Kingdom of Britannia Ruler Class Battleship

As with the frigates and the cruisers I gave the Ruler Class Battleship from the Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia, a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade. I did this to add shadow and shade and emphasise the decking.

I did consider painting parts of the model bronze or copper, to add a victorian science fiction feel, but in the end kept the model mostly grey to be more naval looking. Another thing I have seen on other peoples’ models is making elements of the model a glowing “cobalt” blue colour. I might do that if I go down the route of painting a Covenant of Antarctica naval force.

I think these models have an interesting design concept, but they’re not my favourite.

Next stage will be drybrushing.

Painting the Decks

After giving the models in the Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group their basecoat, I painted the decks of the battleship and the cruisers. For the decks I used Citadel Base: Zandri Dust.

I also painted the decks of the Tribal Class Cruisers.

I decided not to paint the decks of the frigates as I found the process too fiddly.

Basecoating the Naval Battle Group

After undercoating the models from the Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group were given a basecoat of Citadel Base: Mechanicus Standard Grey.

Here is the Ruler Class Battleship.

It was quite challenging to paint within the superstructure.

The three Tribal Class Cruisers also got the same basecoat. I mounted these on paint pots.

So did the Attacker Class Frigates.

Lots of detail for such small models.

Next stage will be the decking.

Dystopian Wars: Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group

Some time ago I bought the Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group for Dystopian Wars.

In the box you get:

1 x Battleship
3 x Cruisers
9 x Frigates
2 x Bombers
10 x Resin Flying Tokens
2 x Acrylic Flight Stands
4 x A5 Token Sheets
Laminated Statistic Cards

After cleaning the models, and putting them together I gave them a white undercoat.

These are the Attacker Class Frigates.

These are the Tribal Class Cruisers.

The next stage for these models will be a grey basecoat.

Britannian Reinforcements

Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia Ruler Class Battleship HMS King Richard III
Having finished painting my Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group I started to think about reinforcements. I already have on the workbench quite a few flyers, but what I decided I needed more naval vessels, well maybe one more naval vessel.

I initially considered getting some more Tribal Cruisers, but in the end went with a second Ruler Class Battleship.

The Britannia Battleship is the pride of Queen Victoria’s navy, a reliable and hardy workhorse that has fought in many battles across the globe. It has a fearsome array of torpedo tubes, allowing it to fire at surface and submerged targets within three firing arcs, and four main turrets. This Battleship also has the option of replacing up to two turrets with Shield Generators, which can sometimes make all the difference in negating the attacks of other craft while the Battleship pounds its enemies with shells.

I am in the process of naming my Dystopian Wars ships. My original Ruler Class Battleship was named King Richard III and in a similar spirit of choosing a King with a slighted or disreuptable reputation. I have considered two names, King George III and King John. In the end I think I may go with King John, just because George III and Richard III are both “thirds”.
