Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons

I wanted to use a desert theme for my new Ork armies, which would mean that all the vehicles would be painted in different shades of dark orange and brown but still have an element of consistency amongst the units in the army. Having said that I will also be painting some in shades of green as well, though the brown wash will help blend them in.

Having painted and drybrushed the metal parts of the Gunwagons, the next stage was to paint the base coat. With the two models shown one was painted Desert Yellow and the other Bestial Brown..

Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons

The next stage was to give them a wash of Chestnut Ink, Scorched Brown and water.

This was then followed by a drybrush of the basecoat to tone down the wash and highlight the detail.

Epic Forgeworld Ork Gunwagons

Here are some more pictures of the finished Gunwagons so far.

The bases were Warmaster bases and were covered in GW’s sand mix, before painting Bestial Brown and drybrushing with Bleached Bone.

Forgeworld Newsletter #117

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

You’ll be glad to know it’s time for a new Forge World Newsletter. Number 117 to be precise. This issue we have some new models to show and some information on show attendance. For those of you going to Games Day LA this weekend, be sure to visit the Forge World stand. Oh, you might want to show Ewen this Newsletter, before asking him about anything on it, he doesn’t know we’re sending it!

Cheers

Mukaali
Thundering heavily across the desert come’s a Tallarn Roughrider mounted on his Mukaali Xenos steed. These figures are not yet available but we thought we’d show you what we have instore. People have been asking what these look like for a while and we’ve deliberately not described them, after all, there are elements of elephant and camel amongst other things and however we chose to describe it the actual thing would not match the image in peoples minds. Now you need wonder no more. They’ll be out soon.

Space Marine Raptors Chapter Doors
The latest offering in our collection of Chapter specific doors begins with two sets for the Raptors Chapter. Many of you will know of the Raptors Chapter, they are a successor to the Raven Guard and are well known for their jungle warfare, but as with all Marine Chapters, they deploy whenever and wherever they are required (including on the planet Taros in our new book, but you’ll have to wait for that!). To aid their rapid deployment they make use of the ubiquitous Rhino and Land Raider transports. With these stunning new doors your transports can proudly proclaim their allegiance. Personally, I think these are some of the best doors so far. Simon Egan’s skill improves every time he makes a new model and the sculpting on these doors is fantastic. It’s already been pointed out to me that these would work well for many other Marine Chapters including possibly the Gryphon types.

Crux Terminatus Land Raider Doors
Continuing with doors, We have a set of Land Raider doors which can be used by any Marine Chapter in the Imperium. Also by Simon Egan, these Land Raider doors depict the badge of honour for elite Space Marines, the Crux Terminatus. These doors are perfect for identifying your Terminators Land Raider or perhaps your command squad, proudly displaying their honour to their enemies

Forge World Show Attendance
Games Day LA is of course this weekend. Forge World will be there with a large stand so any one who’s going, pop over and take a look. The Chaos Dragon and Elysians will be on display so it’s a good chance to see them in the “resin”. Two weeks time sees us at both Games Day Paris in France and Salute 05 in London. We are still taking reservations for both of these events so if you’d like something in particular, send us an email or give us a call letting us know what you’d like and we’ll have the models put aside for you on the day.

Painted Heirophant
In our ongoing efforts to get painted pictures of all our models up on the website, we have just uploaded pictures of our painted Tyranid Heirophant Bio-Titan. This is a truly stunning paint job and the painter Fil Dunn has added the scenic base upon which it rests, giving it a true sense of scale.

The Space Marine Doors Are Available To Pre-Order Right Now!
The three new sets of Space Marine Doors will be released and shipped out from 3rd May. We always ship out pre-orders in the same order that we receive them. What does this mean? If you pre-order early, you are one of the first people to get them, and of course we do not charge your card until we are just about to ship your order to you. The Doors are available to pre-order right now over the phone and at our online store.

FREE! New 2005 Forge World Catalogue available now!

