Forgeworld Epic Ork Gunwagons

I am finishing off some more of my Forgeworld Epic Ork Gunwagons.

In this picture the ink, paint and water wash is still wet.

They have being painted in various shades, one was Snakebite Leather, another Blazing Orange and the other Vermin Brown. I do like the fact they look consistent yet different.

The next stage will be a drybrush in the basecoat to highlight the detail and tone down the wash.

ForgeWorld Newsletter #128

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

Time for the second of our pre-Games Day UK newsletters. In this issue we have two big new models to show you more details on our next book release. In our third newsletter next week we will show you some of the ‘precious things’ that we have been preparing just for Games Day.

Thx,

Ewen Little.
Forge World.

The Keeper of Secrets
Finished just in time to make an appearance at Games Day UK, Daniel Cockersell’s Greater Daemon of Slaanesh is a truly wonderful piece of work. Based on a concept sketch by Dave Gallagher, Daniel has made a model that captures what I see as the very essence of Slaanesh. The Keeper of Secrets manages to be both beautiful and terrible at the same time. The model shows grace and elegance yet is adorned by spikes, horns and massive claws! The model stands an impressive 165mm/6.5inches tall and is made up from over 80 individual pieces. This lovely new model is available to pre-order on the Forge World online store for release from Monday October 24th. If we are very lucky, we may even have a few pre-release Keeper of Secrets available to buy at Games Day too.

New Warhammer Giant
Over the past few weeks Mark Bedford re-visited our Warhammer Giant. The idea was to make the Giant a bit more brutal and beast-like so with a small, thick browed head and funny numbers of fingers and toes yes, Mark has made the Giant a shambling, drooling monster, but a very dangerous one. Wielding the complete arm and counterweight from a trebuchet as a club, this new Giant still measures in at a healthy 215mm/8.5inches tall, more than enough height to dominate the battlefield and take pride of place among your army. With the Giant now fitting on a special 50mm x 100mm ‘chariot’ base the model is easier to use in games of Warhammer. Again, if we are very lucky, we hope to have some pre-release Giants for sale at Games Day UK next weekend. But of course he is available to pre-order right now on the Forge World online store for release from Monday October 24th.

Imperial Armour Update 2005
Released next week and available at Games Day UK, ‘Imperial Armour Update 2005’ is the brand new 48 page rules guide for Warhammer 40,000 from Forge World. On the link below you can see the front cover so you know what to look for, the list of contents so you know what’s in there, and a couple of example pages. I know that the rules for all our Tyranid creatures have been completely brought up to date and in line with the new Codex and that complete rules for both the Imperial Warhound and Eldar Revenant Titans are in there too.

ForgeWorld Newsletter #127

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

With just a few weeks to go, Forge World is a hive of activity as we prepare for the biggest and baddest Games Day of the year, Games Day UK! Today’s newsletter has more on Forge World’s involvement in Games Day UK and also a couple of new releases, one of which is sure to be a big, big hit!
Thx,

Ewen Little.
Forge World.

Quite simply one of the best new products I have seen…
Call me biased if you want to, but what I write in these newsletters really are my own thoughts and opinions. Just this morning we took delivery of a brand new product, sheets of photo-etched brass Imperial Eagles. We took a couple of pre-production samples of these to Games Day Germany the other week to see what you folks thought. Sandy, who was working near where they were on show, received hundreds of enquiries throughout the day. The most common question/query was along the lines of ‘I must have these. How much?!’ The uses for these Imperial Eagles are many-fold. Each one is so thin it can be bent across a curved surface, like a Space Marine shoulder pad or leg greave! They can be used to create custom banners. They can adorn the sides of tanks, Titans, Dreadnoughts or even buildings. You can even use them as a mask for spraying… On the sheet you get a hefty number of individual Imperial Eagle symbols of various sizes. Please note the ruler in the photo of the sheet to help show the scale. Half the Eagles are mounted on plates, some raised up above the plate and others recessed into it. The uses for these things are almost limitless! Of course as these Eagles are brass you don’t have to paint them if you don’t want to. You could easily polish them up and then seal them with varnish, leave them to tarnish or just paint them as normal. What is even better is that Forge World have these is stock right now and are available to order for immediate release!

