Naval Battle Group

The Dystopian Wars was a miniatures games from Spartan Games.

The ideal way to start your Kingdom of Britannia force:

1 x Battleship
3 x Cruisers
9 x Frigates
2 x Bombers
10 x Resin Flying Tokens
2 x Acrylic Flight Stands
4 x A5 Token Sheets
Laminated Statistic Cards

This is how it looks from the marketing material, though this image includes the aircraft carrier which is not included in the Battle Group.

The model itself comes in a nice box.

This is the resin you get in the box along with the metal bombers.

They are very clean castings.

After cleaning the models, and putting them together I gave them a white undercoat.

The Attacker Class Frigates were temporarily glued to wooden sticks to make them easier to paint.

Here is one of the three Tribal Class Cruisers you get in the box.

I decided to forgo the generators and just use ordnance on these models.

I mounted the Tribal Class Cruisers on to old paint pots to make them easier to paint.

In the boxed set you also get a Ruler Class Battleship.

You also get ten flyer tokens.

In the box you also get two metal Doncaster Class Bombers with flying bases.

I am not a great fan of the Dystopian Wars very large aircraft. I think they are too bulky, probably an issue with using metal castings and they don’t look like they could actually fly! The wings and fins are very “thick” for this scale of model.

For the ships I decided to give them a basecoat of Citadel Base: Mechanicus Standard Grey.

Here is a side view of the Tribal Class Cruiser.

The Attacker Class Frigates were also given a basecoat of Citadel Base: Mechanicus Standard Grey.

The Ruler Class Battleship then also recieved a basecaot of Citadel Base: Mechanicus Standard Grey.

After giving the model their basecoat, I painted the decks of the battleship and the cruisers. For the decks I used Citadel Base: Zandri Dust.

Painting the decks of the Tribal Class Cruiser.

As I am going to give the model a wash, I wasn’t as neat as I could be.

I decided not to paint the decks of the frigates as I found the process too fiddly.

Having painted the decks of the Kingdom of Britannia Tribal Class Cruisers. I gave the models a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade.

As with the frigates and the cruisers I gave the Ruler Class Battleship from the Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia, a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade. I did this to add shadow and shade and emphasise the decking.

Having washed the models, after they were dry, I drybrushed them with Citadel Layer: Administratum Grey.

The weathering didn’t quite work out as well as I thought it would. I was using a Citadel Shade to add rust and oil, and it appeared to “bleed” the paint underneath.

I used the same process on the smaller ships. I gave the models a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade. I decided against painting the decks of the Attacker Class Frigates as these are very small models and the decking was quite fiddly to paint.

As you can see I have stuck three onto each wooden stick for ease of painting.

This is a very quick method of adding shadow and shade to the models.

Next stage will be to paint the flyers.