If you have not yet got hold of a new 2005 Forge World catalogue then just give us a quick call, or send us an email with your name and postal address and we’ll send one to you right away. Our catalogue has details and pictures of almost every single Forge World product, prices in Pounds Sterling, Euros and US Dollars and can be left lying around the house with big rings marked around what you really want so that other people take notice. (This actually works!)

Elysian Drop Sentinel

As we’ve pointed out on several occasions, Imperial Drop Troop regiments like the Elysians often lack the support of heavy armour and artillery and have to fit what they need into the cargo bay of Valkyries. Perhaps one of the biggest pieces of equipment you can fit into a Valkyrie is a Sentinel. No, we really mean it. Will Hayes made a set of folded legs just to prove to us that the Sentinel fits inside. This variant of the ubiquitous Sentinel incorporates a large Grav Chute system into the body so it can be deployed right at the start of the drop and utilise it’s mobility and firepower to help secure the landing zone. You can see the Grav Chutes at the front and the rear of the Sentinel’s body as well as the different cockpit and engine configuration that makes this variant stand out. The Drop Sentinel kit includes both a Heavy Bolter and the Multi-Melta shown, giving Elysian commanders the choice of deploying their Sentinels for an anti-tank or anti-personnel role.

Elysian Heavy Bolter Squad

I think this new Elysian Heavy Weapons Squad is really very nice. Something I like across the whole Elysian range of models is that the bigger weapons are quite obviously heavy. Something as large as a Heavy Bolter would weigh a fair bit, even allowing for plastic components, and there is no way a mere Imperial Guardsmen could move or fire one of these monster weapons without help. I also like that each weapons team is carrying a decent amount of ammunition as I can see Heavy Bolters being quite greedy and the shells aren’t that small either. Of course my favourite is the team using the drop canister they just got their weapon from as a firing platform. Mmm, big guns gooood!

Elysian Command HQ Squad

Now that we’ve shown you the muscle the Elysians can flex, we need to show you the brains as well. The Command HQ Squad is the senior Elysian officer leading the assault will direct the forces under his command both via the Vox-Operator attached to his squad and orders shouted to nearer sub-unit commanders. The Command HQ squad can also be a powerful fighting unit, with access to equipment and weapons denied to lesser squads. Our officer seems to be looking for a scrap as he is armed with a really nice new powerfist as well as his laspistol. The squad also enjoys the dubious benefit of having one Trooper armed with a Plasma gun, obviously a bit of a gambler, so the inclusion of a Medic in the squad looks to be a good idea.

Elysian Drop Zone Equipment

The first Elysians on the ground set up landing beacons to visually guide in the first wave of Drop Troops to the LZ. They also set up transponders for the second and subsequent waves of reinforcements to home in on from long range. When Elysian Drop Troops make a grav chute assault they do so carrying their personal weapons and equipment but still need a way of getting Heavy Bolters, Mortars and other heavy equipment etc down to the LZ. The Elysians do something really quite simple. They put everything into canisters, mount a heavy duty grav chute on one end and chuck them out the back of the Valkyries and jump out after them. The rest is just war.

Forge World & Games Day Atlanta

Simon Kirkham and I fly over to Atlanta on Thursday to get all set up for Games Day Atlanta which is being held this Saturday. This is our first visit to Atlanta and we are really looking forward to spending a few days there. Apart from working on the Forge World sales stand during Games Day we shall also be taking a good look at the Golden Demon painting competition. At each Games Day that Forge World attends, we choose what we consider to be the best entry from either the Warhammer Monster or Warhammer 40,000 Vehicle categories to receive the Forge World Best of Show Award. Right now we are putting the finishing touches to some new sets of display models to take with us. We should have pretty much a full selection of Elysian Drop Troop Squads on display, including the brand new ones we have shown you today. If you are coming to Games Day Atlanta then do come and take a look.

All These New Models Are Available To Pre-order Right Now!

All of the new Elysian models we have shown you today will be released and shipped out from Monday April 11th. We always ship out pre-orders in the same order that we receive them. What does this mean? If you pre-order early, you are one of the first people to get them, and of course we do not charge your card until we are just about to ship your order to you too. All of these new Elysians are available to pre-order right now over the phone and at our online store.