Tallarn Equipment Pack
Next on the agenda is a great new pack of extras that sharp-eyed observers may have noticed gracing the pages of our huge new catalogue supplement. The Tallarn Equipment Pack has lots of little extra pieces you can use on pretty much any Imperial Guard Regiment’s troops to add a little more individuality and character. Apart from the ammo pouches, backpacks and water-bottles, one of the most charismatic pieces included in the pack is the ‘jezzail’ style lasgun which I’m sure I can find a use for. The Forge World warehouse has Tallarn Equipment packs in stock and they are available to order right now.

The BIG one, Sunday September 25th, Games Day UK
Expect to see newsletters from us every week in the run up to the big day as we put the finishing touches to a multitude of special projects and can confirm that you can see or buy them at Games Day. But of course we won’t tell you absolutely everything we will have on show at Games Day ‘cos that would take some of the fun out of your day! As of today, we are happy to take any reservation orders for Games Day. If you have not taken advantage of this free service before let us explain why it makes good sense. At a busy event like a Games Day Forge World can run out of some model lines very quickly. Having what you want to buy from Forge World reserved for you means you don’t have to rush over first thing because we pick and pack your order a few days before the show and it is sitting waiting for you at our dedicated reservation collection point! In fact you don’t even have to collect your reservation until 3pm so you don’t have to carry huge bags around with you all day either. To place a reservation just email us a list of what you want to buy and your name to forgeworld@games-workshop.co.uk or give us a call and we shall take care of the rest. For the truly dedicated Forge World fan, Tony Cottrell’s seminar has proven to be a very popular part of Games Day for the past few years. It didn’t look like we were able to hold one this year but thanks to the help of the Black Library we are very happy to announce that Tony will be hosting a small combination seminar/questions and answers session at 3pm. We have a limited number of free tickets to give away so if you would like a ticket then just email us at forgeworld@games-workshop.co.uk saying ‘Seminar ticket please!’ remembering to include your name. We will allocate the tickets on a first-come-first-served basis and we will reply to everyone letting them know if they have a ticket and where they can be collected from on Games Day.

Forge World Newsletter #126

a new Eldar Titan…

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

Welcome to the latest Forge World Newsletter. I apologise that we have not sent a newsletter for a little while but the last month or so has been very, very busy. I went to three different shows with Forge World over three consecutive weeks! Just before we go out on the road once again we have grabbed a few minutes to get you all back up-to-date with what we’re up to.
In this issue of the newsletter we have details and pictures of our second Eldar Titan, a first look and some info on our next book as well as updates on some of the shows Forge World will be attending over the next few weeks.
Thx,

Ewen Little,
Forge World.

New Eldar Titan!
The Eldar Revenant Titan has been one of the most popular large 40K models that Forge World has made. The smooth flowing lines and graceful poise of the model has made it a firm favourite in the Forge World office so when Will Hayes started work on a second Revenant a few months ago anticipation was high. A cursory glance would reveal that Will has just changed the guns and the fin but that is not even close to the whole of it. More detailed examination shows that the armour plates around the waist have all been subtly changed while the torso and rear jump-jets have had their design refined and altered. The newly re-styled rear fin stands proudly over the top of the model while a very clean and clear new head design makes for a far more impassive, truly alien feel. Of course if you prefer, you can use the original Revenant head which is also included in the kit. Armed with two impressive looking Sonic Lances in place of the Pulsars, I think this new Revenant Titan looks the business! This new Eldar Revenant is available to pre-order right now and we will start shipping them out from the release date, Monday September 19th.

Look! Another Imperial Armour book!
In the next few weeks Forge World will be releasing ‘Imperial Armour Update 2005’. This rules guide is packed with 33 Imperial, Ork, Chaos, Necron and Eldar vehicle variants, (including the new Eldar Revenant’s Sonic Lances), as well as monstrous Tyranid creatures. In this book you will be able to find rules and brief background for Forge World models not covered in the large ‘Imperial Armour’ hardback books. Final details on an exact release date and full list of contents will follow shortly in another issue of the Forge World Newsletter, so watch this space.

Games Day Germany.
The long suffering and very hardworking Forge World staff are helping put the final few bits and pieces together today so we can set off to Cologne for Games Day Germany which is being held this Sunday. At this year’s event we are packing up almost every painted model we have so we can display even more cabinets full to overflowing of your favourite models. As an added attraction Forge World designer Simon Egan is coming across to show off some of his latest work and answer any of your questions. If we are very lucky, we hope to have a few pre-release examples of the new Eldar Revenant Titan and some copies of ‘Imperial Armour Update 2005’ available at Games Day so if you are coming along please do ask us! We may even have some Space Wolves Terminator Upgrade sets and other new models too.

