard Tank
Variant Imperial Guard Tank

This conversion was made, probably about ten years ago, so way before the Death Korps of Krieg models found their way into Epic Armageddon and Forge World.

I am pretty sure that this is a Hydra hull, as for the turret, well if you look at this picture of one of my Ork tanks from the same era, I think you will be able to guess!

From a fluff perspective, it can be easily imagined that an Ork army overtook an Imperial Guard tank factory and utilised many of the components including the turrets on their own tanks and battlewagons.

If I remember correctly, from Simon’s perspective I think it was because he had all the Ork vehicles from the Epic 40000 boxed set that he decided to use the Ork turrets.