Forgeworld Newsletter #115

More Elysians and the return of the large Space Marine…

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

Welcome to the latest Forge World newsletter. In this issue we have some work-in-progress photos to show you, as well as the next couple of new releases for our very popular Elysian Drop Troops.

Ogre Rhinox Cavalry

Ogre Rhinox Cavalry spotted on the horizon!

When I was in Chicago last summer for Games Day, Phil Kelly first mentioned to me this mad idea the GW Studio had had of Ogres charging into battle on top of great big Rhinox. When I got back here I talked to the boss and he talked to a few people over in the GW Studio. Next thing you know is that this mad idea starts to look like not being quite that mad after all. The link below shows a couple of photos of our first unfinished Rhinox. The man putting all the hard work into sculpting this beast is Daniel Cockersell, who has made many Forge World monsters for 40K and Warhammer including the Bloodthirster and brand new Chaos Dragon. The other week Phil sent us over a draft of some rules to look at. Ohmigod! I know it was just a draft and I know they need to be play-tested, but Rhinox cavalry are going to be pretty damned hard! The plan at the moment is for Daniel to make a few different Rhinox and then he’ll, well, that would be telling, wouldn’t it? I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of this exciting project in another newsletter in the near future.

Elysian Tank Hunters

As Elysian Drop troops often operate without the benefit of support from heavy armour such as Leman Russ tanks, they have to depend heavily on their own Heavy Weapon and Support Squads. This version of the Support Squad has been set up to give enemy tanks a seriously hard time with its three Meltaguns. The gunners run to get into a firing position whilst being covered by the other lasgun equipped squad members. Dropping down to take aim, (and to try to make themselves smaller targets!), The Elysian gunners can then use the horrific short range power of their Meltaguns to blast enemy tanks, bunkers or even heavily armoured troops into smoking ruins. (Mmm, I think I LIKE Meltaguns.)

Elysian Equipment Pack

Next today we have a pack of Elysian equipment. The pack contains a whole pile of grenades and equipment pouches of varying sizes. A couple of Medipacks are in there too, as Veterans do seem keen on staying alive, some Demo Charges and ammo for a Heavy Bolter and Missile Launcher as well. You can use these bits to further personalise your models, perhaps even using them to make your own Veterans.

Giant 120mm Scale Imperial Space Marine

Here’s a real blast from the past. Our 120mm scale Imperial Space Marine was one of the very first models released by Forge World six years ago, and he has been out of production for over two years and so might be new to quite a lot of you. If you take a look at the instructions on the link below, you’ll see that the Space Marine comes in quite a number of parts and that the shape of the joints between the arms, legs body and head allow for a reasonable amount of posing. There are some nice little accessories in the kit too. The combat knife can be mounted as a bayonet or slid into the scabbard. There are two heads in the box, one standard Mk7 helmet and a bare head with great facial detail. That gorgeous detailed base is also part of the set with the loose skull and section of pillar too. Grenades, pouches and a bolt pistol all go to finish off this example of the Imperium’s finest. We’ve only managed to cast up a limited number of this big, big Marine and when these sell out, (and they will!), he won’t be back for a while because the moulds have gone pop again!

So, when are these new models released?

The Elysian Melta Squad and Equipment pack are available to pre-order for release from Monday the 4th of April onwards. The 120mm Space Marine is in stock and available to order right now. Remember, we’ve only got a few of this big guy so get one now or face possible disappointment.

Games Day Atlanta & Conflict! Edinburgh

Last call for these two events. If any of you are going to either Conflict! Edinburgh on the 13th or Games Day Atlanta on the 19th and want to be certain of getting what you want, Forge World is happy to reserve this for you. Either give one of our guys a call on the phone or drop us an email titled ‘Forge World Reservation’ to forgeworld@games-workshop.co.uk with your name, the event you want to collect your order at, and the list of what you want us to pack up especially for you. The only thing is, we need to have your reservation by the end of this Monday, the 7th, so we can get your order packed up and shipped over to Atlanta or onto the back of the van to Edinburgh.