I personally don’t like the Eldar Titan that much, but then again I don’t really like the Eldar that much, so that’s probably why.

Looking to see how useful the new Imperial Armour book will be.

Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons Update

n a previous entry I showed off a couple of my painted Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons, I was not happy with one of them. You can see the original paint job in the picture below.

Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons

I put it down to the checks, but then someone on EpiComms mentioned they didn’t like the green panel, so I have now painted over it.

In my mind it now looks a little better.

More Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons

hough I have already painted some of the Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons, I am currently painting some more.

They started with a white undercoat and then I sprayed the bottom with black paint to seal in the resin.

These are very detailed models and well worth getting and very good value (compared to the metal models from GW) at £5 for three.

I also like the weapons on them and it is worth getting them I think just to get the guns for conversions.

Elite of Fenris
Our Spotlight today has to be on the new Space Wolves Wolf Guard Terminator conversion pack. Note I didn’t say shoulder pads. Ever since we decided to do shoulder pad sets for the new plastic Terminators we knew that for the Space Wolves we’d have to do a lot more in order to convey their ferocity and appearance. Unlike the other Marine Chapters, the Space Wolves do not use the Codex Astartes in any form, using instead their own clan like structure and appearance. To portray this, Simon Egan has excelled himself and produced what I believe are some of the best Space Wolves figures yet. To go with the shoulder pads he has also sculpted replacement torsos for the Terminators, two of which are not wearing helmets, allowing their hair and braids to fall free in a truly ferocious manner. The Space Wolves Terminator conversion pack is available to Pre-order now and will be shipped week commencing 29th August.

Beneath the Sand
On the desert world of Taros the population do not construct buildings in the usual manner. Due to the intense temperatures and inhospitable surroundings the people of Taros have delved deep into the ground to find security and comfort. The only part of a Taros building above ground is its entrance, built from heavy stone and metal these squat constructions stand solid against the elements. This building style is used on many Imperial worlds where the surface is not hospitable to long exposure, such as Ice worlds or to provide protection against attack. These models are released week commencing 29th August and are available to Pre-order now.

Sensor Alert
A newly encountered piece of Tau equipment is the Remote Sensor Tower. It wasn’t until late in the Taros campaign that any of the Imperium’s forces encountered these strange devices. The vanguard of the Cadian 114th Regiment met these tall, thin towers as they advanced towards hydro-processing plant 23-30. Soon afterwards their columns came under attack from long-range Seeker missile strikes, losing several Chimeras in the process. The Remote Sensor Tower is released week commencing 29th August and are now available to Pre-order.

Taros Campaign
Taros Campaign Yesterday we received the first few copies of the new Taros Campaign book so that we could send them off (more on that later) and take a look at a final copy. I have one in front of me now and it looks great. Not only is it the biggest book we’ve so far produced but it’s most definitely the heaviest! You have to watch the surprise on people’s faces when you pass them the book and they feel it’s weight. I’ve only had a quick look through so far but I’m looking forward to sitting down and reading it as this is the first time I’ve got to look at what’s in it. It’s certainly our most popular book so far. We keep getting requests from people asking what is in the new book, when it’s released and if we can show any pictures from it. So for those who missed it I’m including the link to the preview pages of Imperial Armour Volume 3 – The Taros Campaign and for those who didn’t miss it, we’ve added some more pages. The Taros Campaign book will be shipped out week commencing 15th August and is available to Pre-order now.

Games Day Chicago
Games Day Chicago is this Saturday and Ewen flew over yesterday with many display models to show off. As a special attraction, we had the printers rush in a few copies of the new Imperial Armour book so that we could UPS them over to the US in time for Games Day. So the Forge World Stand will be selling the Taros Campaign book. We should get 50 copies over in time so if you want one you’ll have to be quick.

Other Events
On the 7th August we will be attending the rescheduled Conflict London at Alexander Palace. We are taking reservation orders for this event up until Wednesday 3rd August, so if you want something in particular for the event, let us know in the next few days. 28th August will see us at Games Day Germany in Cologne(Koln). We are now taking reservation orders and will take reservations until 19th August. So if there is something that you know you definitely want to pick up, drop us an email or call us and we’ll have that put aside for you. We will have copies of Imperial Armour Volume 3: The Taros Campaign on sale at both of these events.