Forgeworld Newsletter #114 more Elysian DropTroops…

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

Hi everyone. In today’s issue of the Forge World newsletter we have our third batch of new Elysian Drop Troop releases, some landmines and minefield markers for you to take a look at.

Before I dive into the new models, the Forge World Events page now has a few links to some of the shows and events Forge World will be at in some capacity over the next month or so. Each page will be kept right up to date with news of what you can expect to see at the Forge World stand at that show such as new releases and if one or more of our designers will be there too. Details of when and how to place a reservation order can be found on these pages too.

Time for a little firepower methinks. I personally really like missile launchers in 40K. I enjoy having the flexibility that you get from being able to switch from anti-tank to anti-personnel fire each turn. This new Elysian Drop Troop Heavy Weapons squad scores even more points with me by allowing the option of each Trooper carrying spare missile tubes. As with all the Elysian Drop Troop squads Forge World has made, these guys can be made in an almost limitless variety of poses thanks to the large choice of different parts that go to make up the set. If you don’t like the way we have stuck this squad together then just make yours another way!

If you prefer to get a little closer to your enemy then the next unit might be one to consider. This Elysian Special Weapons Squad is primarily armed with two flamers and a Trooper carrying a demo’ charge in case something juicy comes their way. The Elysian flamer is a big favourite of mine because it is just a couple of canisters of fuel connected to a flexible hose with a pipe to point at the target. I think it looks brutally simple and I love it!

Probably about five minutes after we showed the first Elysian Drop Troop squads people started asking if they could buy the Elysian lasguns separately. Well, as of today you will be able to order a large pack of weapons that does include some of those very popular lasguns. The pack includes 4 regular lasguns, 2 equipped with under-barrel grenade launchers, 2 laspistols and empty holsters, 2 grenade launchers, 2 melta-guns, 2 plasma guns and 2 of those beautiful sniper rifles. These weapons could be used for all manner of different things including changing the load-out of some of your Elysian squads, dioramas, kill-teams, the list could go on and on.

Finally! Something to mark out minefields in games of 40K so we don’t have to use spare dice or bits of paper!  And if you prefer to make your own markers we also have a pack of individual Imperial landmines too. In both of these packs there are anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, so I reckon pretty much everyone will want to avoid the area you booby-trap.

The Imperial Landmines, Minefield, both new Elysian squads and the Elysian weapons pack are all available to pre-order now over the phone and online at We will start shipping these pre-orders out from Monday the 4th of April.

A small new thing to finish off today’s newsletter. More often than not, when we show a new model in a newsletter the photos are of an unpainted or, at best, undercoated example. Forge World does get at least one of each of our new models painted up to use for taking to shows and in our ‘Imperial Armour’ range of books. We do put these painted pictures onto our website too but you might not notice as we do have quite a range these days! This is why we thought we might start putting a few links into our newsletters so you can see the great work our painters are doing and perhaps even give you some inspiration.

That’s it for this newsletter I’m afraid, but we’ll be back with another one very soon.
Thx,

Ewen Little.
Forge World.

Update: dead links removed

Downed Valkyrie

Forge World have announced a new piece of scenery, a downed Valkyrie flyer.

Downed Valkyrie

This large scenery piece would make a great objective to fight over in games of 40K, or perhaps even in a scenario where the surviviors of the crash-landing have to avoid capture and fight their way out of enemy held territory! (Yes, I get excited by new models. Did you not know that by now?) This Valkyrie has certainly taken quite a pounding, with the fuselage riddled with bullet holes and several huge holes in the remains of the port wing. The interior is still fully detailed but half-filled with dirt after the forced landing.

I really like the downed Valkyrie, though I would have thought the front of the craft would have been more damaged in the “crash”.

I also like the fact at £36 it is half the price of an undamaged flyer.