New scenery looks nice but I wonder if it will be any use in games? Could be used as objectives, but I am not sure I like the concept that much. Tau stuff looks nice, but I don’t play Tau!

Forge World Newsletter #124

No pre-amble today, this issue of the Forge World Newsletter is almost totally devoted to the release of the next big Imperial Armour book.
Thx,

Imperial Armour III’Imperial Armour Volume Three – The Taros Campaign’
In our last newsletter we gave you a few pieces of information about ‘Imperial Armour Volume Three – The Taros Campaign’ and I said I hoped to be able to show you more and give you the release date in the next issue. Here it is folks! ‘Imperial Armour Volume Three – The Taros Campaign’ is available to pre-order right now, both online and over the phone. This huge 320 page hardback, our biggest book to date, is released from Monday August 15th and orders will be sent out that week. As an added bonus, the first 250 copies pre-ordered will be signed by the authors, Warwick Kinrade and Tony Cottrell. So let’s tell you a bit more about the book shall we? After Abaddon’s Black Crusade has ravaged Cadia forge world Stygies VIII is required to increase production. After checking Imperial archives to find mining planets with large reserves the planet of Taros is listed. Auditor-Prime Dree is despatched to Taros to investigate the quantity and quality of resources available and to increase production, but after several meetings with planetary officials he finds many ore deposits had been mined out. Dree gathers all the information he has gathered and deduces that Taros has been over-producing for years and that all the additional ore had been directed to the capital city whereupon it disappeared. Whilst on a routine anti-pirate sweep near the Damocles Gulf, an Imperial Navy patrol find a Tau Way Station and several Tau transport vessels. The Navy patrol intercepts the transports and attacks the Way Station. The transports are not carrying any cargo but investigation shows their last port of call was Taros. When this information is added to Auditor-Prime Dree’s report it is obvious that the Planetary Governor of Taros has consorted with aliens and is guilty of heresy. A strike force is hastily raised and the initial assault to remove the Planetary Governor and re-establish strict control over this vital system is lead by elements of the Avenging Sons Space Marine Chapter. After a successful Drop Pod assault they discover that the Governor has already been ‘removed’ by the Tau who are already occupying the planet in force… The bloody battles of the Taros Campaign follow swiftly. Want to see a bit more of the book? The link below will take you to a series of web pages where you will be able to see 9 page spreads from various sections of the book. Enjoy.

Take a look at the sample pages here.

another Imperial Armour book about to be released…

++++ MESSAGE BEGINS ++++

Today’s Forge World Newsletter contains details on several new releases for both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, but our main feature is on our third big Imperial Armour book which is due to be released in the next few weeks. We also have some new experimental rules for a few of our 40K and BFG models for you to download and try out too.

Imperial Armour III – Huge new Imperial Armour book off to print!
For pretty much the last twelve months Warwick and Tony have been working on the latest in our range of large Imperial Armour books. ‘Imperial Armour Volume 3: The Taros Campaign’ is not an encyclopaedia of rules and history about Tau armoured vehicles, oh no! To try to give you an idea of what you can expect from this huge 320 page book here is a brief synopsis: ‘When the Imperium discovers that the Planetary Governor of Taros has been illicitly trading with the alien Tau Empire, selling valuable mineral resources, the Imperium are forced to remove the traitor. The Tau respond in force and the desert mining world of Taros plunges into war. First the Space Marines, then Imperial Guard regiments from Tallarn, Elysia and Cadia move onto Taros. This book details the history of that war, the units involved, the strategies employed, the battles won and lost. Inside you’ll find, in exacting detail, information on Tau vehicles, aircraft, their allies and the Tau Fleet. Also covered are new fighting machines of the Imperium. There is background, interior details, technical specifications, illustrations, colour schemes and rules for using all these vehicles and aircraft in games of Warhammer 40,000. Imperial Armour Volume 3 is heavily illustrated with 120 colour and black and white pictures, 110 full colour vehicle profiles, over 80 technical drawings, plus organisation charts, tactics and scenarios to add new depth to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. There are also army lists for the Elysian Drop Troops, the Tau forces in Epic and additions to the Tallarn Imperial Guard regiments and Tau forces in Warhammer 40,000. Appendices contain all the rules you will need to use Super-heavy vehicles and aircraft in your games, as well as detailing matters as Tau colour schemes, markings and aircraft variants.’ We believe that this book will be a great read for anyone with an interest in Warhammer 40,000. It isn’t just 40K; there are also rules for Epic 40,000 and BFG in there too. On the link below we have a picture of the front cover of ‘Imperial Armour Volume 3’ and the contents page. In the next Forge World Newsletter we hope to be able to show you some of the pages from the book and to give you a release date.

Death from the Skies
Being a loyal Space Marine collector/sometimes player, I think I might have to give our resident Inquisitor a call because I must admit that I really, REALLY like Daren Parrwood’s new Chaos fighter. The Hell Blade quite obviously comes from the same twisted family as the Hell Talon but I think it is just downright beautiful! Why? Could be how it manages to be sleek and jagged at the same time but the Hell Blade just ticks all the right ‘Must have one!’ boxes in my head. For such a compact aircraft, 4 inches/100mm wide and 10 inches/250mm long, the Hell Blade will still pack a fair punch with two twin-linked autocannon, nearly the same firepower mustered by the Imperial Thunderbolt! Warwick should have some experimental rules ready for the Hell Blade soon so watch this space… The Hell Blade is available to pre-order now and orders will ship out from Monday August 1st.

Let us pray…
From the simple roadside shrine on the road to Middenheim to the huge Fortress Monasteries of the Space Marines, churches and temples take many forms in both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 so this next release will fit quite nicely in either universe. In its bare form the Warhammer Shrine could just as easily be dedicated to Sigmar and tended by Warrior Priests as it could be raised to the Glory of the Emperor and guarded by the monastic Dark Angels. The Warhammer Shrine measures in at a fraction under 12 inches/300mm long and 7 inches/180mm tall making it one of our largest pieces of terrain; certainly it will be a target of the foul enemy and must be defended! With the potential of this model we decided early in the project not to make it solely for one race or army, letting you decorate it using icons and statues as you like. Of course we couldn’t resist making at least one add-on pack ourselves. Our pack of Bretonnian Reliquary Items transform the Shrine into a revered hall honouring The Lady includes woodcuts, gargoyles and statues. Of course this pack is available separately from the Shrine and can be used to adorn the walls of a Bretonnian fortress or any other grand Bretonnian building too… Released on Monday August 1st and sent out that week, the Warhammer Shrine and the Bretonnian Reliquary Items are both available to pre-order now.

Beware; Sniper!
As part of our ‘Imperial Armour Volume 3’ releases we have some new Tallarn Desert Raider Snipers. The Tallarn Desert Raiders are renowned for their hit and run tactics. Tallarn troops are excellent marksmen and heavy weapons are not always conducive to their fighting style, some Tallarn infantry squads discard these and instead equip their best marksmen with a long las. This pack of three multi-part Tallarn Snipers is available to pre-order from today and will be sent out from Monday August 1st .

Let’s try this…
As promised, we have a set of experimental rules for the new Space Marine Siege Dreadnoughts for everybody to try as well as a set for the BFG Eldar Haven Spire. There is also a rules update for some of our Tyranid monstrosities that will make them work a lot better in conjunction with the recently released Codex Tyranids.

Forge World on tour
The second half of the year will see Forge World attending even more shows around the world, giving you the opportunity to see our displays of painted models, ask questions and to buy any models you want. This Sunday, July 10th we will be in London at Alexandria Palace for Conflict London which promises to be bigger and busier than ever this year. Next we will be going to a new show, well new to us anyway, The War and Peace Show down in Kent. War and Peace is the world’s largest military vehicle and collector’s fair and last year there were over 3500 military vehicles on display. This five day show runs from Wednesday July 20th through to Sunday July 24th and there will be living history re-enactors, over 1000 trade stands and special events in the open air arenas. We are really looking forward to the War and Peace Show as there will be lots of things for us to see and do, one of which is to rumble round with our huge radio-controlled Baneblade! Of course we will have a large display of our newest and best models on show and lots of model kits available to buy. A few days later Forge World will be over in the US for Games Day Chicago on July 30th, our fourth and final US Games Day of the year. There we will have a large display and sales stand and later in the afternoon I will be judging Golden Demon entries, trying to find a winner for the coveted ‘Forge World Best of Show’ trophy.
